I'll echo the sentiment to not print the rulebook. Have school car provide you with a copy.

Someone who went through school car recently can certainly chime in, but I'm going to assume you'll get one when they hand out your tools.

When I had my swearing in at 180, and finished paper work, they gave me the rule book right then and there along with the info for the boots, first day orientation time and location, all of that. So I’m assuming if they told them to print it, it’s probably accurate. They also didn’t provide my induction with PDF’s of the books, we had to get them from other people.

  2. Hello everyone! Does anyone have good recommendations for backpacks or anything that is smaller but just as durable and fits what is needed like the Kaka bag?! It served its purpose for school car but now since I’m starting road ops I want something smaller and not so chunky. TIA

Does that mean we’ll be sittin in class on thanksgiving lol?

Not necessarily. I mean you might but usually if you’re in the class part, the school car TSS’ usually get holidays I believe? But you’ll find out when you get your schedule for sure lol. Maybe someone from last year that was in a class can answer that for you.

Wish ppl stop wasting other ppls times and opportunity for this job, for those that actually want the job and those getting called and leaving. Bad enough transit takes a sh!t long time to contact you, This is not a cake walk 9 -5 ,, ya be all over the place with no time for personal time unless you become a senior  senior employee. TRY LIRR or Metro North all ya be crying , Rto subways is cake. Stop wasting people's time for those that are dedicated and willing to do the job.

Eh I get you being frustrated BUT if the opportunity presents itself, and it’s your turn on the list, you’re gonna wanna take it to see if it’s for you or not. Don’t get me wrong, you should know whether it’s for you or not in the first few months, but it takes some people longer. And to be fair, unless you work in transit already, there is no way to know or predict what this job entails until you’re in training for it. I don’t think it’s a waste of time because who is going to want to miss a great opportunity and sit back and wonder if they made a mistake not going for the job without trying?

As of this week I have graduated schoolcar and I'm now officially an XX train operator. Thank you to everybody on this forum for the help.

Congrats man!!! Been seeing you posting since you started, seemed like it was yesterday haha. Good luck out there!

Is there a way to find out how much the weekly/monthly cost is for the various plans? I don't see it on the web site.

So only one option has a payroll deduction if I’m not mistaken. The others don’t. When you get your new hire info it will all be in there for specifics but it’s cheap per bi-weekly pay period.

I would ask if the points effect your standing and then just eat it so you get in the june class and take a defensive driving course to get some points knocked off

Thats the route I think he should take…. Depends on how bad you want/need the job…. But i hear they are having an August class too, but its up to you if you want to risk it.

Yeah this is not good i have 6 points on my license and that is a 6 point ticket iam fighting

Yeah thankfully didn’t have any points yet but I had to get the 6 points…. I know it sucks but once again it’s up to you what you do. I didn’t want to risk it and then finding out, so I took the L. I know you can take driving class to get some of them knocked off so do with that what you will. Good luck and I hope it all works out.

Thank you for the info.  When I went for pre employ they only asked if I had a valid NYS drivers license, they never asked about pending tickets. Going in for Conditional offer 5/26 and I have a open ticket which I have a lawyer fighting it.  Not sure what to do

Plead guilty and pay fine… my advice, that’s what I had to do. I had a lawyer too but my hearing was set back too far so if you want the job I’d just pay it.

Does anyone know if a pending traffic violation (disobey traffic device) would affect me from being hired? Getting ready to go in for conditional, filling out the CPD-B form under licenses it states, "a conviction record or pending criminal charges will not necessarily disqualify you from the position of which you are applying". Does anyone that's already done and passed the conditional have any info on this?

So when I went for preemployment the guy asked me if I had any moving violations or tickets and he just said I had to pay it and send him confirmation…. You have to disclose to them but it won’t affect your employment. I had a speeding ticket and he just said to pay it and send him the confirmation email.

Such a big fuss made out of cutting and adding...i haven't done any of that since i left schoolcar lol

Lol yeah they say that a lot, but I’m just worried about passing the practical, only reason why I’m stressing it.

    You getting a R46 or a R68 or a R68A...

All tech trains are over in Culver Yard and with the GO in effect not even sure if the power will be on.

I hope R46 then cause it’s easier doing it with no brake handle and no side bypass needed.

I want to know the same, next Saturday is my first practical but we have no idea where our group is going or what equipment to expect. How did you find out the yard location?

P.S. you got this bro 💪

Our TSS told us… they got their schedule for each class and what yard and TSS’ will be doing our walk throughs.

  14. So I have my first yard practical in Coney soon…. What’s the chance of us getting a New Tech train? Lol I feel I did cuts and adds much better on New Tech, then 46 and then I struggled with 68 but I still did a good job but I’m worried under pressure I might mess it up if we get the 68’s…. Any advice would be great!!

For those in school car.. is the rules and regulations book what we need to study for the signals? Which boots on the website do y’all recommend? How difficult has school car been in general?  TIA

Are you in the new induction that started Monday? Yes the signals are in the rules and regulations book, but I’d wait and let your TSS’ tell you what they want you to write for the definition…. Because you have to know them word for word and they have some shorter versions that are good enough to pass in the signal exams… to me the hardest part are the signals, everything else I’m doing decent on but the signals are taking forever. Boots I got were the Catepillar ones, they are heavy with the steel toe but I feel it’s still a comfortable boot. I’m happy there’s a new class cause now my induction isn’t “new” anymore lol and we have some seniority 🤣

My appointment to clear the hold is may 11th doubt that gets me into may 16th class but hope it gets me into the next class if it doesn’t

Be positive!! It can happen! I cleared my medical hold April 6th, they said April 11th class was full. Then I got a call on April 7th saying that they approved more spots in the class and I could come in for final processing on April 8th which was only three days before the start of class! It can happen!!

I understand. Thank you for replying and for the information. Most likely I will end up taking public transportation. But I also do not mind leaving my home an extra hour or so earlier to find parking. Also, pay wise you get your first check after 2 weeks right? I know some companies have you waiting after 3 weeks because of that first week thing. Not sure if transit is the same.

You get it the third week, I started 4/11 and got my first pay check yesterday

I had a question for anyone who already started training. Is it worth it driving to work? Meaning do you always report to the same location for training or do you bounce around?

I am in training now and you are never at one yard. You do go multiple times during the week sometimes to a certain yard to get familiar with it and the TSS will show you around then it’s up to you to find where you’ll be meeting from there on out. It depends to you if it’s worth driving… I live in Staten Island and there really is no “easy” public transportation way to get to anywhere else in the city, so I drive. It can get pricey BUT I always go earlier to find street parking for free, so that’s a way to save money. But if you live near a subway and it isn’t terrible to commute that way I’d recommend doing that cause you’ll save a good chunk of money since you get free rides. It’s my end of third week and we have been to concourse yard, Coney Island yard, Putkin yard and will be at 207 next week.
