And also does anyone know what type of questions that the transit electrical helper exam has is it like any other mta exam like the bus operator/track worker exam.

I am not sure if the associate degree counts but you can always call up 180 Livingston HR and Ask. I didn't have experience but I had a bachelor (at the time of the test I only had an ASS but they never asked for proof or anything) .

The test was easy, there were maybe 2 or 3 electrical questions (Simple Ohms Law and Power question, the formulas were given) and the rest was all comprehensions. They give you like a brief short story and then ask you a question about it, mostly safety stuff.

i think what they’re doing is getting you basic qualifications..my first two weeks i did track safety, right to know, and fire evac/safety. so i believe your first day will be at Atlantic and next day or that night if youre nights, youll go to your spot. i think 3 of you will go locust night and 1 will stay bk days.

As long as I can get Locust i'll be happy at this point lol Go chill with my buddy.

BX always needs drivers lol..they just got 6 helpers and sent one of their drivers to BK..those 6 obviously would go for driving school before you..wonder why youre doing 3 weeks before coming...you doing Fire Prevention or Right to Know?

Not really sure what's going on lol.

We did Right to Know last week. Track training is on thursday/friday.

You in class already at 53rd? I thought you were starting first day like at 130 on the 15th. The supervisors and office guys will be there on the 15th but all the helpers and maintainers are off. The last group that came in stayed in BK until they were all qualified and then got shipped to Locust. About 5 months. Not sure if they will do the same with 3 guys. BK days only has 3 helpers that aren’t drivers and they will probably be promoted soon. When did your friend start in Cable?

I'm at 53rd Yes. Started on the 24th. Me and 3 other guys coming into cable. My friend started last year july or something like that. The power school dudes said that cable in BX was looking for a driver so who knows.

So the week of the 22nd you’ll come to Atlantic. That’s where im at..BK days..i dont think youll have an issue getting bronx but it will probably be nights. Helpers in Cable don’t drive unless they have CDL. its a 2 week class but it takes a while to go to that class and its up to office who is gonna go. SO and Zones, don’t need a CDL. As for your transfer, you can put it in but it will be at least several months before they honor any transfers. Your buddy is in Locust Night right?

Yeah, BX Nights. Why the 22nd lol? They said 15th but who knows honestly. The teachers told me helpers in SO/Zones don't drive trucks. They drive SUVs and what not. Don't need a CDL. Idm getting a CDL for cable but i hate driving big ass cars in nyc.

lol..idk why all you guys think cable is so bad..its really not. ive been there since April 2018, made decent money as a helper, got my CDL, get half hour OT everyday by coming in early to inspect my truck, got promoted at 1 year, and the work really isn’t that labor intensive. im not going to go into detail about my day but trust me, its really not that bad. ill guarantee that you were working harder with your current jobs than you will here. What is your start date?

I was told I should go on the 8th but they later came back and said the 15th. I am going to ask just to make sure. Have to go to Atlantic to get location, hopefully the bronx.

And Idk man, I barely did anything in my previous job. I'm going to file my transfer first day but If i decide i like it then i'll definitely stay. My buddy in the cable section said he filed his 170 the first day but he liked it there so he decided to stay. The power school guys said that Helpers mainly drive, even in the other sections (SO/Zones).

For those who are about to start, do you know when you'll be able to log onto the BSC?

Have you also been able to order your work shoes?  I called HR and they said they would send the information to the company that they get shoes from on Monday.  It's Wednesday now and no progress.

You can log on now, the green paper they gave you has the info. The BSC# is just your emploee #.

Just got a call and email to come in tomorrow carefully labeled as Trans electrical helper. Not E&E as before. For consideration of the July 15th class. Anyone inside know what’s that class? I hope not signals. I want E&E

It's most likely going to be Power but do keep us updated!

Damn so nobody else is going to E and E department ? That sucks. I was looking forward to E and E.  Hope I hear from her soon cause I’m getting impatient lol. When do u start ?

I wanted to get in there also, they asked me to come in Thursday but i asked if i could come in Friday. I think if i went Thursday i could've gotten E&E but damn. I start this Monday, there's going to be a class the next Monday and so on and so forth. The guy behind me in the line starts on July 1st. There's alot of spots so no worries.

  9. I called HR Department yesterday to see what I had to do to switch, they told me to come in and talk to Hiring Manager.

So I went in and talked to the person who hired me, they said to talk to Michelle, she's incharge of all that. So I spoke to michelle and she said the only thing thats open right now is Power and sent me on my way home.

Also, she was still making calls for people to come in so don't worry folks.

Everybody gets a choice, if theres 10 guys and 9 say BK days, they all aint going to BK days. There's a quota. If I had to rank best chance of going where it would be; 1-BX Nights,2-BK Nights,3-BX Days,4-BK Days. A ton of guys just got promoted so helpers are scarce. Before this move on the 30th, BX Nights only has 2 helpers. And whatever helpers are left who are becoming permanent soon, will probably be promoted by August. As for E&E, I know nothing.

Oh cool, Thank for the info! Much appreciated.

Nope, BX is easy to go to. They’re actually shipping 6 helpers from BK days to BX Nights on the 30th. When you come in, Supervisor will usually ask where you want to go but in the end, the General Superintendent has the final say. Also it depends on your seniority within your class. Junior guys usually get sent to BX Nights. Your friend didn’t tell you all this? lol

    BK Days - Tues-Saturday 8am-4pm

BK Nights - 10pm-6am, not 100% sure if they’re off Sun Mon or Fri Sat

    BX Days -  Sun-Thurs 8am-4pm

BX Nights - Sun- Thurs 10pm-6am..they start their week on Sunday Night for Monday

He told me that they go off the list and seniors get to choose. Everyone I asked said getting BX is easy but you never know.

Do you know if Elevators/Esc have a headquaters like BK/BX or are they all over the place? I like the idea of getting a bronx shift lol The power department is like 15 mins away from me.

Who did you speak to about putting you into elevator? I was initially supposed to be in elevator but for some reason they changed me to power. I'm trying to get this situation all sorted out since that's initially why I took the job.

Let me know if you figure it out, trying to do the same.

I’m in Cable Section lol..if he thinks its that intense then every other section must do nothing lol. I love it, I have no other section to compare it to but I don’t think we do that much labor intensive work. It’s more having the possibility of getting dirty because we’re always in manholes. The OT is always there and there’s room for quick movement because a lot of senior guys are retiring within the next 5 years. If you don’t like it, you put in for a transfer. Anyway, who’s your friend?

He works in the Bronx side, can't really give his name.

Since you seem to know alot, would it be difficult to be set up in The Bronx? I know you don't really get to choose but I don't think The Bronx is a very desirable station for most people.

don’t knock it til ya try it lol..good chance if you’re in power, you going to come to Cable Section

I have a friend in power and he said it's the toughest of the branches, and he said cable is the most intense in the power section lol

Which section are you in and what is your opinion of it?

I went in on Tuesday, did medical, after I did the medical, found out that medical isn't required for Elevator and apparently the front desk was trying to put us in Signals.  I said I didn't want Signals because my letter said Elevator and I accepted the offer based on that so they hired me for Elevator on the same day.  I start later this month.

HR has been really good throughout the whole process.

f**k man, you got lucky. They put me in power 😕

I'm going to see if maybe i can switch.

And for people wondering, we are coming in as Permanent. I put provisional under one of the papers but the HR lady corrected me, she had me redo the whole page so it shows permanent.
