  1. Anyone know what top pay is now after 6 years? I now it has increased since 2012

Sent from my SM-J320P using TapatalkType appreciate it. How was track school... Anything difficult about it... I've heard some people not passing..Just trying to figure out why

Haven't been to Track school in awhile but cant see it being difficult. Just show up on time and listen to your instructors and you'll be fine.

Here is a link to NYCTA pay scales

  2. Seems like some of these people are miserable with there jobs..

Yep, get use to it. Almost everyone at Livingston St are rude, nasty and miserable. Kinda like the employees at motor vehicles but worse. This includes doctors, lab techs, and receptionists. TA hires bottom of the barrel people for these positions, especially the doctors and techs. They're borderline incompetent. I'm not kidding. Luckily, you only have to go down there once a year for a semi medical once you're hired.

  3. And with no disrespect what so ever, can someone please explain to me what is so good about being in a class with higher seniority number? The way I see it, everyone in the class after next will have lower seniority numbers than EVERYONE from this upcoming September class; so what's the benefit of me having the highest seniority number in my class? (or 2nd highest maybe, Thomas will likely be first)

Yes, everyone in the Sept class will have a lower seniority # than you and always will. The benefit of being first or second in your class is when you pick in school. There might be one job where the location, tour and rdo's all work well for you. Being first you can pick that job and not worry about someone else taking it. You get first pick of all the jobs available for your class. It makes the

    pick a little less stressful

  4. Sigh, unbelievable. I've heard people talk on this forum about finding out they are going in to "so and so" class a week before it starts. But this class that I was supposed to be in, gets filled over a month before it starts. And this was the 5th class this year right? Previous years have had 4 classes per year. This will almost surely be the last class of this year. And who knows how far in to 2017 for the next class. But oh yeah, I really look forward to being the most senior person in the next class......

It's still possible you could be added to the next class so straighten out your medical hold and see what happens. If not you'll be first in your class for the next one (which is a good thing). You're going to get hired, stop whining...

I saw somewhere on this thread someone stating that by federal law the MTA has to have 2000 track workers hired. Are you sure you are not getting this mixed up? If not, can you please provide the source of this information?

This has been hearsay for years. Cant say if it's true or not

  5. I must say there is a lot of discouraging and mixed information in this forum... Info is all over the place... Best think is to forget about this list and keep your info updated... This forum should be used with facts and not guesses or opinions... Just my point of view..Happy holidays

If you want facts go back and read all my posts on this thread. I'm a Trackworker with over 22 years on the job. I usually chime in here to either correct someone or add my educated opinion on a specific topic. Btw, riello2u,with your list number you will be called. It's just a question of when...
  6. I recently had a discussion with a friend of mine who is in track, and he pretty much informed that those rumors of people retiring from track, were just that. Rumors. No one is going anywhere. It's pretty much a fact that most guys are even planning on trying to work as much as they can past retirement age even. No one is willing to leave a well paying job with exemplary benefits due to the super exorbitant cost of living in NYC. You have retirees that are pushing the envelope in order to make ends meet. This seems to be pretty accurate because this list is definitely moving as slow as molasses. The best piece of advice that I have given myself is to make sure that my contact info is accurate and to totally forget about this position because the chances of landing it are very dim.

This is pretty much true. There is no, or ever was, a mass exodus from Track Dept. The only way to get the eligible senior guys to leave in large numbers would be some type of buyout or incentive. I've been in the Track Dept for many years and have never seen one offered. That said, the list will move as it always does. Be patient
  7. Not sure. Being written up while on probation is not a good thing to say the least. While on probation you don't have much protection. The TA can basically fire you for anything. Don't know why you weren't warned first, especially being on probation. So, Transit will probably do 1 of 3 things with you: 1) You pass probation 2) They extend your probation 3) They fire you. In the meantime I would consult with a union rep and ask their advice on your situation. Good luck

  8. That's correct! When I went through the Bus Operator Training Program in February of 2014 (and failed), I was placed into Tier 6, which is 10/63 so things might have changed. Perhaps a rookie employee can elaborate more on this...

    Thanks in advance.

Anyone hired after 4/01/12 at NYCTA is in Tier 6. Tier 6 is a 25/55 pension just like Tier 4(I'm in Tier 4). The big difference between Transit Tier 4 and Transit Tier 6 is Tier 4 employees pay a fixed 2% (of their gross) into their pensions, whereas Tier 6 members pay on a sliding scale anywhere between 3% and 6% (of their gross) depending on how much money they make(scale is 45k to 100k+). 10/63 are the vesting requirements for Tier 6. This means that if you resign/retire anytime after 10 years of service and you're not 55 yet you can freeze your pension pay and collect at age 63. Tier 4 vesting requirements are 5/62.

Both Tiers(4,6) must fulfill the time(25yrs)and age(at least 55 years old)requirements to collect their full benefits. If not, they revert to 10/63 and 5/62 respectively.

Btw, medical benefits do not carry over with 10/63 and 5/62 pensions, just the accumulated pay.

  9. I understand 100% where you are coming from, but I thought that the latest retirement plan with NYCERS is 10/63, which means either 10 years on the job or until you turn 63 years of age, whichever comes first?

All NYCTA hourly jobs are 25/55(tier4 and tier6). 10/63 sounds like vesting time(10) and collecting age(63)

  10. FYI ALWAYS treat that 3rd rail as if its live! ALWAYS! and stay on point on those tracks those trains are unforgiving! When i went for flagging i seen seasoned guys do some dangerous things. And i pray i never get that comfortable. Be safe out there!!

What type dangerous things did you see?
  11. I wouldn't worry too much about working out. If you've never done it before you're likely to hurt yourself before you even start the job, lol. Stretching before the job starts isn't a bad idea. Just know your limitations, lift what you can(properly)and work at your own pace and you'll be fine. The men and women on this job come in all shapes and sizes. Some can lift a lot, most can't(or won't). Concentrate more on your surroundings, and always be aware of the 3rd rail and trains.

  12. My uncle told me if you work for MTA and your sick it's better to go to work so they will send you home. Is that true or if your really sick call in sick instead?

If you're really sick stay home. If youre on probation bring in doctors lines. No sense in potentially getting sicker at work. Your co workers don't want to be subjected to whatever it is you have either...

  13. Thanks for the info, what shifts do they have for track worker?

    6am - 2pm(linden shop) 7am - 3pm(linden shop, ERT) 8am - 4pm(maintenance days, capital days) 3pm - 11pm(ERT) 3:30pm - 11:30pm(work trains) 10pm - 6am(maintenance nights, capital nights) 11pm - 7am(maintenance nights). These are all the tours(shifts)for track workers.
  14. For anyone already on the job what time did training start and are there different times for classes? Also once you are established and increased seniority can you pick your shift and is there a 4 p.m to midnight shift available. Thanks in advance for any input

I think school(training)is from 7am - 3pm, Mon - Fri. As far as I know this is the only time and days they hold classes. Someone who has been through it recently can verify this. There are no 4pm - 11pm shifts. There are some 3pm - 11pm tours in ERT(emergency response team)and a few 3:30pm -11:30pm jobs in work trains. Getting a CDL will help with getting some of those jobs.

  15. Some conductors were being processed and some trackworkers but not from our list. Apparently transit is hiring a bunch of trackworkers for a division that is seperate from where trackworkers on the 3600 list will serve if there is such a thing. I know for sure they weren't on our list and won't affect us being hired in any way.

If they're not from the 3600 list then they are off an in house promotional list.
  16. By the way, track workers have to wear hard hats. The color of the hat will determine the title of the wearer.

All Track Workers wear a blue hard hat. The newer hard hats that came out a few years ago are baby blue and a different design than the older ones. That's the one the new/newer guys are assigned.
