New MTA LIRR Getaway Goes to Long Island's "Riviera" July 28

A new MTA Long Island Rail Road getaway travels to the area formerly known as Long Island's Riviera. The "Southampton Escape" Getaway on Saturday, July 28, begins with a bus ride that winds through the Southampton Estates section on the way to the first stop at St. Andrew's Dune Church, the only Long Island church situated on the bluffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The church's unusual architecture is complemented by its Tiffany-designed windows.

 

The next stop is the Southampton Historical Museum. Its artifacts and documents bring to life the traditions of Long Island's South Fork. Well-informed guides can provide ideas where to go in town for lunch and leisure. While in town participants can visit the Parrish Art Museum, included in the price of the tour, where prominent local artists have their works on display. There are special exhibits as well as peaceful shaded gardens. The cost is $38 for adults, $30 for children 5-11.

Tickets for the Getaways (escorted and non-escorted) can be purchased in advance at the LIRR's gray, full-service ticket machines using cash, credit and ATM/debit cards. Select "Getaways & Packages," then "One Day Getaways" followed by the tour or package of your choice. Tickets can be purchased up to midnight on Thursday of the week of the tour. LIRR ticket offices currently accept cash or personal checks only.

 

Tickets go on sale seven days before each trip and can be purchased up to 30 minutes before the train leaves at staffed ticket offices and at ticket selling machines. Before then, customers can call the Sales & Promotions Office at 718-558-7498 to pay by credit cards and have tickets mailed.
