depends on what section youre in and who you know. my gang likes to work OT so got on some jobs that way. now the Level 2 in my section texts me whenever he or someone else has some OT. pretty much every other weekend

Awesome. I imagine that they get millions of applicants for track. That's probably why they don't post for it very often. I think i applied for it a few years ago, but they never called me for it. I applied for engineer in April, and they hit me up 7 months later. Are you in the hiring process for track? Sorry, I have not read the entire thread.
I was hired 2 months ago

Ok. Thanks for the reply. I'm already in the process for Loco Engineer. I was asking for a friend of mine who wants to get on track. I'm always checking the boards, doesn't look like they hire for that much.
there's actually alot of New track workers being hired

People I'm in the current class for track worker. They are not done hiring, they are hiring around 50 at a time, there's another class apparently at the end of December. And they gonna keep hiring 50 ish at a time for future classes. The list should move fairly quickly.
With thst said it seems like some classes are exclusively for cleaning gang. And others are mixed . For example last class, apparently it was a class that was going to cleaning gang mostly . With my current class only a little less than half of all the picks were only cleaning picks. Most was maintenance picks.
I'm in the class before yours. we're all doing maintenance. the 2 classes before us went straight to cleaning

Wow!!! Is there a list of approved footwear ? How often are you issued a new pair ?
pretty sure we are entitled to a new pair every year or 2. not too sure about that tho. idk where to find a list of approved boots, but I'd imagine any boot you buy needs to have a steel toe, and electricity resistant. etc

Are the issued footwear mandatory or can you purchase your own ?
you can get your own boots but they have to abide by mta regulation and you need to take them to get approved.

Do you know how long you'll be there?
Usually they have the new guys replacing ties in the yard and have you use a slotter, chainsaw and some other gas tools.
Instead i saw everyone by the front of the yard by the track where trains are loaded and unloaded.
today was only second day at the yard. we got an intro to power tools and a tour of the yard. we also got an intro to crane operating. were supposed to be doing OJT for 3 weeks.

I'm in November 27th class just got done doing photo ID pass.
Goodluck everyone
Questions:
I'm sure in orientation they are going to go over the 401K /457 and stuff.
Is it wise to have 401K + the pension? Or should I do 457 +pension? Never dealt eith any of this with my prior employers.
they go over both and you choose whatever YOU feel is best for you

Are we allowed to bring a backpack to orientation/training? I don’t want to take a chance and drive there to find no parking so I’m taking the train and I really don’t want to be carrying stuff in my hand.
I'm driving in from queens. gonna park in Williamsburg and take the G train to Livingston

Remember ladies and gents. The MTA pays you for an minimum 40 hour work week. So your orientation, training, posting, you will be there for no less than 8 hours per work day.
