gregorygrice Posted January 21, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 21, 2010 I see in alot of pictures of the R160 that the circle around the letter is not always a full circle. I think this is because the part-circle is spinning. What is the point/reason for this?
Y2Julio Posted January 21, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 21, 2010 It has to do with shutter speeds on the camera.
Joe Posted January 21, 2010 Share #3 Posted January 21, 2010 The front sign requires somewhere around 1/125th of a second to fully refresh. Lets say you take two photos of an R160 front...one with a shutter speed of 1/60th of a second; another at a shutter speed of 1/500th of a second. Since 1/500th of a second is shorter than 1/125th of a second, you will only capture part of the displays refresh (if you even capture any at all). However, seeing as 1/60th of a second is longer than 1/125th of a second, you will be able to capture an entire refresh of the sign.

Joe Posted January 21, 2010 Share #5 Posted January 21, 2010 If you were to watch the sign with a camera that had an extremely high frame rate, it might appear as if the circle is "spinning". However, to the human eye, it is persistent.
