1. As Amtrak7 said, the route actually turns a slight profit. If anything, it would be advantageous for the MTA to integrate it with the BxM4.

This is why I want MTA Bus to take over BxM4C and rename it BxM5 (keep the BxM4 separate, that is long enough on its own) and run it to White Plains transit/shopping/parking/MNRR center. As long as Westchester gives the MTA its cut for the route, it would be a good deal.

  2. Yep and the other issue with the BxM4 is that it is mainly for Woodlawn, but Woodlawn is not very big, so I would examine if the loss of ridership is solely because of the economy or if there are other issues as well because there has been a huge drop in ridership. An extension would obviously make the route longer, more delay prone and more expensive so an analysis should be done to see if the extension would be worth it or could be re-routed without making it longer.

It doesn't make all stops on the Grand Concourse.... What part of eliminated stops doesn't make sense??

No, that's what I'm saying. It currently doesn't make all stops, and an alternative is to have it make more stops.

  3. bay ridge is not good enough as a transfer point. That is why the st george line in my version goes direct to coney island or cesars shopping center then sheepshead bay to kings plaza in another option if warranted. S83 is a LTD of S53 so yes it must go to bay ridge. The (R) is not good enough it sucks harder than a porn star blowjob.

But nobody would take such a route. Why are you replicating much faster subway service with a bus? There's a reason all SI buses end at 86 St: even with occasional waits, R to N > any damn bus to 59 St or anywhere else. Again, I could in theory use a 65 St bus that goes to SI, but you couldn't pay me to do so; the N will be faster 99 times out of 100.

  4. In the B2 extension B2 skips bay ridge. Technically it links to the (D) for faster coney island service. Ect. Nope culver a route like that from st george to bay ridge won't get that much as people already transfer to S79/53 so that is sort of redundant which is why I chose a line like that to be express yo CI or merged with B2 via ave p to belt or both but with different routes to St george. But leaning towards not bothering with brooklyn to st george unless it went to somewhere other than bay ridge as S79/53/93 serve that area very well.

    ???

The point isn't to specifically serve Bay Ridge for those routes. That's just a transfer point to Brooklyn buses and the (R). The reason the S83 will (when they eventually add it) still terminate there is to connect with Brooklyn buses and the (R). Any St. George route will terminate there, too, if the MTA ever gets that far.

  5. I have to say, the B2 extension and the Staten Island routes confuse me. If one wants a St. George to Bay Ridge route, there are routes between Narrows and St. George that can be used that already have buses on them. Extending buses to 59 St just doesn't make sense because you're trying to replace the "unreliable" R with buses that run on a highway or 4 Ave to 59 St; you *will* encounter traffic there. Easiest thing is [insert northeast SI shore route to follow] from St. George to SIE/Narrows/whatever and then run to Bay Ridge. Short, quick route, and then hope people actually use it.

  6. There's the union issues... Of course it would be nice to merge everything, not to mention take some of the burden off LGA and probably give them a renovation/expansion. For now its just wishful thinking.

I've yet to see a definite explanation of what the unions are doing to hold up a complete merger and why they are doing such things.

  7. Ohh wait i just peeped something...

if the express bus is at an MTA Bus depot...it would be BM etc, or QM etc, or BxM etc. and if its a NYC transit then X etc

I've said this before, but they really should complete the MTA Bus operations merger all the way and have MTA Bus and MTA Subway so that all bus operations are completely one agency. Then...ALL Brooklyn express routes use BM, ALL Queens use QM, ALL Bronx use BxM, ALL Staten Island use X. Why? Because SI has the vast majority of X routes while the other boroughs are mostly NYCDOT designations with some NYCT here and there. Simplify and make it conform.

  8. Who is exactly would this route be aimed at #1 and #2 what is up with these so called Bronx routes ending in Westchester???

People with no transit service in their neighborhood and the 5, 2/5, BxM10 and BxM11 a drive or long walk away. Like I said, this wasn't my most diligently-planned route. Just wondering if there's any potential.

Route doesn't have to end in Westchester. Just saw a good spot for a terminal. It can end the few blocks to the west where it would stay in the Bronx.

  9. You may as well run it up baychester to nereid & have it end over on mundy lane... there's no point in having express buses shoot across sandford; that area could use local bus service before express service... lol....

Anyway, a Laconia express route huh...

I think this would take some riders off the BxM11 specifically, but I'm not sure if it would draw enough riders on its own, otherwise....

This is where those RTS Express buses the MTA turned down would've been nice, eh?

  10. You miss the point the original grymes hill replacement route doesn't go to the (N) it is an extension of the B2 via ave P as a LTD and the belt parkway via bay parkway direct to SI. Folks would simply use the already frequent S76/74 or S78 ect then transfer to this brooklyn B2 on narrows road. They will also transfer to the S66 to 59th street instead of the S79 and S53 somewhat relieving transfer loads your simply shifting those pax to the S66 that's all. Now look closely at my other plans then connect them there is more to them than you think. ;) Hint: S57 can draw even more riders with the extension from more areas some brooklyn folks now have a 2 seat ride to 2 NJ destinations. But there is more than even that. 59th will be served by the new S66/67 and another route yet to be determined.

You might be able to tell where I'm from based on my name. I also travel to Staten Island a few days a week. I'll tell you right now you couldn't pay me to take an extended B2 to Staten Island from near the F train.

  11. Also: just looked at BxM4 service map, and that looks like the least "express" route in express route history. It makes all local stops in The Bronx down to 158 St, crosses a bridge and makes the usual express bus stops in Manhattan. It's a long-distance Limited route with 45-foot express coaches; and it runs along a subway line.

Sorry to revive this, but I had one express bus route I wondered up.

https://maps.google....039177,0.077162
BxM15 (or BxM12, if you want to keep it in-line with the others). First/last stop in the Bronx is Laconia/Astor. Just did this based on map. Seemed like the area had zero transit coverage.

Half of the route is parallel tithe BxM10 and BxM11

    *throws out the route file*

    What route? Ha.

But I do have to wonder: do people who use those routes really walk that long walk to reach them? Not really much room to park along the 10 and 11, too. The reason I thought of this was the sizable distance between Laconia and the 10 and 11 at many points.

  13. Extend it to North Broadway and then Is better. Although the stupid route operated peak only, it really doesn't help me at all.

    There it is.

    Also, I did this:

BxM15. Last/First stop in The Bronx at Astor and Laconia.

Why? Because why not. Also, I don't see a Bronx Bus ideas thread for some reason.

  14. Ugh the BxM4C is utterly inconvenient. Before they cut reverse peak service, it was more convenient. The first bus to White Plains leaves at 12:00 PM. If there only was at 10:30 AM bus to White Plains. I want to save some money in the morning. Looks like IM going to take MNRR instead. Also why doesn't it go to Trans Center. I need to go to a place near the Trans Center. Instead Im gonna Have to transfer to the 20 bus.

Ask Westchester County and NYCDOT to hand it over to MTA Bus and call it the BxM5.
