  1. Good day to all I was just wondering bank in January  Of 2020 metro North posted on their job website locomotive engineer. I applied for the position the deadline was February 17th 2020. I was passed pre screened for the position 10 days later which would be February 27th. Then  The Corona virus pandemic started. My question to everyone who did apply that anyone that was passed pre screened receive a test date before the pandemic started or do you think they just postponed everything until this passes? I applied for the same position back in April of 2019 was passed pre screened but never selected to take the test. I did apply for this position back in January of 2018 and was selected to take the test on April 5th of 2018 and passed. somehow something went wrong with my selective attention test and did not pass. I was told I have to wait a year to  Reapply. So hopefully I get a chance at this again. Thank you if anyone has any information would be great

  2. Hello all. Just wondering if anybody heard anything  Metro North locomotive engineer exam. back in February they posted the locomotive engineers job posting on the metro North site. The deadline for the job posting was February 17th. I was passed pre screened 10 days later. A week after that started the pandemic of the Corona virus. I was wondering if anybody out there  Who applied for the position was passed pre screened and given an invitation to take the test. What I am thinking is that the Corona virus came and everything was put on hold before they announced testing times. If anyone received a test state for this job application deadline of February 17th please let me know. I do recall them posting this back in January and had to stop the posting  And repost it and asked anyone that had applied for the previous posting to re apply. Thanks

Good morning!! Had my panel interview on 10/11. Does anyone know how long it usually takes to hear back from them? Keeping my fingers crossed!!

Good morning guys congratulations. I just had my signals and definitions overview this past Saturday it was intriguing. I know there's a lot of stuff  To study and remember any  Pointers you can give me that you used to prepare for the test. My test is November 16th. Thanks guys

  6. I've been in the transportation business for 26 years never late. Thank you for the inside info. Two more questions is it an all day event does it last till 3 o'clock? And dress code I know no sneakers. For the open house I went with a pair of doctor pants with a nice polo shirt. Business casual good? I know some people showed up with jeans and it was not appealing not to Lucille Or the instructor. This is something I've always wanted and I believe if you put your mind to it something that you always wanted to do you will succeed.

Thanks. The Quizlet stuff for S&D was only about 90% accurate. Not good when it has to be verbatim.

I believed you from the beginning and now I’m beginning to see it real time. There is NO cutting corners.  One thing you will come to see is that none of the engineers will bullshit you.  They tell it like it is and it’s a lot of WORK as you will hear or have heard.  Book of Rules is a textbook and you will need to know it.  I’m not even halfway through it and I’m stressing.  But work at it and it will begin to stick.  Everyone is different so you need to learn what works best for you.  Listen to your mind and body.  Good luck to those going to S&D.  Everyday takes studying, don’t cheat yourself.

One question at the SND. They just give you information to study for 5 weeks there is no test on that date is there. I don't like surprises. I like to be prepared.

People don’t take me seriously. Lol. Guys. I made it to the end. Lol. I know what I’m talking about. Put the work in and you will make. You don’t put the effort, your just going to fail out the program and waste a seat that someone else could’ve been in.  #facts. Training. department and HR don’t play around. If your struggling. YOU WILL BE MEETING WITH HR for the talking. Glad I wasn’t under that much pressure.

Remember wear sweatpants or gym shorts. I made the mistake of wearing jeans and had to adjust my jeans to walk over ballast and mimic climbing a locomotive. Lol.

Good luck to all that Passed the S and D exam. I'm waiting for the S and D overview. I passed the 1st part at the open house. Can't wait to get going. Any pointers on what to start studying now before I get the information in the S and D overview. I want to face this. Thanks

  14. Good morning everyone just checking in. Today makes it 2 weeks since my open house and no email stating the next step which would be the Signals and definitions overview. I thankyou for everyone's feedback that if I was seen by HR after my vocabulary and cognitive test that I passed. I'm still not convinced in my mind until I receive that email. It's TRUE nerveracking. So from all the pros out there what and when should I expect the next step? At my open house I was just given a prelim interview after my test. A questionnaire about the job and my capabilities. I was not given any information to my passing the test. I was not given papers for background check. Just was told Lucele Marino will contact me either way and was told I was free to go. So now 2weeks past and now what. Thanks guys please give me some hope here. This has been my childhood dream. My playground.

Thanks good luck to you all.

Hi steve what's up I'm steve as well. Good luck.being you've been through the beginning process I attended the open house on 7/29/19 at the hillside Facility. After we took the vocabulary and cognitive test we were told to wait in the lobby. I was the 2nd one called in by a HR rep. I was seated at a desk in the back of the class room we took the exam in. She went over my application and resume and made sure its matched. Then she had questionare paper in front of her and then she asked me a series of questions pertaining to the job title. After that I was told I was free to leave. I asked before I left if I passed? The HR rep said Lucille Marino from HR will get back to you either way. I know I asked this before but I have to again. Did I pass, am i qualified for the next step. It's been 10days since i took the test and no word on anything. Can you let me know what to expect. I was told by many if you didn't pass the tests given you were just sent home. Is this true? Did they change the way they do things now? Just very anxious.this is my childhood dream to be a locomotive Engineer. Again good luck to you and yes attitude is everything.

How long does it take for the next step after passing the cognitive and vocabulary test from the open house. My test was last Monday 7/29. According to everyone here on the forum if I spoke to HR after my test. I passed. So I'm excited. Any thoughts?

  17. Hello  Everyone, I recently took the Long Island railroad locomotive engineers exam on the open house that was on Monday 7/29/2019. This was held at the hillside support facility. After we all signed in we took our spaces we had an overview of what the job entails then we were given the vocabulary test 1st then the cognitive test which was 3 parts. After we finished the tests we were told to sit out in the lobby and wait. I was the 2nd one to be called and when I was called I was brought back into the same Room that we had the testing and spoke to the human resources representative. She told me to have a seat she took out my application ,she took out my resume And on the top was a paper with what looked like to be my score of the test I took. She then pulled out a piece of paper that looked like a questionnaire. She then started asking me different types of questions about safety  And if I was mechanically inclined . I was also asked to give a situation that had to do with safety. Also how would I handle a very highly fast paced situation. I was also asked how do I prepare myself to be on time for work every day. Also a question about the mission statement of the Long Island railroad  That you basically were given the answer to in the overview. After all this was said and done I was told that I was free to go I then asked if I passed or failed the exam? I was told that Lucille marando the human resources director that was there with us that day will get back to me on that. I was not given and answer whether I passed or failed. My question is to the people that have taken this exam before does this mean I passed or do they just interview everyone and go through everyone's application as protocol. Common sense would say I don't think they would waste their time on all these applicants if you did not pass

So before I have a heart attack and worry myself to death please let me know what I should expect . Does this mean that I passed or does this mean that I failed or does this mean they just do this the everyone.  Thanks.
