As a man with a wife and toddler that's the part that I'm not looking forward to. Still, my wife understands sacrifices have to be made by me on their behalf. When my daughter graduates from her private schools and goes off to a good college that I will be able to pay for, she will thank me.

And you will be able to do that on a T/O salary!!! Unfortunately you may miss some of your toddlers special occasions because of our schedule. It is a sacrifice...

I got my email for med for this Wednesday the 9/12. I went in on 9/6 for my second lab.  Any of you out there going through school car please chime in i wanna know how is it going and how difficult it is??

    My list #57*

Prepare to give up most of your personal life over the next couple months. If you have access to the signals start studying them. You must know them word for word. 100% is required on both signal tests. Get used to not using your cell phone at all unless on a break. A lot of current vacancies we are filling are from cell phone and smart watch users while operating. 0 tolerance for that.

A lot you us talked about the money T/Os make, there's a reason for that. Take the job seriously and you need to put in work in the beginning. It will pay off when get off probation in a year. Car school is more like booth camp than anything else.

Also, on the green sheet that tells me where to report for school car it says no backpacks, is this true? Is it just for these 2 days, because I’m assuming I’m gonna need a backpack.

I have the same question. I remember the interviewer saying to bring the bigger book on the second day. Not sure how we're expected to bring papers and books with nothing to put them in.

If hes coming from wheatley heights he should be on train 2005 during the weekdays which has the first atlantic terminal getting him in around 5:55am. Should be fine. If they ever surprise you with a weekend class that would be where the challange comes in. Thats when trains don't start rolling in until around 6:40.

That is correct. But it is still a transfer at Jamaica according to the July 21 to September3rd schedule. When I went in for processing there was a later 7:16 train that went directly to Atlantic, the new schedule doesn't show any direct trains to Atlantic terminal. If there is a weekend class I'll probably drive in.

Not 100% sure, but I don’t think the LIRR to Atlantic runs early at that time. You might wanna double check. I think the earliest LIRR train to Atlantic leaves around 630 and gets there at 655.

Your right. I'm transferring at Jamaica.

The TSS, instructors, recommend that we take public transportation because if there is a train delay you have to get the train car number and give it to them so they can investigate the nature of the delay, thus, you won’t get penalized for being late.

However, if you drive in and there’s traffic, accidents, etc, then they hold that against you. Remember 3 lateness and you get fired. BTW parking sucks because of the street cleaning.

One more thing to remember, school starts at 7am. let’s say you take the train which is scheduled to arrive at the stop you get off at 645am and there was a delay then you’re covered. BUT, if that train is scheduled to arrive at 659am and there is a train delay, you’re not covered because you would of been late regardless of the train delay

I would recommend take public transportation because you won’t have the headache of looking for parking and you’re covered if train is late if you would of made it on time. Besides, you can take a nap or study while you take public transportation, just don’t fall asleep and end up in Coney Island lol.

Thanks, so good to know! I'll be on 430 train from where I am, transfer from Jamaica to Atlantic and take the D from there I think.

Definitely not. I’ve been driving in from Queens and getting to the school around 5:45. Figured if get there early I can always take a quick nap in the car or study. Going to dread taking the train carrying all the books and equipment.

I wonder when the new hires receive and starts to wear their uniform how strict the TSSs are going to be about appearances.

I'm coming from LI. How tight is parking? I'm concerned about train delays and cancellations like the one on Friday. The interviewer recommended I drive in because of the "complexity " of the directions they gave us.

Still bullshit that I haven't even been called for medical yet with a 2xx list number. Starting to think there are certain "quotas" that need to be met and certain people are getting skipped over. If you have a better theory then I'd love to hear it.

No offence, but did you pass the drug test?

  9. So I just completed final processing. TOs are still being hired provisionally because the city has not approved the list yet. From what the interviewer said it's just a formality until the list is approved,  no date as to when that will be done. Explains why no list has been published yet.

How is that fair though if everything is supposed to be by seniority?

Fair and seniority? Honestly, 95% of employees there couldn't care less. They act as if there doing you a favor. I try not to get caught up in their "politics".

I’m confused...I’ve read people saying that they are “now going by the open competitive list”...so has this list been established yet or not??

Yes. Based on what I was told after completing my medical and not being fingerprinted and sworn in, yes the list has been established. Not sure if its published to public or not.

So you went for medical and didn’t sign your oath ? Were you placed on medical hold?

After completing medical was told there are now following the open competitive list. Email for medical on Friday, by next Tuesday the July 9th start date for me was changed. No medical hold.

Was it a provisional number or a established number.

Did the letter state the list is expected to be established June/July 2018 or nah.

Actually I just looked at the letter I was sent and it gives my list number and says that my name will be placed on the eligible list once it is established. That letter was dated may 10th.  I'm guessing the list was established mid June when they stopped processing provisional candidates and told me they are following the open competitive list.

Were you placed on medical hold by any chance?

Hopefully they call you soon. I'm still waiting for the medical appointment.

Does anyone know whether going by the open competetive list will slow things down for those yet to be called for medical?

Medical hold I cleared the next day. Going by the open competitive list means they have to initiate the employment process for everyone ahead of you before they get to your number. You will get called for medical when they reach you on list.

From what we were told during PE, they were so short on TO they had to start calling people in provisionally to start filling positions before the list was established. More than likely those who were hired provisionally will be made permanent by the time they start training because the list is now established.

  15. I've been following this thread for a couple weeks. Did my pre employment around May 16th. Got called in for Medical and final paperwork, which I completed June 11th and 12th. After completing my medical I was told they are now following the open and competitive list. They told me I should hear from them in a week and half. When I called week and half later, was told again they are now following the open and competitive list. So I still have a money order for fingerprinting that I may need to cash in before it expires. Still hoping I get called in for the July 9th. My number is 28*.
