  1. I had a weird dream overnight (among other things lol). I saw two MTA Bus OG's (One of them being #3611) & the third bus was an old TMC RTS #8374. By the I saw that bus the nostagia came back to me. Reminds me of how I'll miss the old guard. *sighs*:(

Also I gotta admit it was kinda weird to see (MTA) Bus equipment around my hood although BP's Buses aren't uncommon being around.

  2. What caused that big bus shortage back in 2007 anyway? Were buses retired without replacements? I remember seeing MTA bus 1990 and 1991 TMCs at Flatbush and NYCT units at Spring creek.

    1. The (MTA) retired one too many buses simultaneously causing a shortage in the reserve fleet. Including a good amount of buses going for rehabs & whatnot.

    2. It appeared that the increase of service was needed at the time with the sudden increase of ridership.

Everything else is pretty much in this thread: http://www.nyctransitforums.com/forums/topic/2885-bus-shortage-affecting-service/

  3. Nice trip on the Q30 as I type this. Apparently the bus is basically stuck on delay among the others around. The hill going down Hillside Av is too slippery to go down. Looks like I have to walk. Not that it's a complete b**** to as I'm a walker myself but still in this weather...:(

  4. Service Change Posted: 10/12/2012 4:18PM

Due to signal problems at Nostrand Av:

Some Downtown a.png and c.png trains are terminating at World Trade Center, Jay St and 2 Av.

Uptown a.png and c.png trains are terminating at Broadway Junction.

Please expect delays in a.png and c.png train service at this time.

Unfortunately, I was a Victim of this too. The (E) Train I was on took 20 minutes to WTC waiting at each stop every 5-10 minutes starting at 23rd Street. Luckily it better by Canal St. I have to assume that was another train (Likely the C) before us because the train traffic announcement went off a few times. Things were slug on 8th Avenue (at least on my end). At least it ended when it did thankfully.

  5. The end of the RTS is the Bronx once again.....I wonder if this is truly the end since WF is pretty much set on buses and no longer need to borrow RTS from storage...

I never really understood why ECH switched from O5's to RTS to begin with....and now their back to O5's

They switched so that the '99 Orion V could go to CS to replace the older Orion's they had (5XX-630). As the '96 RTS from ENY & JA were up for grabs after being deplaced by the newer buses at the time OG's (6558-6624) from GA to ENY & NG (4431-4452) to JA (I think).

Anyway for the ECH RTS's I suspect they'll be moved to storage and another few to LGA/JFK.

  6. I'm back with a few more ideas:

Q17: I've also happened to notice some Northbound PM LTD's little under half full but I wouldn't eliminate them completely. Instead I'd just reduce the frequency to 9-10 min.

Q26/27: Short turn a small few Q27's to/from the Q26's path to eliminate retire/replace the route altogether (peak directions only during Rush Hours only).

Q46: Extend time frame of Westbound AM LTD's up 'til ending at 9:15. As for the PM there'll be LTD's (Westbound) at 2:30-6:00 PM. (sorry still had to mention this ;).

Q77: Extend to 147 Av better connect with Q111 & Q113 as folks don't have to walk to 145th to catch the bus.

Q83: Re-extend to it's original terminal at QV LIRR to better ridership along the Cambria Heights area.

  7. Randomest thought i've seen in this thread... ;)

Anyway, what will happen to the buses that lose the BT&E that are currently in the fleet? Will we keep them, or will they be sent back?

Those buses will maintain their spot in the bus fleet. The (MTA) after all did purchase the buses.

  8. I have a couple of ideas:

Q3: Limited Stop Service from JFK to 165 Street Terminal.

As a couple of others said a Q3 LTD isn't nessceary as proposed this too. Besides the frequency not being there also there's the on & off crowds via the amount there is ready for when each bus comes. This is one of the reasons this route bunches the way it does.

Q111: Trips to Cedarhurst Eliminated, Trips to LIRR Rosedale via Francis Lewis Blvd.

Not all LIRR Rosedale trips are needed. Most yes, but all no. Ridership isn't that heavy to warrant all Rosedale bound trips only.

Q114: Jamaica LIRR to Far Rockaway Mott Avenue Station via Rockaway Blvd and Sutphin Blvd.

    Nah, no comment here.

  9. What I don't get is why they're sending old RTSes to QV when that depot has been plagued by A/C problems during the summer with its old fleet, and only recently got rid of all the 1996s. Doesn't make sense to me, and it annoys me for ENY to lose any RTSes...any chance these are loaners due to the OG overhauls?

Yeah i don't get it also they had about 60-70 1996 RTS's and now they are gaining them back. They might as well kept them there.

If fleet age is a concern here then it's not all that bad. As long as QV only a small amount of '96 RTS then the overall fleet age isn't all that old as long as we less 15+year old buses. The question I have is whether these had corresponding QV stickers or not. They could be loaners to make way for the OG's to have their GOH's and/or because they lost another 96XX (which I think is a possiblity also).

When the School years ends QV most likely won't need those 96 RTSs, as there's no school trippers, lower ridership etc, I know one summer the 8600 RTS @ ENY was stored under the (M) train EL @ Fresh Pond Depot until September.

I think such a occurence of a move is possible too. It would better the age of the fleet if QV is down to having 1997-1998 RTS left to being the eldest fleet. Then again they may also lose a short few of those RTS from that year batch as well. We'll see when the time comes.

  10. This past friday I got myself a ride with #9366. This time however I happened to discover that thing gets stuck in high lockup. I believe the B/O tried to get it in 3rd gear but to no avail. The same goes for #9557 which I took the day before. I gots me two WTF rides this week! I have to wonder though what's happening w/QV mainteance if it's a factor of these transmissions acting up.

  11. Speaking of Farebeating, I inadvertently let a farebater board the rear of the Q31 bus I was getting off of. My first time causing that. Inches apart there was a guy ranting/mubbling about what had transpired, kinda of funny although I couldn't make out all off what he said except for hearing him say "idiot" (Which I agreed). Regardless more Anti-Beating enforcements hopefully should make it to Queens sometime soon. It was worst enough that it increased on my home line the Q83. 6-7 farebeaters got on with little to no problem at all. BTW this occurs on 153rd St. This has been an issue for a while now & it's getting out of control as I'm talking about in other places as well.
