We know about the complaints to the QM2 and QM20, and will be requesting that the QM2 and QM20 be removed from 59th and returned back to 57th street.  We have been taking a lot of QM2 trips especially and requesting that road ops give additional attention to both Bay Terrace branches.  Furthermore, we will be requesting that the 00:00 QM2 be restored, and if necessary the QM32 trips back to Bay Terrace in the morning be considered for elimination to ensure that said QM2 trip is restored. The QM2 via 6th Avenue would still run every 30 minutes as it currently does in the mornings back to Bay Terrace.

We'd also ask for one or two more QM20 Super Express trips back to Bay Terrace at night so that more people could take advantage of the 6th and 36th stop. This could be done with some tweaking to the schedule and thus be cost neutral.

Finally, we'd call for the implementation of the QM20 running on weekends.  The feedback we've received seems to indicate that a lot of QM2 riders on weekends are actually QM20 riders, but since the QM2 tends to serve the more tonier parts of Northeast Queens such as Beechhurst and Malba (Whitestone), it is understood why the (MTA) runs the QM2, aside from those areas being more isolated.  The other option we considered was just having the QM2 run every 30 minutes for part of the day on weekends, but that doesn't seem to be as popular.

The move back to 57th St would help traffic-wise but probably won't happen due to DOT turn restrictions along 57th.  But they should encourage more drivers to bypass CPS.  I sometimes see drivers turning onto 57th, then Madison, and then back onto 59th in order to beat out the ridiculous traffic jams that can occur outside the Plaza Hotel.  If DOT can get involved, they need to find a way to increase No Standing restrictions on 59th to get more cars moving instead of ridiculous merges for parking/standing lanes that appear and disappear.

Additional SX trips would be nice, though taking away some local service in Midtown would suck for those riders in order to remain cost neutral.  Maybe they can convert a QM2 trip to a SX, since there's only one lonely trip on the schedule so far.

Structural maintenance on the viaduct if I'm not mistaken. Starting Monday, all (7) service will be local-only between 74 St-Broadway and Queensboro Plaza in both directions.

Thanks...I thought they finished this crap when they had this same service pattern in late February.  Oddly enough the MTA hasn't said a peep about this or posted anything about it on their service changes.

  3. Some drivers head down and take the tunnel.  I've had some 8 PM hour buses that flip down to the tunnel and take the SX route or even keep going on the GCP.

It is a shame they got rid of that 00:00 run for the QM2, since it was a good late bus to catch if I was hanging out in the city late at night.  Now the latest bus option is the 23:30 QM20 and that's it.  I don't think too many people will miss the late hour runs from Bay Terrace back into the city.  I took a 7:30PM QM20 once into the city and there were only 3 people heading in, including myself.

This is part of the customer service problem. I'm sure the passengers didn't take a <7> only to be held up for 20+ mins getting to Main Street, especially when there are most likely locals passing by during that time. They could/would have switched at Junction Blvd or Willets Point if they knew the train was going to be held, many of them have to transfer to a bus!

Indeed...piss poor management at the Main Street terminal if there were no technical reasons to hold that train like a signal or switch malfunction (there weren't any as per their Twitter).  That stuck <7> from today ended up taking nearly 40 minutes to finally enter Main Street.  Got stuck on the bridge around 7:30PM and didn't enter the terminal until after 8PM.  That's just absurd.

  5. Not sure if it has been discussed here before but what is with the gridlock that plagues Main Street on the (7) and <7> during the evening rush mainly between 6-8PM?  There's usually a conga line of trains waiting to enter Main Street and only a trickle of trains heading back west into Manhattan or the yard.  There doesn't appear to be any prioritization between waiting (7) and <7> trains waiting to enter the terminal either.  Is it an issue with being a three-track terminal or just poor terminal ops with getting crews ready to head back out?

When a new pick is in effect, do all drivers switch runs? Seeing different drivers on th CP express runs i usually take, not all are good.

I'm happy that my express bus driver this pick changed back to the same one from last summer.  He's fast and bobs and weaves through traffic like a pro.  The good ones even wait in Manhattan at the last pick-up until it's near their scheduled time to depart for Queens.

I'm always afraid of getting the driver I would sometimes see last summer on the QM2.  He would always stay in one lane, never go above 25 MPH, and would be horribly late every day.

CBTC was off friday evening rush hour. Eastbound to Main Street, screen said "Bypass" when I got on, at 74th a blinking "CBTC available" message came on and stayed on in addition to "Bypass" till Main Street. Its still not being used during Rush Hour.

This morning, CBTC only seemed to be in effect from Main Street through to Junction Blvd.  They seem to be smoothing out the terminal ops issues slowly but I'm not sure what happened to the stretch between Junction Blvd and Woodside that was supposed to be active.

Do B/Os ever get in trouble for using codebreak signs or other forms of clearly incorrect signs when they are deadheading? I get a kick out of those signs,  but I can see it confusing or annoying people.

I wonder this as well.  I just saw a bus deadheading back in Queens with "X81 Randalls Island" on its destination sign.

  9. Something is definitely going on with the CBTC signals around Main Street and Willets Point.  Second morning rush in a row with trains running slower than normal through the area.  It's as if the signaling system can't handle all the switch moves that go on in this area at this time.

  10. The flashing greens were definitely alive for the morning rush on the 7 today.  Though I'm not sure if that or the snow started to mess things up.  One <7> run was skipped while the run I took felt a bit slower going through the switches after Willets Point and around 74 Street.

Yikes, what a ride home today on the QM2.  Traffic was unbelievable horrific today.  I don't know if it's because everyone was trying to rush home before the storm or what.  My 6th ave QM2 that left at 4:45pm didn't get to Linden/Whitestone Expy until about 6:30.  This is usually about an hour or so trip.  I've never seen the Queensboro bridge so backed up.  My driver actually went via the Upper Roadway to get to Northern which I'm not sure really saved us any time because it literally took us about a half hour to get from the exit off the bridge onto 21st street to where the lower roadway would turn onto Northern.

I actually felt bad for the poor B/O.  He was clearly very frazzled (though he was a very skilled driver) and had it by the the time I got off.

I got stuck in this mess yesterday afternoon too.  There was an accident on the Manhattan-bound lower level.  But there weren't any traffic cops in Queens Plaza yesterday so the whole area gridlocked causing 30-45 minute delays crossing through Queens Plaza...it was a nightmare.

Meanwhile, this afternoon, the buses are booking it back to NE Queens with low traffic and probably low passenger volumes.

  12. Anyone here know how the Q34 Roosevelt Ave short-turns are run?  They start at 5:40 AM out of 149 St but there's no scheduled return trips until 6:37 AM.  Do the drivers just hang out, deadhead back, or go run another route after?

A similar thing happens in the evening with three Roosevelt Ave shuttles running from 11:08 PM to 12:08 AM but the origin of the bus is unknown.

Same question I asked. They note that it runs on BusTime... Put up a schedule online! The QM2 was becoming crowded which is why they started running the QM20, but still. No schedule to show when it runs.

They have a special MLK Day/Day After Thanksgiving schedule which basically shows hourly service.  I guess the MTA is too lazy to add Presidents Day to this schedule.
