This is the kind of job and environment where teamwork is really important. Being able to work well with others and communicate is essential to both your safety and your success. Based on the way you talk about your coworkers and talk to people on here, I don't think you are going to have a very long or enjoyable time on the railroad.

Never know, he seems like transp mgmt material

This is very discouraging, my class is made up of a bunch of donkeys. We already had one person fail the book of rules test and now we are right in the middle of air breaks. One girl in the class literally broke down and was crying her eyes out over air brakes. I have never seen so many grown men so scared as these guys in this class. We do go out and look at all the stuff on all the different types of trains and i am at the point where i am super bored in class.

If you just passed your signals and definitions test this past week think long and hard about working here as an a/c. All you do is study within a half hour of waking up all the way up until you close your eyes for bed.

If for some reason you decide you dont want to to study for just one night you fall very far behind. When they say you will have no life you really dont have any life at all for years. So consider this a warning ac class sucks think twice before you actually take the job.

It’s a small world and the rr is even smaller. You don’t know who knows who and who’s related to some shotcaller.

Wise up, stfu and don’t forget to throw the toggle when you get out new guy.

I dont know why you guys are coming at me like this but its uncalled for. This is all because ironhorse couldnt take the time out to read a few posts before he gave his two cents. Everyone else should just mind their business.  Dont worry about my career with the railroad! Im not here for any of you, i am here for myself!

Thanks again fd87, it seems your the only standup guy in this entire forum. Thank you again for your advice.

Thank you thank you thank you soooo much for that information!! it is extremely usesful information to me!!!

I was at the S&D overview on June 11th and the last thing they did was hand out the cd and the instructor told us that we did NOT have to email it back to them. Im guessing that we were the first ones to be told we no longer have to email the cd back?

Its soo good to know that you found the cd to be useless as i have not even used it yet.

Im finding that the “Zone A” Signal names are throwing a monkey wrench into the other signal names because they kind of look very similiar to the “Zone C” signal names. its annoying the fuhhhhh outta me lol.

Thank u sooo much again for your help and if you would like to give me any other reccomendations, i will gladly use them :)

Cd was helpful for the definitions. The computer won’t let you miss a word or jumble it out of order whereas with the flashcards you might miss something and glaze right over it.

I'm not aware of anyone ever failing out of class because of Air Brake or Tickets, but I'm sure it's possible. Again, the training instructors do a very good job with making sure everyone knows exactly what is expected of them with regards to the exams.

AC18-2 had 3 ac’s fail rules and 1 ac fail air brake.

Air brake is definitely easier but the prospect of an easier topic shouldn’t lull any ac’s into a sense of security.

    Study study study.

I'd recommend a rugged boot, black w/ heel, that can take a beating.  You're gonna be walking thru puke, piss, train yards, rocks, rough terrain, anything you can thing of.

You’re awesome thank you. I assume black timberlands would be considered acceptable?

    Quick physical test:

     1) First simulation was climbing up and down a ladder off the ground to a platform and vice versa which duplicates a train climb

    2) Second simulation was pulling a weight pulley (cant remember how heavy it was but nothing to worry about) towards you with both hands to simulate being able to opening car doors

    3) Third simulation was walking over a mat which had rocks underneath with beams to duplicate walking over a track/uneven surface. Also have you step over a obstacle to show you can step over the third rail.

Vision test, urine test, hearing test, blood pressure....thats all there is to it. Dont think im forgetting anything.

Is there a hair test at any point through this process or is it only urine

Drug test is during medical which is after S&D exam and panel interview and after receiving conditional offer. I took the S&D test on 11/6 and passed, received conditional offer and background check information and am currently awaiting a call back for the next step which is medical which is the drug test along with a few other things. Medical is the last step in the hiring process. Good luck!!

    Trainguy youdaman 100 grand.

    Good luck! Thanks again
