  1. So I have instructor llevel i believe is his name lol. Real nice guy. But during training while your driving his a little bit of a drill sargent . Hes the nicest drill sargent i ever seen. But i learned a ton on day 1. We even did bus stops and that was supposed to be for day 3.

Everyone who says they have llevl says he's absolutely nuts and rushes everyone through turns lol

  2. Figured I'd let you guys know about my Supt's as well.

I had Quarless for the first 7 days, he's a great guy, and everything he taught me is exactly why I qualified. I hope to see him again one day to thank him in uniform.

For days 8-9 I had Supt. Searight and Fallon (don't know why we had 2, but I think Fallon was just observing)

Searight is a sweetheart, though she didn't teach much since I performed well on days 8 and 9...

Fallon however is brilliant. She can teach you exactly what to do from sitting all the way in the back of the bus. She's a seasoned veteran on this job and it shows. Nothing against Quarless but I wish I had Fallon for the first 7 days.

Looking forward to hear who gets who tomorrow.

Fallon was telling me she's going on vacation this week so I doubt anyone will be getting her.

  3. yes a good amount, I heard almost half of us are going to day 10.

Day 10, from what I've been told, goes as follows:

You wait in the lunch room at Zerega and one by one you'll go on the bus for your final qualification road test with 2 superintendents.

If you pass, then you'll finish up the article 19a paperwork, and start training on different buses, such as the new Nova, New Flyer, and RTS.

If you fail, you'll be taken upstairs to resign.

1 benefit to day 10 is it's right by zerega... no Manhattan to deal with!

  4. So if you're going into the 10 day training LISTEN UP!

Day 7 being the "qualifying day" is kinda BS. You MUST do good on day 6, to be able to qualify on day 7.

But here's the thing... Day 6 is a route in downtown Manhattan (pedestrians, bicycles, cab drivers, etc...) and day 7 is nearby the depot, unless your depot is in Manhattan, then it's probably in the Bronx or queens. Day 7 is a route in a quiet area, MUCH easier than day 6.

So in reality, Day 6 is the REAL qualifying day. If you can drive well in Manhattan on day 6 then you will breeze by day 7...

    Just an FYI.

I too qualified today, day 9....

Good luck to those starting next week.

  5.

Direct from the TWU 100 website:

OA: Tuskeegee Depot, Kingsbridge Depot, Manhattanville Depot, Michael J. Quill Depot, Mother Clara Hale Depot, West Farms Depot, Gunhill Depot, Zerega CMF (Central Maintenance Facility) [Source]

TA: East New York, Flatbush Depot, Fresh Pond, Grand Avenue, Jackie Gleason Depot, Ulmer Park Depot [Source]

Every depot in brooklyn manhattan and the bronx are twu 100. Queens and Staten Island are ATU

  6. I have a question for those who have their cdl class B permit and did the 7 or 9 day training I'm not exactly sure how long it is. Anyways after that if you had your cdl permit do you get your cdl class B license after that? Thanks in advance

You'll pay for your dmv road test while in training. You then give them the receipt and they'll schedule your road test near Zerega. But yes, you'll take the dmv road test after you qualify the 10- day training.

And just an FYI, it's a 10 day training program with chances to qualify on days 7, 9, or 10, depending on how well you do.

  7. Yes minor screw up on day 9 with turning but quickly corrected my mistakes. How's everything going with you? You'll feel rusty on Monday lol but it's to be expected

Honestly not bad... My group got a great Supt. so if we mess it up it's on us lol.

I think we have a chance at day 7 though. We'll see how much of a wake up call manhattan is.

  8. El Pillars....fun stuff lol!!! What was most difficult was the break over the weekend and somewhat re-learning lol. That's why I took lessons over the weekend. Day 5 and 6 determines if you would qualify on day 7. As long as you're perfect, chances are you will qualify on day 7. You will virtually go over everything you've already learned. Pulling into stops, pulling out, space between curbs (you have to be very close), remember to call out everything so that they know you are paying attention and you're very alert. Burying your face in those mirrors say 5-7 crucial!!! They want you looking around at all times. I'm sure you're doing great so far so just keep up the good driving and remember your inspections and brakes inside out and I think you'll be fine.

I passed my road test on Thursday . Depot yesterday I did virtually nothing. Pulling buses in, straightening them, did things around the depot. Monday I start line training. I hope I'm not extra because that would really suck lol. Not knowing your schedule and everyday it's a different time or may be covering someone who called out etc smh.

What have you been doing since you qualified then?

anyone screw up on day 9 (minor screw up) and still pass?

  10. Day 4

Today we went straight to the EL pillars, fun!

We did straight line backing, parking, and pre-trip inspections (exterior, interior, and air brakes)

As well as everything learned in days 1-3.

MTAondeck any tips for us going into day's 5-(hopefully)7

  11.          SO ive been watching some you tube videos of the training buses doing the acute turn  on 14 street in union sq ... can somebody share the different kinds of turns and there references points,  Acute turn is bumper to curb and start turning early or so im reading ,,etc etc.. just wanna be prepared with some knowledge before i get in that driver seat in 2 weeks haha

Left turns are generally shoulder to double yellow line, acute left's you obviously have to turn sooner, bumper to double yellow.

Right turns are generally pillar to curb and acute rights usually means you have to turn later and is ALL about the pivot points ( Which you'll learn about)

But these are only references, nothing is set in stone (except for the pivot points)... You may have to use your own judgement on certain turns. These references don't work 100% of the time.

    Day 3

First thing we did was the EL pillars in the simulator. First time I actually appreciated the simulator, it gives a really good understanding about your pivot points.

Next we learned how to operate the wheel chair lift, secure wheel chairs, and set up the farebox.

We also learned bus stops, near side, mid block, and far side. As well as everything else we learned in day 1 and 2.

  12. Day 2 we practiced more turns, including acute turns and S or "hook" turns. inclines and declines, and pretty much everything I mentioned in my day 1 post. We were also rated satisfactory or unsatisfactory in certain specific things.

We each got at least an hour and 15 min of driving time.

  13. on the interlock part.. is it done with the brake or the door handle?

also what depot are you training in ?

    MCH in Manhattan.

The interlock is done with both the door control and the brake. You must set the door control in either rear or front and rear, then depress the brake to engage the interlock.

  14. So day 1, for those of you who are interested, consisted of the Sup. explaining to us what he wants. Forward planning (12-15 seconds), 4' clearance, reference points, pivot points, calling out hazards, 3-5 mph turns, scanning mirrors every 3-5 seconds etc, the 3 S's (Safety, Service, Schedule), and basically to call out any potential hazard possible... If a squirrel runs across the street, point it out!

We learned how to turn on the bus, our PNI's (Park, Neutral, Interlock), Pre-trip inspection (including ALSAPS), right and left turns,

We each drove about 30-35 min each, performing at least 4 left turns and 4 right turns.

  15. No shit. I was in the row right before the last. Short guy with a blue shirt lol. Seriously tho short guy I was the one who asked the question about what's the passing rate on average for training and he said don't worry about that lol

And you were unsure about which depot in Queens you wanted, right?

  16. So Day 0 (Orientation) was pretty uneventful.

Filled out some paperwork, got our passes, had a 20 min break, an hour lunch, and then the class spent the rest of time asking questions about training (to which I already knew the answers to because of this forum)

Anyway, I was assigned to Sup. Quarless  at Mother Clara Hale (Harlem)

Invzo, where were you sitting? and who did you get assigned to?
