VERNON TRANSIT PROJECT County and city pool funds and prepare to begin construction phase Westchester County and Mount Vernon officials inked an agreement today that will allow them to officially combine funds and move forward with a $3 million update of the city’s downtown transit hub. The agreement signed by County Executive Andy Spano and Mayor Ernie Davis means that the long-awaited renovation of Petrillo Plaza can go to bid this fall and construction should be underway by next spring. By 2009, rail and bus travelers as well as pedestrians should be walking through a safer and more attractive plaza and making use of new bus shelters that are larger and more comfortable.
