  1. CT,

how long did your back check take?  Been in contact with Fed and they've been back and forth with us a few times on things not matching in paperwork but back check is all completed consider/clear so any timeframe would be appreciated.  also how are you dressing for medical my brother in mnrr said dress bus casual but I've seen some say dress comfortably due to the PAT.  TIA.

    Hey Dre,

Man it took quite a while. There were some issues with paperwork not matching up for me as well. it took a month for things to get cleared up but it finally did so just hang in there. For medical I just wore a t-shirt, sneakers and a pair of jeans; nothing too serious. Hope this helps

  2. Hey man,

Dunno what the next step is, she said sometime last or this week they would be contacting and she said that she would be sending the sterling link for back check and sending conditional offer letters. I'm thinking physical would be next after back check is done? Like I said I've only made it to the entrance exam previously so I don't know what the hiring steps are, just going with the flow and waiting on them to contact.

Yeah those are the next steps. They call to extend a conditional offer. I know you are as excited as I am at this point Dre! I am currently going through them now. waiting for my background to finish up hopefully it wont be much longer

  3. I'm doing my best! What was your study procedure like?

I put everything onto flash cards ( all signals and definitions) and focused on 5 definitions and 10 signals a day. at the end of each week Id have my wife do a cumulative test on all of the information that Id been studying until I knew all of the definitions and signals. After that I just practiced them all everyday . Its very tedious  and a bit stressful but It does pay off. I studied at least 4 hours each day.

  4. hey all! its been a while since I posted last; Ive been trying to focus on studying for the S&D overview .congrats to everyone who passed the S&D today i believe there was only about 19 of us! So happy to have made it past this exam I can finally breathe a little easier! now just waiting to hear word on next steps aka medical, drug testing and possible offer!! Im so excited! Gentlemen study study study thats all I can say! It will pay off in the end

Thank you for contacting the Long Island Rail Road. This message will serve as acknowledgement of an email received by you. It is an auto-reply and should be retained for future reference.

yeah thats the exact same message i got. Thanks for putting this up I was trying to find a way to add a screenshot here to prove to everyone thats what I received.

    CT,

did you get an auto reply email back?  I sent mine in gmail, aol mail twice and from my email client as well and no auto reply on either method.  however I did not get any bounced email notifications either which would indicate email went through.

ok auto reply received via gmail.  would appear it's hit or miss depending on email provider.

  6. Hey CT,

Apparently so, my buddy tells me that they have been quite dissatisfied with the caliber of personnel that have been hired in recent years, and as such they are making the process more difficult, even possibly going as far as re-instituting nepotism, although I don't know how true that is, you know how the rumour mill goes.  but, given the time that they do, a month plus between S&D and the entrance exam is more than enough to learn everything you need to.

    Dre,

I couldn't agree more about the timeframe; 5 weeks is more than enough time to learn all the necessary information and especially if this is something you truly want and need! Nothing will stop me from having all of this information down in the required timeframe! so happy to hear that you got the email you've been waiting on. Hopefully we all make it to the finish line fellas!

  7. Congrats Fed & Dre! Great news. Keep your fingers crossed me IronHorse & myself. Lol

Can you confirm something for me? As I'm already studying. I was just told that "flagman", "effective securing device" and "effective locking device" were all deleted from definitions and there's no need to know them. Of course I got them down already lol. But can u confirm if they're in there?

    Thanks!

    Hey Cappi,

They are still in the book that I received on the 28th. There are a total of 75 definitions in the book .

    Cappi,

iirc, at the s&d overview I went to back in '13 they give you certain definitions and signals you need to know for the entrance exam.  they didn't say if those were deleted or not, just that you didn't need to know them for the exam.  Iron horse, went to february open house 2/23.  did you get your invite finally IH?  Good luck to you all once again!

Im guessing things have changed since 2013 because we were told to learn all 75 definitions and i believe 129 signals and indications. There wasn't a particular group of definitions or signals we were given to study.

  8. Good Morning all!

I hope you guys are well. I was wondering if any of you guys that have been waiting for that email receive anything as of late? I went to the S&D overview yesterday and apparently it looks like they are looking to have 6 classes this year! 2 already underway and 4 more they are looking to fill ! So hopefully there are a few more S&D overviews coming up. Just wanted to give you all that piece of information as I know that this process can be a bit intense especially when playing the waiting game . Let me get back to making these flashcards. I wish you all well throughout this process and to the vets; hopefully I can work side by side with some of you one day!

  9. Hey CT do you know if they're sending batch emails or little by little?  I know when I got called back in '13 it was a week later I heard about S&D now going on 3 weeks and nothing.  My brother tells me it's all lottery but if you made it out of the initial open house shouldn't they call you for the upcoming classes?  you would think.  I don't know, maybe I'm just overthinking it and apprehensive but the way they make you jump through all the hoops and the whole now hurry up and wait mentality there it's all nerve wracking.

I have no idea; sorry. I was starting to get nervous myself because I didnt know it would take so long to receive feedback and then I read an earlier post that didnt say anything about the 3/28 S&D overview so I thought they may have already chosen people for the class. Keep looking out for the email i guess man; check spam , etc. I wish you luck with everything. I'm not sure that its a lottery situation though; otherwise anyone could get the gig if you passed the exams at the open house. Maybe they are basing it off of the interview portion and the scores from the tests.

  10. Alright, so it took a lil bit to send your email. Good stuff. I hope they send me one as well. I've been looking forward to this too. So they had 3 open houses in a month. They're definitely trying to get a decent pool of applicants. Only the best or luckiest will survive this rat race. Haha. Good luck with the storm tomorrow!

Yeah it took them nearly 3 weeks to send me anything. Hopefully this means they've satisfied the number of potential employees and will start rolling out more emails sooner than later! I'm honored to even have made it to this point and ill make sure that nothing stops me from making it into one of those new hire classes come August and September! I hope you hear something soon man! Do update us when you hear back and I wish you well with the storm tomorrow as well! Im extremely prepared lol

  11. Thats great CT! Congrats. When did you attend open house? Was it March 8th? I haven't received anything yet but thats the day i went.

Thanks so much IronHorse! I'm super excited about it all. I've been waiting for a chance with this organization for many years and finally its here! I attended open house 2/23 and i've been pretty much holding my breath for this moment lol. hopefully you hear something soon. It was nice to see that email in my inbox after such a hectic day of running around preparing for the storm tomorrow.

  12. Hey guys anyone get the call for s&d yet? Are all the open houses completed? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

I haven't heard anything back yet; Been checking my email constantly and screening for numbers i'm unfamiliar with. Hoping to get some type of reply soon.

  13.

    Hey fed,
yeah based on the last time I was called back in '13 I received an invite to the S&D overview about a week later.  did you get any sort of information regarding the open houses as far as when they all end to actually start checking our email?  So training starts in August so we're looking at S&D overview and entrance exam/panel interview prior.  those are roughly a month apart.  I've been anxiously checking my mail hoping I'm not missing anything as you only get one shot at it.  Have you gotten called before or is this your first go-round in this process?

They said something about a class starting in Aug and September and if youre invited to take the S&D overview you'd get the materials either 3/28 with a test date of 5/2 or 4/18 with a testdate of 5/23. Im anxiously waiting for a response as well. This is my first go around and I've been applying to no avail on the website for many months. Really hoping to get that email soon.

  14. Was the test difficult?

How long did it take you? Did they provide enough time?

The test was pretty straight forward. The cognitive was the most tricky imo but they do give you a decent amount of time to answer as many questions you can.

just curious, did you see your status change on your application on the their website? Mine just says submitted, just wondering if maybe they update the website. thanks and good luck.

My status still says submitted as well. I checked today to see if they'd made any changes or updates but nothing.

  15. That's weird that they are making you go all the way out to Babylon. Anyway, refer back to my long post in the first couple of pages of this thread if you want some idea of what you're in for.

Yeah we had to be there for 730 am sharp. It was a pretty large group (over 100 ). Glad to have made it through the cognitive, vocabulary, math and interview. Hoping to hear something back about next steps soon.
