You know what? Forget 2 Av …

2 Av is taking forever and it’s very flawed…

Why not focus on QueensLink? The infrastructure is already there, just needs reactivation. Thus I would do this:

    (Qorange)  Far Rockaway - Brighton Beach: RBB line - QBL Local - 63rd - 6 Av/Brighton Express

    (R) Rockaway Pk - 95 St: RBB line - QBL Local - 60th - Bway/4 Av Express stopping at 45 and 53 Sts.

Rockaway Blvd would be rebuilt to connect (A) at Lefferts Platform,  (Qorange)(R)  at lower level RBB platform.

Aside from this I have other ideas I won’t disclose because let’s stay on topic regarding which lines should go to Lefferts and Rockaways and if 2 Av is really necessary…

    I'd do it this way.

    (A) as is to Far Rockaway for the Brooklyn Connection

    (M)-Metropolitan Ave-Rockaway Pk.

    (G)(R)-QBL Local to 71st Ave

(X)- Howard Beach/JFK- 161 Yankee Stadium, via. RBB, Junction Blvd-LGA, Rikers Island, 161st Street. This line would connect with the (7)<7> at Junction Blvd, LGA Airport, any new Rikers Island development once the jail closes, Hunts Point Ave (6)<6>, Intervale Ave (2)(5), and Yankee Stadium (B)(D)(4).

Like an East River loop route? Not sure if anyone is incentivized to take the (G) when you can just take... almost any East River route for faster service.

This route only benefits you if you need to go from East Harlem to Clinton Hill/Bed-Stuy. There's better routes.

South Ferry doesn't need more trains considering the fact that 5 lines are already in the area, I think Brooklyn is the best route for the SAS

If there's money for a new tunnel, that is

Accidentally hit send before I finished, resuming:

    (T) would run eventually from 125/Lenox or further west to Euclid Avenue, extended overnights to Lefferts Boulevard.  This would run via a new Remsen Street tunnel from likely Hanover Square, which would in Brooklyn have a stop around Court Street that would include transfers to the (2) (3) (4) (5) and current (R) ((N) late nights) and as I would eventually have it my version of the <R> and "Yellow (V)" at Court.  I would be looking to build this to at least Chatham Square even ahead of Phase 3 to it at least is running to lower Manhattan.  It would then come in on the unused local track at Hoyt-Schermerhorn and run as the Fulton Local.  In Manhattan, Seaport if possible also a transfer point between the (T) and all trains in the Fulton complex,

    (A) and (C) would both run express on Fulton at all times ((C) except late nights) to Lefferts (as noted replaced by the (T) late nights) while the (A) is on a 4/3 split between Far Rockaway and Rockaway Park with either the (S) only operating late nights from Broad Channel-Rockaway Park OR the (A) running as a 6 TPH line late nights, equally split between Far Rockaway and Rockaway Park so one of the two branches runs every 20 minutes.

In the suggestion I proposed, Montague would only have two services, <R> and (W). No need for anything else. (T) can end in Hanover Sq or be extended to South Ferry for transit connections.

Yes. Many many MANY times. If you REALLY want to do that, have your <R> run from Bay Ridge-Broadway Junction, and then have the real (R) (which we will call (W)) run from Astoria-Euclid Ave. Save the cost of building a whole new tunnel.

And leave 2nd Ave as is, with an extension from Hanover Sq to South Ferry

Not the way I would do it because of the other thing I would do, move the <R> to Nassau and make it brown (doing the necessary work to re-open the former northbound platforms at Cana Street and Bowery) that I have noted many times elsewhere.

This is a good way to do it.  Mine is similar except it would go under Schermerhorn Street on a level lower than the Transit Museum (with potentially a stop near Court Street below the Transit Museum) and then ram up to connect to the existing unused tracks near Hoyt-Schermerhorn and then operate as the Fulton Street Local to Euclid (extended late nights to Lefferts to replace the late-night (S) there.  This would allow the (A) and (C) to both operate as Fulton Express trains with the (C) replacing the (A) to Lefferts and the (A) likely on a 4-3 split between Far Rockaway and Rockaway Park, eliminating the need for the Rockaway Park (H)/(S) except perhaps late nights or late nights with the (A) using the old round-robin route to cover both Far Rockaway and Rockaway Park.

Going under Remsen Street likely makes more sense if it allows for transfers to the (2) (3) (4) (5) and (R) ((N) late nights) at Borough Hall from such as new line).  It would serve the same purpose as my plan as it would allow the (A) and (C) to both run as Fulton express lines at all times ( (C) except late nights with the (T) to Lefferts at those times).

Or just connect Fulton Local to Montague. There's spare capacity anyway.

your suggestions have a habit of working on the principle most people call “robbing Peter to pay Paul”… taking service away from people who use it in favor of giving more service to areas that do not and routes that people do not take.

SAS does not need two services. If the SAS passengers want 6th Ave service, they can change trains for the F across the platform once service restarts.

But you don’t live there NOW… you haven’t lived there for years… decades even at this point IIRC… so why should you be taken as an authority on a subject when your information isn’t even from this century…

On weekends, there's no harm no foul with this plan, though more crews would be needed. The (M) doesn't go to Queens weekends anyway. It would actually provide expanded service.

  9. Or here's another plan (that actually might operationally work better than the current plan):

(A)-207th St-Far Rockaway, via 8th/Fulton EXP (no lefferts service)

    (B)-Brighton Beach-Jamaica Ctr, via. Brighton/6th/63rd/QBL EXP

    (C)-205th St-Lefferts Blvd, via Concourse LCL/8th EXP/Fulton LCL

    (D)-145th/BPB-Coney Is.

(E)-168th St- Coney Is, via. 8th LCL/Culver LCL, switching at W4.

    (F)-Jamaica 179th-WTC, via 6th Ave LCL, switches to 8th after West 4th

(G)-Extended to Forest Hills via. QBL Local

(J)-Broad St-Jamaica Center. Express in peak direction between Marcy Ave and Broadway Jct.

    <M>-Metropolitan Ave-Chambers St.

    (N)-unchanged

    (Q)-unchanged

    (R)-Bay Pkwy-Forest Hills, via. West End/4th Ave/Bway/QBL LCL

    (W)-unchanged

(Z)- Bay Ridge- Broadway Junction via. 4th Lcl/Nassau LCL

The MTA has been running the (E) via 63 St, (M) to Chambers St, and the (R) on it's own at Queens Plaza for the past few Christmas weeks already. Is it going to suck? Yes, but it's still 100% better than the other proposal dragging the (G) into this mess especially under your proposal having the (R) run QBL Express.

It’s not any worse than the (M) switching at Queens Plaza

    I have a few questions:

    • Huh?!
    • How does this solve anything?
    • Why?!

Running the (M) with the (F) is one thing, at least there's one less merge to deal with in this scenario. However, having the (R) run express along QBL while the (G) is running around too just creates the same exact problem where the (R) would need to split and cut off the (G) while merging with the (F) along with the (M) cutting off the (G) in the process. QBL is somehow just as bad if not worse than the current setup, there's no extra service being provided in this scenario.

Remember, this assumes a complete shutdown of 53rd, meaning only the (G) and (R) would be serving Queens Plaza.

  12. 1 minute ago, TDL said:

You would have to have (G)(R) serve QBL, (R) express, (G) local. If they wanted to send the (W) along with the (R) to Forest Hills they could but that would cause staffing issues since the (W) is a glorified (N). The (F) would run as normal.

And the (M) could run on 63rd. So in total

    (M)-QBL Local/ 63rd

    (G)-QBL Local/Crosstown

    (F)-QBL express/63rd

    (R)-QBL express/Broadway

If there is a months-long closure of 53rd St like 63rd St, I wonder what the service pattern would be. I don't think there's capacity for (E)(F) and (M) trains via 6th Av/63rd St alone. And you can't have (M) trains detour to 8th Av and terminate somewhere in midtown on weekdays like the current setup at 57th St. Maybe just not have the (M) run in midtown at all and compensate 8th Av with some extra (C) trains terminating at 2nd Av.

You would have to have (G)(R) serve QBL, (R) express, (G) local. If they wanted to send the (W) along with the (R) to Forest Hills they could but that would cause staffing issues since the (W) is a glorified (N). The (F) would run as normal.

This has too many points of failure with the switches.

If it must go past Essex, it must go to 57th, 96th, or 145th.

Heres how I’d run things on weekday AND weekend

    (B)-Brighton Beach-Forest Hills via. Brighton Express/6th Ave Express/63rd St/QBL Local

    (C)-Lefferts Blvd-Forest Hills, via, Fulton LCL/8th EXP/QBL Local
    (E)-unchanged

    (K)-Metropolitan Ave-145th St/BPB via 8th Ave LCL

    (A)-unchanged

(H)-Rockaway Pk-190th St. Stops at 155th St and 163rd St.

(J)-unchanged. Skip stop service eliminated. Express in peak direction between Marcy Ave and Broadway Jct.

    (Z)-Broadway Junction-Bay Ridge.

I believe before the express tunnel was built, West 4th used to terminate trains on the "express" tracks.  I would think they could use some of the mezzanine at West 4th as crew quarters if necessary if W4 began terminating the (M) on weekends.

And you could also do it where the (D) remains express on 6th Avenue with if a(D) train gets to Broadway-Lafayette at the same time as an (M), the (D) goes through first and then the (M) crosses over to terminate at West 4th,  This again is about providing additional transfer points off the (M) to other lines on weekends.  The two extra stops on the (M) provide this to those riders.

This has too many points of failure with the switches.

    (E)-unchanged

    (K)-Metropolitan Ave-145th St/BPB via 8th Ave LCL

    (A)-unchanged

(H)-Rockaway Pk-190th St. Stops at 155th St and 163rd St.

Sorry, should have mentioned. I just assumed everybody knew that detail already.

I will say that I've seen the debut of every car from 160 on and the fanfare the Ts got was nothing I've ever seen. People not only impressed, but COMPLIMENTING the MTA for putting our money to the right stuff and asking for MORE.

(All options better be Ts. The public, from what I saw in EIGHT HOURS, want them)

Smiles, pictures, people testing the gangways and re-learning the art of balance. It felt amazing to be a railfan yesterday. A feeling I haven't felt since.....the first time I got to ride the ToMC? I can't even remember the last time I was on a train, or even in the system, for that long.

Normally, I'd say the future is bright, but I learned some shit yesterday that killed that for me.

    Just......yare yare......

Doubt it, especially with all of the hoops you gotta go through just to get to the ferry with that proposal.

Though there should be a Whitestone Ferry stop. You can literally see the Throgs Neck stop, so why nothing for Whitestone or College Point? The landing could be at that property at the end of 152nd St and 6th Road, where there could be a parking lot and a bus terminal stand.

Of course now, theres gonna need to be a "Faster Connections" service for the Soundview route since I'm sure once Rikers is gone they're gonna add a stop there.

In addition, I propose a new "Canarsie Route", running as follows:

    Canarsie Pier

    Rockaway

    Sheepshead Bay (Ocean Avenue)

Shore Acres (Staten Island-Von Briesen Pk at the foot of the VNB)

    Tompkinsville

Brooklyn Army Terminal (Rockaway route will now stop at Bay Ridge with a timed connection to the South Brooklyn route for the connection to BAT)

    Pier 11.

The simple answer is that they're trying to target a different demographic.

But just what is LIC the 2nd biggest CBD in this city in? As in, in terms of what? Square-footage? Number of jobs? Number of employers?

What I would honestly like to know about these ferries is, how far are the people that use them as part of their commute typically traveling to get to them.... Well that, and how many/what percentage are using buses and/or subways to get to them....

  19. Yes, there should be a GCT-Penn Station connection. Amtrak could use that more direct route when Metro-North needs Hell Gate for Penn Access.

Also, there should be some Cross-LI branches.

    I propose the following

    Elmont Branch

Branching off the New Haven Line by Co-Op City, this line would run via I-95/295, have a transfer opportunity in Queens Village, take over the Belmont Spur, and run along the CIP to meet the Babylon/Far Rockaway/Long Beach Branches at Rosedale, Valley Stream, and Lynbrook. Stations would be in Throgs Neck, Bayside Junction (new station with transfer to PW Branch), Cunningham Park, Holliswood, Queens Village, Belmont Park, Cambria Heights, Rosedale, Valley Stream, Lynbrook.

    Hempstead Tunnels/Garden City Branch

Three tunnels would be constructed to reconnect the Hempstead and West Hempstead Branches, to connect the Hempstead Branch with Mineola, and to connect the West Hempstead Branch with the Far Rockaway Branch.

This Garden City Branch would run from East Williston (end of Oyster Bay electrification), stop at Mineola, Country Life Press, Hempstead. West Hempstead, Hempstead Gardens, Lakeview, Malverne, Westwood, Brookside Junction (new station with transfer ops to Babylon and Long Beach branches), Gibson, Hewlett, Woodmere, Cedarhurst, Lawrence, Inwood, Far Rockaway. If the Oyster Bay branch is electrified it could be extended to Oyster Bay.

    Expanded Central Branch

A dedicated Central Branch Line should run as follows

Babylon, North Lindenhurst, Bethpage, Hicksville, Jericho, Brookville, Old Brookville, Sea Cliff

    Coram Branch

Port Jeff, Terryville Road, Coram, Yaphank, Shirley

Which is ludicrous. Jamaica to Bayside is $12.50 peak, and youre staying in Queens.

Honestly, City Ticket should be accepted on all Port Washington Branch local trains from ANY city station, there's literally only 4 stops in Nassau County. Conductors just have to do a sweep after Little Neck.

Same with say, Atlantic Terminal to Forest Hills or Far Rockaway to QV (all the trains do a sweep after Jamaica anyway so there shouldn't be any abuse here).
