Earle Baldwin Posted November 20, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 20, 2008 "Northeast Action!" is a 57 minute DVD produced by Valhalla Video. It features material taped during the early 1990's for an earlier VHS version of the program and more recent footage taped during the last few years. Coverage extends from the northern end of Metro-North's Hudson Line across to its New Haven Line in Connecticut and down Amtrak's Northeast Corridor to Washington Union Station. A number of interesting operations are observed. A Conrail local freight is seen passing New Brunswick Station with units in push pull mode to speed industrial switching along the busy NEC. The X2000 which demonstrated during the early 90's appears several times. Perhaps the most unusual train on the program is Amtrak's "Crescent" which is being led into Washington by a Norfolk Southern high nose GP38 due to a problem with one of the Amtrak F40PH's. Now retired E60's make for an impressive sight as they thunder across the screen with impressive trains in tow. The camera work is steady, clarity is sharp and colors are vivid. At a price of $24.95, the DVD is a worthwhile investment for fans of contemporary passenger railroading. Regards, Earle
