I never took a safety proficiency assessment as yet, I took the Practical for Signal Maintainer in april 2017 and received a letter to come in which was OCT 2017, so basically the way you got in was with a resume ? never took a written or practical as yet? or they want with your education and experience only?
correct, education and experience test plus a safety proficiency assessment as described in NOE http://web.mta.info/nyct/hr/pdf_exams/7609.pdf

Congrats. Nice we will be in the same class.
They take two pictures. One in that room for your pass and another when you get fingerprinted. That fingerprint/picture lady is mad cool.
I should have indicated that i was sworn in for electrical helper provisional, not track worker. Just answering a question about the process.

Orientation starts November 27th
Btw The fingerprint worker took a photo of me as well is this not the photo I need? Guess I'm going have to go back in to take a photo
Fingerprint person takes a separate photo as part of the fingerprinting process. Photo for a pass is taken right before in a separate room.
I was sworn in when the HR? lady looked over my 21 page booklet in detail (alone with me in an office) and also added my info into her computer.

Yes, this provisional title counts towards exerience in the requirements for 8 promotional paths. You will be encouraged to take both open competitive and promotional tests for the any of the 8 paths.
Also, do not be afraid of the temporary prefix. You will always be on probation, the past has taught us that employees can be furloughed at any time. Use the opportunity you afforded yourself as best you can.
Edit - I use "probation" metaphorically. We will always be judged by the public, and with the current state of transit, you will be blamed because the Triboro Bridge has a pot hole that ruined someone's suspension.
Thanks for the reply. The only thing is i don't think we'll be allowed to take promotional exams, every NOE i've read said its not for provisionals.
For example: http://web.mta.info/nyct/hr/pdf_exams/7700.pdf
ELIGIBILITY TO TAKE EXAMINATION
This examination is open to each employee of MTA New York City Transit who on the first date of the practical skills test:
1. Is permanently (not provisionally) employed in or appears on a Preferred List (see note, below) for the title of Transit Electrical Helper (working in the Signal Maintenance Group of the Division of Maintenance of Way) and has been permanently employed in such title for not less than one year; or
2. Is or has been employed in the non-competitive title of Transit Electrical Apprentice and has satisfactorily completed the 3-year Transit Electrical Apprentice program in signal maintenance and is employed in the Division of Maintenance of Way; and
3. Is not otherwise ineligible.0 -
Are any of you guys nervous that this is a temporary / provisional position only, even next electrical helper is "education and experience" test and not a multiple choice test.
How do we ever become permanent?
Also, while working this provisional title, can we put it down as experience for other titles? Especially permanent open-competitive titles in the future?

Thank you. Going for final processing tomorrow? Make sure you have your 21 page booklet filled out, they will check it.
Bring a blue pen for pension documents.
Bring your original despositions for any criminal/traffic stuff.
Process was actually pretty straight forward. Good luck.

Passed medical, completed final processing, was sworn in, guess I work for the city now. Hooray.
Now, what does temporary or provisional means? Do these terms means the same thing?
Will I still be temporary even after a year of probation?
I feel like I don't know a thing about how any of this works.

Employment history with a breakdown by task, criminal convictions, traffic violations etc.

Preparing my 21 page booklet for final processing, wanted to get a disposition paperwork to show my tickets are resolved. Both transit adjudication and dmv were surprisingly helpful.
One step closer.

What was your listing number if you remember
Range of 50-60 (dont know why we're encouraged to hide exact list numbers but whatever)

You should be fine, worst case is it will delay the process until you get it sorted, just be upfront with them about any possible issues.

No, it shouldn't matter, at least that's what they told us during pre-employment.
Btw, it might be helpful to know for those waiting, I received my conditional offer of employment email just 2 days after pre-employment, going in on the 1st for final processing with a start date of Nov 6th.

I believe temporary means it'll be a one year probation period before you are considered a permanent employee.

Went for pre-employment for 7609 and a drug test yesterday, came in with a filled out employment history which they glanced over. Was given a 21 page booklet to fill out at home. Was told they'll be in touch.
Just though I'd provide an update.

Hello:
I know its been answered, but has anyone recently gone through this Oral Proficiency Exam for Conductor exam #6601? Exactly what is it, and is it difficult to pass?? Any info is most appreciated.
It's been covered In this thread.

Just took 7612 exam at FDR am session. First 9 question memorization part was tricky. The rest I found very straight forward. But damn that memory based part lol.

Offhand, do you meet the education & experience requirements for all of these exams? Cause I know I don't meet the requirements for Assistant Stock Worker, Train Operator nor Transit Electrical Helper. If that's the case, then you would be wasting your time and money...
I meet requirements for T/O.
As far as Stock Worker, I worked in a warehouse but it's not exactly what they're looking for.
Lastly, for Electrical Helper, I described my experience with computers / networking, also a bit of a long shot, however since they invited me to take the Safety Proficiency Assesment, doesn't that mean that I passed the Education and Experience test as described in NOE? Also, my dad is a Signal Maintainer and he encouraged me to apply regardless.

Don't stress it, he's not actually looking at you, he's reading his notes, it didn't feel personal to me at all and I get anxiety pretty easy.
