DetSMART45 Posted December 30, 2016 Share #1 Posted December 30, 2016 A head-on crash Thursday morning closed Gratiot Av for hours, when a 23 year old plowed into a DDOT bus and died at the scene. The driver veered across at least 4 lanes of traffic (low level at 6:30am), and struck bus #1410 operating the 34--Gratiot route in the curb lane. The 2014 Xcelsior XD40 had significant damage to the front under the driver, however the 2003 Ford Escape was complete toast. Speed limit is around 35mph in the area, and Detroit Police are checking the deceased for drugs/alcohol.
