Pakenhamtrain Posted January 7, 2014 Share #1 Posted January 7, 2014 On Boxing day the traditional Boxing day test match begins at the MCG. This year it was the 4th Test of The Ashes series between Australia and England. A record crowd for any one day of cricket was broken with 91,112 people attending. It for all purposes a dead rubber with Australia taking a 3-0 lead in the 5 test series. Channel 9 do thier pre game report down by the pitch. The national anthems before the game. With Australia having won the toss and electing to field(much to the crowd's pleasure) they come out of the change rooms An early look of the stands. From the Members and Olympic stands.http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/3362/ux3s.jpgAnd the massive Great Southern Stand Between the Footy and the cricket the MCG installed new scoreboards at both ends of the ground.England went to Lunch at 1/71(read 1 for 71)http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/4741/qkee.jpg After Lunch the sun came out The benfit of the new scoreboards is they can now display and entire innings: On the Left is England's team. Like most sports with a bat the best batsmen are put towards the top of the order. You can divide it into sections. Openers, Top order, Middle order and lower order (tail). The lower order is where the specialist bowlers get to bat. While they're always the best with the bat they normally can pile on a few runs.On the right is the bowling card for Australia. An over is 6 legal balls. Watson has 6.4 overs bowled because of an injury that forced him to stop bowling. In situations like that another bowler finishes the over. And for the record Australia completed a 5-0 Whitewash of the series. Only the 3rd time in the history of the Ashes it's been done.
