  1. In light of the recent announcement on the NICE bus thread about NICE getting new Gillig CNGs, what are the odds of the MTA getting new buses from Gillig next? I hate to say it, but the current scheme would look pretty decent on an Advantage BRT and considering how broke the MTA is and how weird 2020 has been, the sky's the limit.

The Tanks are still good for another 4-6 years, Any CNG bus made between 2007-2010 has 15 to 20 year old tanks. 2011 or 2012 and up has 25 year tanks, NICE just want these orions gone due to high mileage and other reasons.

buses built between 1989-1997 CNG tanks are only good for 12 years

Buses Built between 1998-2010 (or 2010-present) tanks are good for 15 years

Optional Tanks could last up to 20 or 25 years anything Built after 2010

It's more like 1989-2000 was 12-13 years. 2001 and up until 2008 or so was 15 years and 2009 to the present are 20 years or more. The 2009 Orion VII NG  CNGs (#1700 was the 2008 pilot that was delivered in the fall of that year shortly after the #3800's started arriving) should be ATLEAST 15-16 years (tanks-wise), probably longer. The 2010-2011 buses should be the same if not longer and the 3Gs are about the same as the C40LFs in the city. In any case, why is NICE even getting these, I mean aren't they still in a contract with New Flyer? Those Advantage CNGs will never make pass 12 years, not with our punishing streets.

    (A) Euclid Av Shuttle late night might be discontinued replaced by buses?

    (5) No rush hour service to/from Flatbush Av.

    (G) will properly reduce to 3 cars during weekends.

    (M) Weekend, chambers St terminate/originate, late night Myrtle Av-Broadway.

    (N) Local via Whitehall St all times.

(Q): Local late night via Manhattan Bridge.

Franklin Av (S): Repalce by nearby B48?

I can kinda see the last part happening.

Apparently, there were protests from Black Lives Matter in the Freeport and Roosevelt area. They were marching along Merrick Road in Freeport, and another demonstration took place along Bablyon Turnpike into Merrick. It was peaceful right up until the protesters tried to march on the Meadowbrook at Southern State Parkway exit forcing police to act quickly. There were also similar demonstrations at Cedarhurst organized by the village itself which forced NICE's hand to pretty much end the n31/32 at Far Rockaway.

Surprisingly their numbers were in the few but undermined by Merrick Residents and an NCPD officer got fired. If the local paper is to be believed, the Black Live Matters in Long Island are made up of Young Adults from the Valley Stream, Elmont, Roosvelt, Freeport Area. This is baffling because there's already chapters of the NAACP located in Hempstead that perform similar functions.

Long Island is already in Phase I and it's about to open at Phase II this Wednesday. The Rioting in NYC was made terrible by the city being shutdown. NICE just released their summer schedule and service has returned to normal. I was getting confused about how disorganized the MTA ran their service during the lockdown and it took the Interim President to pretty much restore any semblance of order with a few words.

I know this is old, but I think that NICE was smart about curtailing service to the city in a particularly dangerous situation. Remember, those stupid riots were burning police vehicles and buildings. NICE has hundreds of CNG buses, so why run the risk of having a CNG bus being set ablaze. It's bad enough the there are hundreds more CNG MTA buses in the inner city. Compressed Natural Gas have a relatively low flash point.

It should be the stupidies thing in the world: to punish over 100.000 riders that every weeknight (1-5AM) take the subway since 1904 for some poor homeless. Ridicolous and ABSOLUTELY wrong. To stop Trump, but to stop also this delusional Cuomo.....That enough. NY is a 24/7 city!!

SMH, at this horrendous spelling. If you are going to try to make a point, edit your posts before posting this nonsense! God I can't stand people who does this crap!!!

Like I said, that Governor's race was THE ONLY race where that was a factor at all.

The other factors you mentioned did come into play as well, but NOT EVEN CLOSE to the strike with those over 65 who at that time overwhelmingly were from the time where baseball was KING.  Just like in England with the Brexit in 2016 where many over 65 admitted they voted for it because they wanted a return to what for them were the "good times" of the 1950's and '60s.

I'm sorry, but what exactly does this have to do with that subway fire earlier in the year?

    Orion folded......

Volvo and New Flyer are bus making giants, they aren't leaving, or canceling any orders anytime soon.

I mean, you're not wrong. I'm just saying that we can't be making long-term plans for these buses as we are not too sure what we will be getting and what will be cancelled. MTA's 2020-2024 capital plan could very well be a short one. The R262 contract is be delayed for the foreseeable future on the subway side and the R211 contract could be cut back on in terms of car quantity as well.

You’re responding to a post I made literally one month ago, so I do not have the photo on me. Hopefully someone else in this thread can provide you with proof.

Still a little surprised about that considering how Gleason's maintenance is  usually top notch. Can't remember the last time a bus caught fire from there, probably not since the mid-2000s.

That's not telling anyone to wait, that's making everyone think that they are going to those depots.

The NG's are 10 year old buses, who says that they won't send LFS HEVs to SI as a supplement to the novas? It can push out the 3Gs to other boroughs. Like I said, it's all speculation, not guarantees. Like I also said previously, you never know, you can see XDE40s in Eastchester for all i know, we just have to wait. What you said, is different from waiting.

To be honest with you, this order isn't even set in stone as the current MTA crisis is threaten to cancel some bus orders.

I'm curious why Eastchester has a local fleet of NG's if they have the Q50 and Bx23 which travel on the highway, Q50 moreso.

I really don't have an answer for that one. Most likely the NGs were all they could send to the depot being that all they had at the time were old buses (RTS's and Orion Vs) and that these were slightly better off at highway speeds than their OG counterparts. Though that does not explain why they didn't get some of the 2015 XD40s...

I can think of something else that's the stupidest thing in the world - and it aint got nothing to do with Cuomo, Trump, the year 1904, NYC being a 24/7 city, over 100k overnight riders during the work week using the subway, or homeless people.....

....like YOU, and this apparent obsessive infatuation of NYC..... You love NY so god damn much, get a room... Practice safe sex while you're at at...  Abstain from this forum any further... And wear a mask when you're out in public; don't need you spreading whatever the **** it is that got you parroting the same babble on here for as long as you have... Un-damn-believable.....

We get the ****ing message... We're New Yorkers going through this shit, all in the same.... Shut up already.

You do know he is just being loyal to his state right? Cuomo is the number #1 reason why NY is suffering right now.  We can only hope he gets in thrown in the slammer like that moron Ed Mangano did in Nassau.

  12. 18 minutes ago, NBTA said:

Once again, stop assuming. We don't know 100% where those LFS HEVs or XDE40s are going, even if it's obvious. It can get as random as seeing some of them in SI, or in WF, you never know.

So just like everyone else, please be patient until we have someone that has the sources and connections to confirm where stuff is going.

Well I'll tell you right now that the whole SI bit is not happening. Remember, the MTA wanted to get all the remaining 2009-2010 Orion 7.501 Next Generation hybrids off of Staten Island given the fact that they don't do well out there due to the higher speeds and less in the way of stop and go areas. They got those 2019 Nova LFS diesels for that specific purpose while the NG's left the island to go replace older buses on other boroughs. I understand that the hybriddrive battery pack systems on these buses (the upcoming LFS hybrids in particular whereas the New Flyer buses will be a mix bag for some reason)  will be a more advanced version than what the TA is used to (not counting the 10 existing XDE40 test buses at GA), but they will still be made by BAE systems, which had previously equipped the Orion 7 family with this tech. As it stands right now, the only electric buses that will be instore for the borough in the near future will be the full on EV buses (whenever those arrive). Until then, like I was trying to originally tell everyone on here, let's just wait and see. Thank you

It's also true that (B)(W)(Z) which have been cut also don't serve unique stations.  Cutting those services will reduce the frequency of trains as well as reducing some express train service but it has no effect on cutting access to any station or neighborhood.  It is the easiest way to make a cut.  But if you need to cut service overall by 40%, simply reducing service may not be enough - you will have to begin eliminating some service and some jobs as well, sadly.

What is the MTA thinking by getting rid of the 7 train?!?!

Just recently, i noticed Orion VII Next Gen #1879 on the n4 with rear and side cameras similar to the ones on the XN40's. If anyone knows, could you tell me when NICE began installing external cameras on their Orions? Thanks!

Alot of the Orion 7.501 EPA10 "3G" CNGs are getting them I noticed. Also, it seems like NICE bus is about to get $18 million in funding according to transit magazine. Some of that money will be used to purchase 23 new CNG buses (likely more Xcelsiors though it is not clear if they will be more XN40s, XN60s, or a mix of both).
