There is a lot of questions about money, days off, leaving other paying jobs, etc. on this forum..
In a nutshell...I am going through training myself...It is really tough. I was in an industry my whole life and this is all new to me. ( I am a bit older than you guys in their 30's) add about 10 years. It is about studying and following the rules. The feeling when you get the letter in the mail is only the beginning. They will tell you, it is all about what you put into it. I am not out of the woods by any stretch of the imagination. I still have signal tests to pass, etc.. yes, you start is Monday-Friday for the first few months. Then all bets are off. Money is good, and yes they pay during training, you WORK for it. When you get home from school car at night, it is not over for the day. I don't want to speak for everyone, I LIVE, SLEEP, EVERYTHING MTA at this point. IT IS A CAREER..Forget about previous jobs where you were the boss..You are stripped of all seniority and power...( remember when you started your first days of school..) I hope this helps a bit..Good luck..any questions, I will try to also answer..Good luck..J

Hello Guys/Gals,
I started school car last week Monday, and we finally finished up all the orientation and paperwork as of today. Of course, the orientation had me all pumped at times, and nervous as well. The thought of not making it through this, is kind of overwhelming at times. We met with a Superintendent, and Various Senior Director throughout the week, whom most of them gave some positive speeches.
Tomorrow will be our my first day breaking up into groups, I will be at PS 248 tomorrow for the "Right To know and Bio Hearing class", then the following days we will be visiting all the different yards. I'm in the "A" division, which is great, and my TSSI's are Albanese and James. I'm highly anxious to be feed a lot of information, of course expecting that I keep up. Everyone in my group (including myself) are worried about the signal test, but we will do our part by studying at home.
I will keep everyone updated, and ask questions from time to time. Pleased wish me well.
OK.Erik...We are in the SAME group...

Medical was fine. I'm cleared medically but I needed a couple of days off in August and September and they wouldn't have it. I'll need to come back in August or September to get sworn in when they hire for the next class. Btw, the next class is supposed to begin on Monday, September 28th. There doesn't look to be a TO class in August.
Thanks for the info. Glad you passed though.

Hey Everyone,
These last 2 days have been an absolute blur. On Tuesday, I received the call to come in for my medical and I had to report yesterday morning. It took ALL DAY LONG but at the end it all, I was sworn in and I made the July 27th class.
If I can pass down any bit of advice to anyone waiting for the call, it would be this: BE PATIENT! The call is coming. Bring a snack with you because you WILL BE THERE ALL DAY LONG and make sure that your in Good Health!
This was all worth the wait!
Thank you for this forum. I checked it everyday for any and all information that I needed and it was very helpful. 6 years was well worth the wait!
Same experience here...See you on the 27th
Thanks, Jk. In waiting room now.
Matt, What happened? Medical?

Medical hold, cleared in 1 day? Wow... You didn't waste no time going to your doctor. Did they give you a form you had to bring to your doc? If you don't mind me asking. What were you on medical hold for?
Kind of minor, a letter for a script. It all worked out. I passed the ear, eye, EKG all ok.
I'm going in tomorrow (Thursday). Just got the call.
BEST OF LUCK TODAY!!!!

I hear you. I won't ask any more on that topic. You never know who's reading this or who will be offended. Thanks for the heads up. I'll just focus on getting into school car and making it through probation for now.
Matt, is there a way to send your email to me without the world knowing?

congrats, JK. Roughly where in the list are you?

Congratulations!!! I'm so happy for you. It's a beautiful thing to be sworn in. I remember that feeling. A few days ago, I turned down TO position since I took the same exam before I became employed as a Track Worker. Unfortunately, because it was Open Competitive and not Promotional that if I decided that I wanted to return to Track then it would be at Superintendent and Assistant Chief Track Officer discretion. I didn't want to take that risk so I'll just take the Promotional Exam when it comes out at end of the year.
Congratulations JK!!! Welcome to NYC Transit. You're apart of the family now.
Thanks so much...Hopefully all goes well Tuesday !!

I'm officially in! I was sworn in today, and start on the 27th.
For those of you who went in for the pre-interview, and are waiting on the call, you will get one, don't worry. You ust have to wait out the 2-90 days like the rest of us.
There were people there today, who were there for the TO pre-interview as well. The call is coming!
I just got a call. I report on Tuesday AM...Yippie !!

Train Operator Exam # 8098
in Transit Employment
Posted
I SECOND EVERYTHING !!!!! A lot of people have relatives that have been in Transit for YEARS and YEARS...New Transit is not like the old...We are drilled day in day out..If you mess up, FESS UP..Eyes and ears everywhere..Trains for the most part, can talk. They do not like people that 'LIE' down in the MTA..Your life there will be short lived. Study..Rest, and then when you feel like you have studied enough..Study more...GOOD LUCK ALL !! It is a new way of life..
