  1. Hey guys thanks for all the info and updates! Congrats to everyone called in already and good luck to all those still waiting like myself I'm knew on here and the info you guys have been providing is extremely informative and helpful!

My number is in the 850-950 range, I just got put on an outstanding certification, what's next for me? Also I have a low class (violent) felony stemming from 2009. I read here that if the conviction is over 10yrs+ you should be fine, since mine is just hitting the 7yr mark should I be ok or just give up hope?! Any feed back would be helpful and thanks in advance!!

Well there is no such thing as a low class Felony, an A1 to an E can have the same effect regardless. Personally I wouldn't give up, have your disposition, and whatever other paperwork in order. I left a link a page or 2 back about the CHRS report which the city and state agencies use to look up your criminal history, $65 bucks and you'll get the same report they do. The only thing that hurts people the most with criminal records is the recurrences of convictions.  You can have a felony from 15 years ago, but if you have 5 or so B misdemeanors on separate dates, that alone can hurt you regardless of time. There was a person in the one of the bus operator threads, that had a 20 yr old Felony, but over 5-10  misdemeanors in various states, needless to say that person didn't have luck in their favor as far as qualifying for the job.

To make my point about not worrying, the MTA hired a former cop who was convicted of multiple bank robberies in the 90's, and he got on even with almost a decade in prison. Mind you it was his only conviction. Robbery 1 is a B violent Felony, and 99% of the time you'd be pretty much f**ked with that kind of conviction in most places of employment. Just do not lie about anything, because they will find out. As far as your list number I'd say you're in a good place, but unless things really speed up you're going to have a little wait on your hands. They haven't even hit the 500 mark yet for medical processing, I think in the high 600's for drug testing. But be prepared even when you get the letter for the drug test, you might have to take 2 since the results are only good for 90 days. I took my second a few weeks ago, and I'm just right around the corner for an e-mail for medical and final processing. Also here's the link of the MTA bus driver/former cop who was robbing banks below. Good Luck.

  2. Does anybody know how this process works when i go..it says final processnig, so granted everything goes well when im down there, do i get an official start date that day?

From what I've read from people already in is you go for the medical exam, as long as you pass that then someone goes over your paperwork, they fingerprint you, then take your ID photo, and swear you in. As far as medical, EKG, Glucose, Blood Pressure, Vision, Hearing, Spirometer ( lung capacity test ) I think some reflex/agility tests, I also believe you fill out a big questionnaire of your medical history. But if you should get placed on a medical hold for anything, you'll have to get cleared by your regular doctor before you can continue with the rest of the final processing.

  3. My list # is 445-455 range, there is a upcoming class after the February class, this should be in march so the list is moving fast

Cool man thanks, nah you're right on schedule, if anything depending on the size of the class I'll most likely be called down for

medical processing for the March one. Last number appointed in Oct was 415, folks fail the drug test, turn it down etc. Anyway good luck.

Obiecoccoa, you recieved your email on thursday (yesterday)?  Im between 460-470, hoping to get one asap, looks like im close enough..hopefully today. Fingers crossed...

Steve keep me posted as well.

You'll be getting on before me I'm closer to 490, keep me posted. I know they call down smaller groups of people for medical since the process is longer, plus you have other titles there, so there might be only 10 or so there going tor track, same for bus operator, or any other title. When I was there Jan 21st for drug test number 2, there was only like 15 or 20 ppl there for medical in total, most likely spread out across various titles. You should be getting one next week at the latest.

EDIT: Nvm ninja'd, good luck man.

  4. Also if anyone reading this is concerned on what will show up as criminal history. The link I have posted below is the best resource. A CHRS report from NY state costs $65.00, but this is the search that most city and state agencies use to look up your history, besides federal. They do not use intellius, pipl, mylife, or beenverifed.com etc.

This is the link for the online access request for a CHRS report. You should see the FAQ as well.

    http://www.nycourts.gov/APPS/chrs/onlinedirectaccess.shtml

  5. Problems with driving or criminal records do not necessarily disqualify an applicant, it depends on many factors like how long ago, how serious etc..  This is decided on a case by case basis at the time you are called for employment. quoted from a recent email from HR dept..

Exactly this. With criminal factor it's usually the time length from conviction, and the seriousness, also how many convictions you have. If you're a registered sex offender, or convicted of killing someone chances are you'll be DQ'd regardless. As far as felonies and misdemeanors there is a time statute with most jobs. Misdemeanors are 3-5 years, 3 being a Class B, 5 being a Class A since it's a borderline Felony. Felonies it's 7+ years, 10+ years from the time of conviction is even better. Violations don't even show up on your record anymore, whether it's a Federal or CHRS state lookup. The MTA hired a former cop who was robbing banks during his off hours, guy did almost 10 years in prison and now drives a bus. I personally know 3 people who have Felony convictions that work for the MTA in different divisions. All were either drug possession or sale related. Even if you look in the Conductor and Train Operator threads, there were a few folks with felonies that were hired, and are still working.  Bottom line is don't worry, just be honest and have your paperwork in order.

EDIT: Also to everyone who reads this, you do not have to list every arrest you ever had, especially if it did not lead to a conviction. That only applies if you are seeking employment in the Law Enforcement field.

  6. Yea man likewise, just post here when you get contacted so others have a general idea of when theirs is coming. There's a few guys here in the number ranges from 430-500+ who are pretty active.

EDIT: Cool so that makes you the second person confirming the Feb 22nd class.

  7. Has anyone been emailed or called for medicals this year? i did my drug test last week Tuesday, still no word.

Nope, I took mine Jan 21st, I'm in the 485-495 list number range. Apparently there are 2 upcoming classes, one February 22nd, and the other March 28th. Now the last list number appointed into the October class was 415, I think class size is anywhere from 30-50 people. If you are in the 420-500 range I would say you have a good shot at making the February class. Reason I gave the 80 candidate margin is you have to factor in the amount of people who failed the drug test, people who've turned it down, and people who've might have gotten their pre-employment notice lost in the mail etc. Also you have to factor in the amount of people, who could have been placed on a medical hold that didn't make the October class. They will get first priority and rightfully so. Other than that be patient, but I would say expect a call, or email sometime this week, or next if you should happen to be in the pool called for the February class. If not add a few extra weeks to that for the March class.

  8. This has me thinking, I'm wondering if they are going to contact me with my current e-mail address, the one I gave them on the sheet I filled out, or the one I originally used to file for the test back in 2012. The e-mail account I had back in 2012 is closed and not recoverable, I'm going to call them Monday and find out. Thanks for this Marcel, reason it has me thinking is the option I saw for the e-mail address change or update.

  9. So checked my mail today and got the letter, however they sent it to my old address ( I updated it via fax and email with them to my new address and yet they sent it to the old one. Was supposed to have been there on the 21st and just now getting it and it shows it was mailed out on the 15th.

Is my best bet calling  to see if I can come in maybe Friday and do my paperwork .. I have the booklet here from the last time I was down there filled out and all. WHo do i call .. what number ?

    Pissed off right now ..SMDH

Call this number 1-347-643-8198, it's a direct number to the HR front desk. Call the number really early before 9, I would say 8am would be best, after 8:30-9am then it starts getting busy down there. Or if you don't get through early, try around 4pm when it slows down. Other than that if it's for your second drug test you should be fine, just explain to them the mail situation you were having.

Also fill out that pre-employment packet you got with the letter, the one you filled out in September is only good for 90 days, same as the drug test. I wound up having to fill it out once I was there, but I got finished with it before they called my number up.

  10. steve...any idea when we should get emails for medical?  Did they tell you because the didnt for me..just said, wait for it.  Also, any idea of what the medical consists of?

Well according to someone who posted here there is a class Feb 22 and March 28. Even though both dates are on a Monday, I'm not completely sold on that until I hear a few others confirm it. But if it is true, I would say anytime between now and 4-6 weeks max. If it's the February class expect it within the next week or 2 tops, but if it's the March class add a few weeks to that. Transit gets the drug test results 72 hours after you provide the specimen. That's why you always hear the 3 days minimum for a call back, in our case e-mail back.

As far as the medical exam, from what I understand, it's a hearing, eye, EKG, blood pressure, check the glucose levels in your urine, some reflex tests, agility ( stretching, touching toes etc ) and from I've read they ask you a boatload of questions of your medical history. Big thing is the blood pressure, and the EKG. Just avoid the salty foods for a while, and don't drink a liter of soda before the glucose test. But we'll find out completely when we are there.

EDIT: Going back to what I mentioned in the first paragraph, you also have to factor the number of people who were placed on a medical hold that did not make the October classes. They will get first priority over everyone, as long as they got their issues resolved. The amount of people placed on a medical hold could be anyone's guess.

  11. Who is the best person to contact at 180 livingston regarding Track worker..I have tried updating my contact info numberous times with the change form and they still have my old address according to Ms chestnut..

I am also on other exam but Ms chestnut only seems to deal with Bus operator info..

Mrs Robinson deals with the Trackworkers. Your best bet would be to go there instead of talking to them on the phone. But if you insist on calling I think this is her number 1-347-643-8198. It's a direct number, so you won't be dealing with any menu options.

  12. Was down there today, got the huge packet to fill out and took my piss test...next step is email for medical...list between 460-470, hoping to be in the first group.

Glad to see you got straightened out. I was wondering what happened to you from our last conversation a few weeks back. Same with me, expect the e-mail for medical. Have fun filling out that 21 page packet, I'm glad I finished mine in October.

  13. Just following up on this thread ... My drug test expired in December and I know I have to go back down and redo it again.

Question is how will they reach out to us?

By phone call or will it be by letter again ?

Also has anyone from that September 28th drug test class gotten called back down to re-do the test yet ?

    Thanks in advance

I was down there Sept 28th. My list number is in the 485-495 range. I was talking to a guy down there his number was in the single digit 500's. I received my letter 2 days ago, it was postmarked the 15th. You should be getting something in the mail soon enough, especially with Dunnlick mentioning 239 vacancies. Make sure when you get the packet you fill it out again, I actually called Livingston to verify a few days ago, was told I didn't need to, but when I got there I had to fill it out again. Apparently the drug test, and the pre-employment paperwork are only good for 90 days. I saw a few familiar faces but not many. But as I said keep an eye out for the mail. I'd say within a week tops if you're under 550 you should be getting mail from Transit.

One thing I did notice was after I finished my drug test, went to the front desk, instead of telling me to expect a call for medical and final processing, they told me to expect an email within 3-90 days this time around. Guess they changed up the system a bit.

  14. Congrats you are gonna most likely go down for a drug test then expect a call within the next week or two following that, the call is when you go for final processing. You don't need to fill out the entire packet but they should have sent you the same form you filled out the first time you went in a few pages long asks about work history and a few others that must be filled out again I repeat not the big packet. I didn't fill out the smaller one they sent because I had already filled it out but when I got there they made me fill it out again so do it now. Also the lowest seniority number is 1761 so they need another 239 hires to make the federal mandated amount of 2000 track workers good luck stay clean.

Usually 25-30 per class but they can have back to back classes

Yea I got down there early, was home by 11:30am. I wound up filling it out again, the part of the pre-employment packet which entailed 10 years of work history, addresses, and school. Funny thing was I called transit the other day to clarify, and she said I didn't have to fill it out again. That same lady was the one who handed me the papers to fill out again this morning, I recognized her voice right away. Luckily I had my completed 21 page packet with me so I could go through the 10 years of work history. I've been in the union 14 years, worked in quite a few shops, so I wouldn't have remembered it all off the top of my head. That's a good sign then with 239 spots open.

  15. any idea of the size of class or when this would possibly start?

As far as starting possibly soon, DCAS certification only went into effect as of Sunday. I wasn't expecting this letter for a few weeks. As far as the class size depends on the needs of Transit. We'll find out when we're down there.

  16. Even better news, just received a letter to go down to Livingston for my second drug test on Thursday the 21st. Looks like it's happening sooner than later. List number in the 485-495 range.

EDIT: Also, do I have to fill out this pre-employment packet for a second time? I've been seeing some conflicting information. Some say you do, some say you don't. I've been trying to get through to Livingston, I guess I'll keep trying.

  17. Yea my 90 days expired 12/28, as with most of us it'll be round 2. But certification just started today. Doing a little research in the thread the certification for the last 2 classes began in July. But letters weren't received until the end of August beginning of September. But hopefully the letter will come sooner. At least the wheels are turning, if I gotta wait a bit more so be it. Anyway Thanks for that Dunnlick.

  18. I also got my letter, this will be the second piss test i took for this position. Although ill probably be taking my name off this list for now since im already in the TA system as a provisional worker. Good luck to all. Ps. My list # in 32x range

Thanks for the tip man, but it looks like letters from what this person mentioned. But I'll be expecting either or in any case.
