  1. 370 (7211-7580) R142A's will be converted. Prior to conversion, the 6  line had 450 R142's for service so after conversion is complete, there should still be 8 train sets of R142's on the 6.

I believe the 6 may have had 460 R 142A's (the 4 train having the other 140 or 150 cars) prior to the first sets being converted meaning 9 train sets of 142A's should run once all conversions are done.

  2.

So then does that mean that the 6 will have R142A's and R62's? How much longer till they convert all the R142A's into R188's? And last, will they ever fully restore the 6 lines R142A's again?

  3. One pair survives. 3594-3595 at Floyd Bennet Field. The R32GEs were the most unique cars I've ever layed eyes on. It sad they didn't continue service, but it is what it is.

I am just curious - what was so unique about the R32GE's. I have been a regular E train rider for years so I know the R32's quite well from the days when only R32's ran on the E line. Jam yard had about 400 R32's in its heyday so I am sure I have ridden the R32GE's.

  4. Definitely a poorly produced segment when you consider that the R46's are only some 12 years or so newer on average (midpoint of delivery schedule) than the R32's and the C actually runs R46's in summer months. I agree the better comparison would be between the C and E trains. The C is bad because it runs only 8 cars (for no reason, unlike the J, L & M whose platforms cannot accomodate trains longer than 8cars) which causes overcrowding the 1st and last car at times, only runs R32's (aside from the summer months) and is the only line to run the R32's. The E ran only R32's up until almost 4 years ago as R40's and R42's started to appear in mid 2008 with R160's coming in late 2008 with the line all R160 by mid 2009. Unlike years ago when many types of cars ran on any 1 line, most lines run only 1 type of train today. Of course keep in mind the R160's retired fully R38's, R40's (slants and M's), R42's and R44's so that the system has fewer types of cars now than it had prior to 2000 when NTT;s first came on the seen.

  5. Everyone is different, you have your loves and everyone else has their loves. And from someone who drives buses and has worked on buses, no two buses are alike. There is always something different from 8798 having a transmission that pulls back into 2nd gear to 5156's Allison sounding like its on meth to 5098 sounding like a Jersey METRO D at speed and so on.

So how can you say something like that. Everyone loves this hobby on a different level and each level needs to be respected.

Me personally, I'm a big Orion 1 and Flx METRO nut, not ashamed to admit I go crazy on a good Orion 1 or Flx Metro ride, but overall I go crazy on a good ride period, even on a Hybrid if it gives me everything I enjoy about a bus.

BTW here is your Orion 5 on a ENY Route...

What is the number of that bus?
