  1. Apparently I can't edit my own posts, so here's an update.

This version should be complete, and fixed some issues from before. There may still be other issues.

I've also made versions of this map with long term service patterns and weekend service patterns. I may post them later depending on how many other mistakes I find.

  2. I'm wondering what to do about 45/53 being served by the (N) on the NYC map I'm making as I assumed it was related to the Sea Beach closures. I checked the MTA website a little while ago and the July 2019 system map shows the (N) stopping at 45th and 53rd. Don't know if this is intentional or a mistake.

  3. Hi everyone. It's been like 4-5 years since I last visited this forum, and some ancient members may remember me from service disruption rerouting challenges and the like.

Way back then I was working on a map of the NYC Subway system in SVG, and it fell through due to self-imposed guidelines resulting in incredibly painful processes.

Now I'm finishing up a brand new map and I'm looking for some feedback - in particular, what errors are present.

The map I currently have shows weekday service only, and I haven't added Airtrain stations or backgrounds where station names cover other lines, etc.

In addition, Central Nassau might get its own map and I didn't have space to cram everything to Babylon on the map, so I've done some cutoffs at Nassau County.

All feedback is appreciated before I finalize the map and (maybe) create a version for Weekend service.

  4. Oh joy. Homeless people will now stink up 5 cars instead of just 1. I’m sure everyone here has experienced this once: a homeless person stinking up a car so much that it stays empty for the entire run.

At the very least, people will be able to move between cars.

  5. I really think they should use a large LCD display for the roll sign (in the position of the MTA logo) and replace the current roll sign with a destination indicator such as the ones found in nearly every other transit system.

That way, commuters will be able to tell which train it is, and terminal information will be available on the front as well.

It would also make it easier for the cars to be used on the SIR, if they do in fact go there, because SIR doesn't really have a use for the small NYC bullets.

  6. Or the other option would be to have the line go elevated after the portion already built (with a portal at the end of that) and go to an elevated station at 125/2nd and then over a bridge to get to The Bronx, where the line would remain elevated over the former 3rd Avenue El route.

Please let's not remove three lanes of a major New York City avenue right before two bridge approaches.

  7. What are the details of the law that forces potential rail-car makers to have plants in New York? Can certain parts be made elsewhere in the country? What are the legal and technical limits of the law, and are there any workarounds that would allow the MTA to use other railcar makers?

  8. Yes, I suppose you're more or less correct...  <_< That's why I said Wikipedia follows, not leads. When I myself used to edit there, both Union Tpke and I tend to make sure/discuss with the mods/admins of that site that every info should be up to/are up to date on that site.

...Except that I was referring to the MTA's website, not Wikipedia...

  9. honestly since there is a lot of redevelopment in the phase two are an elevated line might not be too bad as long is it done correctly. Meaning they do everything they can to reduce noise. If the MTA even gets lucky, they could have a station inside a building that built over second ave or something and the people building that build the building would pay for the station.

There's no place to build a portal without reducing 2 Av by like 3-4 lanes. That won't go so well. Additionally, this is East Harlem we're talking about. At the moment, I don't believe there are people who are willing to swallow a few hundred million dollars to integrate an elevated station into a building.

Anyways, the most logical cutback would be to make 116 the terminal and just not deal with the portion to 125th. It would save the tunnel boring portion of the project and the underpinning/station work for 125th.

  10. But The MTA knew the 62As would end up back on the (6) in 2008, why do you think the LEDs are green cirlcles and Red diamonds? (The (7) is purple not green)

Uh... because the standard LED sets contain Red, Orange, and Green? And besides, they're used to mark Express vs. Local service.
