  1. hello,

took this test a few years ago, was called in for pre-employment, rejected at the time

would like to reinstate my name

went to 180 Livingston to reinstate my name, was told to email some place, its been a week and still no response

awhile back i was able to look up my name on:

    https://data.cityofnewyork.us/City-Government/Civil-Service-List-Active-/vx8i-nprf/data#SaveAs

however, now my name or even the test 8604 does not appear to show up

i seem to remember that it was extended into 2023

is there anyone else i can call to figure out if list is still active and if my name is on it?

anyone have a number for DCAS?

    thank you!

    Hi Jake,

Sorry to bother you again. I have two question if you could please answer.

    1) Were the SPA questions related to general safety or electrical safety? If yes then is it a way to study them?

    2) Do you remember any of the questions? just to give an example.

Its general safety in a work environment.

I dont feel there is anything to study.

Cant give out precise questions.. imagine a picture shows a worker running with tools in hand, you'll say that it is unsafe for the worker to run. Etc.

Thank you so much. Did they give you the result straight away?? What happens next after answering 10 questions?

You will not get results right away. Have to wait for a pre-employment letter, usually just a few weeks after.

However you should be able to get a feel for how well you do. Just take your time, listen carefully. It's not a big deal at all.

    Hi Jake,

I have been called at 180 Livingston to give the SPA next week. Could you please guide me that exactly what are they gonna ask?

    Thank you

    Fatir

I will copy/paste my comment from the 8611 thread:

It's very simple. Instructor shows you 10 pictures and wants you to answer a safety related question about the scenario in each picture.

My one tip is to make sure to give only one answer, dont get nervous and start listing 2+ possible answers.. decide on a single most important fact and put it in a complete sentence.

Whole thing is over in 5-10 min.

On the job requirements it states

Four years of full-time experience as a helper in the electrical, electronic, or electromechanical

fields in the maintenance, repair, testing, construction or installation of

    electrical equipment; OR HIGH SCHOOL/GED

    What do you guys think?

if you have a HS/GED then its 3 years of experience instead of 4

Hey guys quick question. Does the posistion require a highschool diploma or ged? Do they ask for it when you go in or just experience?

They do ask for a HS diploma or a GED on the paperwork, though i don't remember them asking to see the actual document. In any case, i don't think you would want this to hang over your head. Try to get your GED asap.

@jake3178 I read you took the SPA--could you please share more details?  Much appreciated.

How are you liking signals Jake? Out of all the positions that is one I dont want to go haha

I like Signals, not sure I'd qualify for light or power anyway so I'm staying here, hopefully that permanent status is around the corner so I can do a year and go to signal maintainer school...

    What session was you jake?

Wow 95 your good ,i swear i was confident i did better then 82.5% ,test wasn't hard but I hope the protest helps

hehe thanks.. though you have to admit, it wasnt a hard test .. still, that clock forces you to move fast and i think thats why most people make mistakes

  10. For people who just took the 8611 transit electrical helper, I'd like to compare results with someone..

Sharing just the answers shouldn't be an issue... mods, please correct me if I'm wrong

I compared with a friend from the same classroom and 2 of our questions disagree

    First 3 are C, A, C ... last 3 are A, D, A. If someone has the same version, please msg me..

Reinstate? Like you’re able to take the position at a later time if you changed your mind? Could you elaborate?

the way I understand it, once you're on the list, you can decline the position and reinstate yourself later (takes 1-2 month) as long as the list is still active, which tends to be 4+ years. also you won't lose your list number / seniority, however you'll be behind people who already started.. I think.

so it's good to know i have an option going forward.

  12. also received a letter to come in on April 2nd for pre-employment, my list number is in low 100s

I'll be passing on this position since I already work for transit in signals, but it's good to know I can go back to it in the next 4 years

p.s. i enjoyed reading the opening line "MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) is considering you for a probable permanent position as a Conductor..."

    Salary: 22.1446

  13. its been a long wait, my official list number is better than 120. crazy huh.

though i was already hired for another title a few months ago, so thats one extra position for you guys lol

question 1: if this list is "established", does that mean i also passed the OPA? or will that list be modified as results start coming in

question 2: once they call me for Conductor, can i ask them to skip me in case i want to change my mind in the next 4 years.. how do i do that officially

thank you to whoever posted the link and also for possibly answering my questions =)

So I went to the protest session today. Out of the 20 questions I got wrong, I was able to submit a protest for 12 of them. Some of them were obvious, and for the ones I was not able to submit a protest for, it was human error.

    We'll see what happens....

thank you from those of us who didnt go

Hey guys how strict are they about that communication test and how hard is it because they way they were saying it was like it' the end of the world I know it' important but is it as hard as they make it out to be or do they add some hype to work up your nerves

oh boi, here we go, why not talk to one of us a class ahead.. you'll have much more freedom to walk around in the coming days so you can ask all your "silly" questions lol jk... we didn't have anyone to ask and we were stressed
