So I guess I had a similar path. However I had completed both conductor school car and then 4 months in was called for TO then completed that. After 6 months in as TO I decided to resign and take another job. With some good advice from my TSSs I ensured to follow the steps to have my name placed back on the list through DCAS. I just kept emailing and calling until I got someone to reply. I kept in touch with at the time Ms. Vargas and then Ms. Olha. Then several months later saw my name was back on the certification list and I’m now back as a TO.

I wouldn’t necessarily call them incompetent but they do deal with thousands and thousands of emails for all different exams. It’s on you to stay on top of them continue the steps to contact them until they get back to you with a solution. Whether if you like it or not it is what it is.

Some advice if you still want back in, continue with the steps to contact them and get this fixed because with the list extended again, if you can get back on the list and recertified you’ll be called for the following class.

    Good Luck!

I emailed them 20 times only to be ignored until they finally responded to me initial email. I called every morning and was not able to get through. Someone finally answered but told me only the email who never responded could put me back on the list. Its incompetence. A system where you have to email over 30 times in all to get a response months later is incompetence.

  2. I've giving up trying to get back on the list. Numerous calls and emails sent to DCAS and MTA since Feb. DCAS told me in March I cant get back on the list due to an impending appointment. I was hired in Oct 22 and resigned nov 22 and I was passing everything at that time so I didn't have an impending appointment in Feb. I replied to that email several times and called to no response. Emailed and called MTA sever times no response. In July 6 I received an email from DCAS saying sorry for the late reply and telling me it takes months to process the form to get back on the list and I would received an email soon. Incompetence all around.

Fired on Feb 3. Told I would be rehired. Put my paperwork in to be restored to the list on Feb. 5. Still not back on the list. DCAS keeps telling me 2 weeks whenever I call them. Ridiculous

At least you got through.  I've been calling and emailing since Jan. No one answers phone.  No one replies to email.  Its a joke.

Are we have to go Brooklyn 2125 w 13th st everyday for training or only for the first day?
I just checked it takes 2 hrs to take a train there. Its deep brooklyn (coney island).
I,m about to take car there park near by and first day of the class.

The first week you are there then it depends on which division you end up in

Word coming down is the October 31st class will be the last for the year. They'll hire the remaining 175 or so T/O's needed next year.

I overheard my TSS talking and they said they will be hiring throughout next year and will most likely exhaust the list with how many TOs they need now and will need coming up.

Oh man congratulations! And good luck!

I'm running out of hope. I'm around #521x I just recently got laid off too. No email or phone call for my medical as of yet. As for queens, I'd love to be stationed there 😭

It's extended to Sept 23 and they are still very short.

I had the same schedule as you and I'm still in school car.  Honestly man, I gave up studying when I got home except for the weekends.  What I did was study on the train.  I had a 2hr commute going to the Bronx and 2hr coming back home so I had 4 hours of solid studying time.  I'd put on my headphones and play some white noise to block out the sounds and just lock in on my signal flash cards and rewrite them 10 time each in my notebook.

I can study on the way for a bit.  Once I switch trains I'm standing. How far are you in school car? You were able to keep up studying that way?

Whatever your situation that is preventing you from sleeping enough & studying - I hope you can find a way to alleviate it.
You need to sleep to rest your body and mind, especially when it comes to retaining information.
I’m not going to lie to you or sugarcoat anything; it’s a very real possibility that this job isn’t for you, but I think you should stick it out in schoolcar and see if things click in place eventually. You gotta do your part, don’t be afraid to reach out to your TSS if you’re not understanding something. My TSS’ during schoolcar did overtime hours simply to help out 2 - 3 people in my class.
I guarantee you that if you pass and get out on the road, you’ll realize that the job is not hard at all.

There is only so many hours in the day.  Class starts at 7 so I wake at 4 to leave by 5. Class ends at 3. I'm home by 530 shower and make food which takes about 2 hours until 730. One hour and a half for hw until 830. I study for the next 3 hours until bed at 12. I understand what the TSS are saying remembering everything is the problem.

Its a moot point now. I have to be out for a week next month to take care of a family member who's getting a medical procedure so I have to resign. Would I be eligible to put my name back on the list?

Haven’t seen anyone saying they been getting called in for pre employment. Is the list closed or is there a slow down on new hires?

Someone here posted its open until Sept 2023 but on the schoolcar thread someone posted its open until Feb 2024

Are you studying after you get home? If not, I suggest you make time to do that.

You’re not expected to know everything immediately, but you need to learn how to filter the information you’re taking in and focus on the important bits.

Also, keep in mind this is only the second week of training, you’re trying to rewire your mind to process transit shit, it’s going to be overwhelming. Keep on top of studying, read your signals and notes daily, you’ll be alright.

I study 2-3 hours a day So far very little is sticking. Im exhausted. Getting 3-4 hrs of sleep isnt helping but its the only way I can have time to study.

  15. Starting to rethink this whole TO thing.  It's the second week of training and this week has been a disaster. We routinely got on trains late bc there other classes were in the trains or they were in service.  The TSS routinely tells us how we are short of time.  They tell us about all the mistakes the new classes are making such is not surprising consider how much they want us to know.  I've been studying daily and even then I can't keep up. Everything is rushed in terms of teaching.  They will tell us we have to learn something and then next day want us to know it backwards and forewards.

trust me ur gonna pass the signals exams. just know ur stuff. at least get it 90% to that definition.  at least know what it means in YOUR words.....then figure out how to get it into their words

last Sigs exam is all written.  the Final Exam is a different exam the same day - all multiple choice and yes u need to pass that too or u won't graduate.  just study all the tests/quizzes you ever had - those are great review materials for the Final Exam

We were told we wouldn't get the quizzes back but we would go over them.  Then again we had the benefits and rules quiz which we never went over after.

so i guess your name gets put back on the List.  but you retain your LIST #.   much like if you quit the training program and decide to come back, you kept your list #.  as someone on this forum said he did.

but imagine taking that damn test for the 3rd time?  :(

I haven't taking it the first time yet.  I imagine the 3rd time is just like the 2nd? All written no mc?

  18. 19 minutes ago, trackerjack said:

failed once.....shameful.......failed twice on the re-take?  yes.....you deserve to get fired.  but Transit is so desperate they dont' fire you anymore.  even if you derail (as i've heard from the Rumor Mill) :)

Lol so what they let you take it a 3rd time with future classes? Talk about desperate

I’m hearing that too, I’m going ask some of Schoolcar TSS

but I’m understanding that they not calling huge amount of people anyone

    that they slow down

they also have the people that got fired that had failed practical, signal, or exam trying to come back

in my induction there was  whole class that had failed the first signal test 15 multi and 10 fill in even the retake

I thought If you fail signal that's it they fire you?

Man I’m loving the feeling of everything so far right now but lawd they are throwing books and packets at us left to right. I’m not even sure what to really study and what is most important to be able to pass these midterms practicals and finals. If anyone have suggestions on what to actually study so I won’t overwhelm myself that would really help. Cause I’m pretty sure we can’t store all this information in at once. So I need to know the main/important stuff to actually go over when I get home. Thanks I’m advance

What division did you end up picking? One of the guys near me is returning from leave and he was telling some of us that by the time we take the signals test we would have heard the signals they are focusing on over and over again.
