Yup that and like a few latenesses, Once they take you outta service they'll find any reason to let you go when you're on probation. Go look at your file to see what's in there and discuss everything with a union rep. Prevention is better than cure when it comes to going through probation

More than likely they kicked you back because of lateness. Usually they send u back to school car to retrain, at least thats what ive heard.

  2. When i used to do PE i used to get there at 6 am and stand outside on line and be done by 10am.

for those starting school car or transit in general please do not take everything that is said for truth. EVERYTHING is subject to change down here. Some days in school car we did 7-1500pm some days 1500-2300 mon-fri but ive seen some classes work weekends too

Can someone please explain " late clear " how much additional money this actually is. Also, anyone recently on the job give me an idea on how much OT is available during your first and/or second year. I am trying to determine with OT, late clear, night or weekend diff, how much you can reasonably expect to make in the first few years on an annual basis. Obviously the pay rate increased in steps but I am  really concerned with what you can expect in year 1 or 2?,,, Thanks!

Late clear is when you finish after your scheduled time, i.e. if you have an 8 hr job and u stay 8 hrs and one minute then thats a late clear.

Just feed them pizza and they'll be happy.

Lmao the most rats you see are at the station thats where the food is! Its the homeless you need to worry about! If u go to the b division ull probably walk from euclid ave to grant ave on the c/a line im not sure about the A division tho

To piggyback off his question, on the second day, what articles of uniform is provided to us? And also I have my own - police officer navy blue cargo pants, could That be acceptable in the future?

You will be wearing your clothes until your measured, my advice about that is to go home and measure urself and tell the lady ur measurments cus 95% of us had to send our clothes back, and ur pants cant be cargo pants, ESPECIALLY in school car and on the road u have dispatchers that wont let you sign on if ur not in proper uniform. The pants cant have pockets at the knees so if ur going to get dickies make sure they dont have the pockets

The very first day are we required to wear uniform?

Yes, blue button down and navy blue pants and ur TA issued boots. Even tho on the paper it says a collared shirt i suggest you get a button down cus theyll tell you that you need a button down tucked in

Anyone know roughly the ratio of potential conductors who pass versus fail the Final exam in school car? I hear most people pass, but my concern is what would cause someone to fail?

There really isnt a ratio, tbh its up to you if u fail.... u have to study!

ask questions, ask questions, ask questions..... oh.... & ask questions!! I cannot emphasize this enough.

School car is fun if you have a great tss but even still they give those big books and readdddd ittt ! Take notes, even tho u think ull use them on the road but u wont. Just let go and prepare for the new journey your about to embark.

Btw the final is easy so is the midterm  but again... study!

Under 17 you are good. Bmi sounds good too.  For me was hearing . Have to go get an independent test.

If ur on medical hold u should be trying to clear that asap, (not saying u arent) but just so u guys know... just because your on medical hold doesnt mean they hold ur spot... the keep on going on. The faster u get all ur stuff in and sworn in the better. List numbers dont matter anymore once u start... seniority numbers do. They calculate that by whoever brings all their stuff and is sworn in first

Hey, what’s the difference between the two divisions and which one is more favorable???

B division is all letter trains, A is number trains. B division has more equipment as far as trains go. But like someone said if u do get to choose ... choose what is better for you. For my class we didnt get to choose there was only 23 of us & we were all sent to the B and one other person who chose the A because she had started earlier but didnt complete training. Tbh i love being in the B division because i live in queens & there arent really any number trains other than the 7 & that trains a mess  lol... but do your research and go into schoolcar with an open mind. A lot of the things down here u dont have control over and u gotta "pay your dues". Best of luck to all

As long as I'm not stuck on the grand central shuttle train then I'll be fine imagine just going back and forth only 1 stop for 8 or 16 hours

Shuttle trains dont have conductors , its opto so its just a train operator who opens and operates

Oh okay I thought they went through like 10 years of jobs and called every place you worked at, I also heard if you're fat then you're screwed is that also true?

Your bmi shouldnt be over 25 if i remember correctly & ur neck cant be more than 17 inches if u have both then they send u for sleep apnea testing, if u have sleep apnea they give u the cpap machine . The downside is during that time ur on medical hold so u might lose ur spot in the class if u dont clear the hold fast.

Yeah Man!.... LoL....... Start Posting on Wednesday 2/6.......2 more days of class til then...... I, as you probably know already, heard some of these stories from other on the job Conductors, but nothing like feeling and seeing the real deal going through it myself. Your words of wisdom are golden too and I will definitely heed them too!....

Our CRB class is talking about this might be the last time we are all together at the same time and all..... Wondering....how often do you run into CRB/A classmate on the road?

And yeah......those 1 hour lunches together will be missed!......

Tbh i barely run into a classmate but we talk everyday... those are the people u grow with in transit ... & those 1 hr lunches are always missed and the stability of school car as far as scheduling goes ... ur about to have a love/hate relationship with overtime.... somedays u just want to go home and not be on the road but they will wave that "its money though" thing in your face. But then some days are amazing !

It's very important for you guys keep fighting for this job.... Yes, I said fighting for this job as in battling these hardships of taking time off to come to these PE's/DT's. This is another way of how they get from 898 to 1041 to fill a class of 60 so fast........some people just give up or in between get called from another list of a test they've taken and take that offer instead. Candidates get weeded out. If you guys are getting these PE's/DT's means you're getting close and your time will come. I took 3 PE's/DT's before finally getting into Schoolcar.

The funny or cool thing about this is your perseverance will pay off and if you've notice at these PE's/DT's , you see the same faces going every time you do too......some of these people will be your classmates and more importantly your sub-classmates and you will be joking about this in Schoolcar.......So!......to kill some time....you know....waiting.....and waiting...and waiting some more when your at 180 Livingston....get a head start of meeting and knowing them...... you will be joking about this in Schoolcar too......

Damn i miss schoolcar :,(. I hear u guys will be posting next week... time to see what its REALLY like in the real world. BUT ALWAYS STICK TO SCHOOLCAR RULES..... u guys will understand when you are posting .

I feel the same way you do at times, especially since I live in Brooklyn and got forced into the A division and the crew office seems hell bent on placing me on the damn (6) line 3-4 days a week, but then I remember why I took this job and I just suck it up and keep it pushing. The only thing I miss about school car is road ops and the guaranteed 1 hour lunch breaks lol I love the road.

That question is kind of vague. "Easy" depends. The toughest part for me is dealing with the public. It can be very stressful at times especially when the road blows up and you have people yelling at you as if it's your fault when the situation is completely out of your control or dealing with some of the characters in the RCC. That and dealing with our lovely crew office.

It isn't a bad job at all though every job has bs that comes with it. I've had days where i literally got paid to sit around and do nothing for 8 hours, or doing 1 trip or a trip and a half and being on the train for 1:45 mins tops out of an 8 hour day.

I'm just using this as a stepping stone to becoming a T/O since i didn't meet the requirements for that title, but overall i love putting on my uniform and going to work.

Yeah im in the B division and boy ....... some days are overwhelming but then again there are some days i do nothing. You learn how to roll with it & have tough skin working for transit, not only does the public hate u but u got some co workers who arent the nicest but then u find sweethearts too.

Out 5 mos? Started 5 mos ago or out on leave for 5 mos? Max is 16 hrs right? I did a 19 or 19.5 day last year and an 18 hr once or twice at the hotel.

I started with transit about 5 months ago. I mean thats a long day at the hotel ... i see your post about the decisions that u have to make and all ur pros are for the hotel... maybe u can take a leave of absence when transit calls u back so u can try it out. Tbh there are days when i wanna give up but i know its best for my future ... the road is NOTHING like school car
