Keep your ISO at 400 or 800 in the subway. The more ISO, the more grainy your pictures get so if your pictures look too grainy at 800 ISO then use 400 ISO. As for white balance it depends on the station. Use the setting that makes the picture look accurate in the LCD. You don't want really warm colors at a station like Broadway - Lafayette ( when the light is very cool.
but then with the low ISO you will get darker and more blurry shots. I would prefer grainy shots that are sharp versus dark and blurry shots.

What is your budget?

You should know better than to trust the meter all of the time. Hell, you still have my book that tells you to always second-guess the meter.
I'm well aware

Depends on what the good ol' light meter says.

Of course not. There are many routes that are more detailed than the NYCT routes. Take into example NWM and the future Birmingham Cross City South route.
There is this London underground route that looks nice.

They run them on sundays in the summer on that line
Perfect!

Okay, I'll explain how it works step by step.
1) You'd have to check the exam listing. One test occurs about every 5 years. The link is below:
http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcas/html/employment/examschedule.shtml
2) Apply for the exam with the instructions they give you. You will have to pay $40 or so to take that exam.
3) You will receive an admission card in the mail a few days before the exam date.
4) Go take the exam.
5) Within a month to a year, you will receive your list number and exam score. You'll have to wait to be called. You will have an interview, a medical exam/screening, and something else I keep forgetting...
Side Note: Having connections with an MTA employee will not get you in the MTA whatsoever.
Don't forget about the CDL. Also ciboii22, your questions have been answered before, so please cease asking the same thing over and over again. http://www.nyctransitforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15234

I only rode the TTC for a few short days but it's grown on me. Can't wait to head back up to Toronto.

Man, Looks like I need to head up back to Toronto to catch those cars. Are they only doing it on a limited time basis? or are they going to run on that line until further notice?

So all the pics went flying in the air?
Yup. So I've just been too lazy to re-upload everything.

Thanks. What happened to yours?
Forgot to renew it.

Look guys, honestly, all I need is a reliable host with my own domain so I'll have to decide what to choose from... no servers or anything like that, it's just for pictures, nothing more.
SmugMug.com

You can use your own domain with their pro level plan.
All of their plans allow for unlimited storage and bandwidth. the pro plan allows you to customize your site and use your own domain.

If you have an old desktop and are willing to convert to a server, you can manage it right from home without it costing you a dime. (Except the hdd is that needs upgrading)
If not, you can always go with webhosting plans, (I use Hosting24) where you can just install gallery software and manage your pics from there.
Servers are no permitted on most residential broadband connections.
@PaulP. go with smugmug.com

For that price I would go with the Nikon D40.

I'm getting ready to subscribe for $25 a year to get unlimited bandwidth. I don't know what else I could use $25 in one year!
Flick3r.

how about Cloudy White Balanced Mode for the underground shots?
Colors won't be right. Don't use the wrong presets.

Do J&R can't beat their prices & excellent service!

Issue is that while J&R does pricematch, they do are more strict in returns compared to B&H even though B&H is a bit more.

For many people, medium format is a solution in search of a problem. I will admit however that one day while toying with my FG, I instinctively went for the nonexistent "Preview" button after firing the shutter. B)

He should get a medium format camera. "How do I preview my shot?" B)

Well the first thing you should do then is go to B&H or J&R and go try them out in person, see how they fit in your hand, the weight of the camera. Then you can start narrowing down models, after all, if you're going to be shooting all day, you need to be comfortable with the camera.

No love for canon?
Canons from what I've seen are mostly used more by those into Sports photography. Plus, from when I was looking into my first DSLR, the Canons were generally more expensive. Harry would be better in knowing about Canons since he used to have one.

For that price, get the Nikon D90. Nikon makes top notch DSLR cameras and their Nikkor line of lenses are amazing. I think UrbanFortitude, Joe, Harry, BrightonLocal, Fred G and I all shoot with Nikon DSLRs and I'm certain they would all agree that Nikon is the best bang for your buck when it comes to DSLRs.

Next time you come up to BERA and if I'm going too, bring your laptop and I'll get it working.

My suggestion is to save up and get a DSLR.

What does megapixels have to do with ISO? My D40 has no problems doing ISO 1600 without too much noise.
