Track deaths spur reforms

A year after two trackmen were run over and killed by subway trains within days of each other, safety has improved - but supervisors and workers still sometimes cut corners and take risks, top union and transit officials say.

 

Transport Workers Union Local 100 President Roger Toussaint and NYC Transit President Howard Roberts said a union-management task force has significantly tightened safety regulations and protocols following the deaths of Danny Boggs and Marvin Franklin last April. But there's still a "culture" of taking dangerous shortcuts known to track crews as "get it and go," Toussaint said.
