  1. I'm in the class before you. Our 1st yard practical and midterm were in the 9th week. When is yours? What week is your signals test?

Our midterm and 1st yard practical are this Thursday and Friday respectively. Our signals test is in two weeks.

Saw a group of stripeys @240yd, wonder if anyone from here was just there

Yeah that was our group over at 240 today.

  2. Reason most likely they want to get you guys out to the yards asap.

Considering that we've been scheduled to hit the yard sometime in June, I think they're giving the signals sooner to weed people out earlier than later. That's just my personal take on it though.

Road final today via the Culver from CIYD to Court Square, in a R46.

    I PASSED MY ROAD PRACTICAL!!!

Holy shit, I'm officially a Train Operator.

Congrats dude, must be a great feeling.

  3. Wow you guys are that far along already, well good luck on your exams.

We've been in schoolcar for exactly 6 weeks now but with our class being the pilot class I'm hearing that we're getting our tests and practicals sooner than the previous classes. If that's the case then I actually prefer it that way. Get all my testing out the way upfront so that I can just focus on fine-tuning my operation.

  4. That's the truth, RTOman. I don't know what they teach in schoolcar these days, maybe some of the current classes can tell me. I do know that back in the day we were specifically warned not to work OT, especially while on probation. The specific wording was on the order of " you'd be a dumb a** to blow your job and pension" on a day you had no reason to be on the property. With the way I've heard Labor Relations works these days I'd stay as far away from the job as I could. Back then they weren't as cutthroat as they appear to be today as far as discipline is concerned so I doubt the risk is worth the short term monetary reward. Just my opinion. Carry on.

Schoolcar today pretty much tells us the same thing, get through your probation first before jumping on any OT.

  5. Actually no there wasn't any dont assume now! ;)  I had both of them as instructors awesome Guys Big Buffs at that.... If you like anything  higher number wise than a R36 Albanese will rattle off how bad everything else is. Taylor will always have this smile on his face when he teaches, your Class is lucky you got two of the best learn from them.. If you are in the A Div maybe a Side trip to 207 to see Albanese's "babies" if you are in the B Div You will definitely see them.

Three weeks in I can tell that my class is very fortunate to have these two as instructors. I've heard stories about other instructors and all I can say is that I'm more than glad we have who we have.

Tomorrow we'll be at CIYD so I'm sure Albanese will give us a peek at some of his babies.

  6. Hello everyone.

Someone (I don't remember who or when) posted in the past that they obtained a printout of their work history from the social security office. I plan to go this Monday to see if I can get mine but I was told by a friend that it can take months after the initial request to actually recieve the print out. Does anyone know if it is possible to get this printout immediately/asap/not now but right now?

I finally went in for my drug test last week so I need this printout because 180 Livingston requires that you provide work history going back to high school when you're called back for the medical. Within the first few years after I finished high school I had a few random jobs and I honestly do not remember all of them. I'm concerned that if I do not include every single job that I've had that this will ruin my chance to be hired or to keep my position if I'm hired. I was excited about finally getting my letter but now I'm a little worried about this work history requirement.

I'll appreciate any helpful info that anyone can give me...

The printout is immediate. Make sure you bring a blank check along with you to pay the SS office for the printout.

  7. Taylor is a legend, not that I ever met him. I saw one of his legendary drawings.

Albanese is great. I like his wit, and I always give it right back to him. It's hilarious listening to him bitch about the R150s. Did he tell you to count all the ballast in the yard yet?

He hasn't mentioned anything about ballast but he did tell me I'd have to hump the 3rd rail if I didn't answer his question correctly lol.

Needless to say, I didn't hump the 3rd rail.

  8. Tss Taylor has an incredible wealth of knowledge. He is a legend and an artist. You are in good hands.

You ain't lying when you say Taylor is a legend and an artist. He can't enter a building or yard without people praising him and his drawing skills on those dry erase boards are something else. I couldn't be anymore thankful to have a TSS like him who covers everything from top to bottom.

Oh yer gonna have  loads of fun,,,,

I'm sure there was some sarcasm in there somewhere but I don't think loads wouldn't be the right word for it, I'd say it's more like tons of fun.

  9. I got in to 4/29 class - please let me know what chapters in the blue rules & reg book should i be reading first

There's really no chapters that you should be reading first while you wait for your class to start. Start from the beginning and read through the entire book as much as you possibly can. The more knowledge you can retain the better off you will be.

The one chapter that is absolutely essential to your job though is of course the signals chapter. You literally want that chapter memorized from front to back.

    Good luck!

  10. 3476438229 - ask to speak with the liaison.. If shes not there, leave a msg and she should reply fairly quick..

Thanks man. I spoke with the liaison and she was able to clear up my situation. If I don't get called for the Jan class, I should be set for Feb.

Good luck on your final processing, I hope all goes smooth.

  11. when you go down for your full medical and pass everything you will sit down with an interviewer. Tell that person you don't want to be assigned a class until your background check is completed. You have that right. If you do, keep in mind it could take a while and you may miss more that one class. The down side is you will lose out on some seniority which is extremely important down here when it comes to job picks and vacation picks. The plus side is once the background is done and they call you to start, you can go in knowing you won't get pulled out and let go for something stupid you overlooked on your 21 page booklet.

Got it. It's nice to have this option, but I personally wouldn't want to delay my class start date. Thanks for the info.

  12. I took the drug test Dec. 12th but haven't received a call back yet! subwaydriver said in an earlier post that it could take up to 4 weeks and this past Wednesday was the 2nd week..

I took my DT on Dec 6th so this past Thurs was my 3rd week. They're probably waiting to gather a group of eligible candidates for the medical before giving the call.
