  1. Spent the 1st day filling out paperwork and listening to HR talk. Today's hr session had some station agents but mostly new T/O's btw 60-70 i think.

Having problems creating my i-vault account ..."One or more of the values provided are not correct." Has anyone else had same issues?

  2. Question for you guys. Is is better to work for NYCT as a train operator which I am going in for the medical and final processing in a couple of days or the NYPD? I am close to getting into the July 2013 academy class. Not sure which is the best choice.

In my opinion, the perks you get being a PO is great. Plus you get to carry protection legally at all times. As far as pay goes, you may make more in the long run as a PO but it all depends. They are both well paying jobs. You'll start off getting paid more as a Train operator than as a police officer but in the long run I believe Top pay for PO is higher than TO.. They both have promotion opportunities. Both retire at 25/55 under tier 6. Both can be layed off due to budget cuts at anytime. TO is safer of course and less stressful. NYPD is a paramilitary organization so if your not used to getting yelled at or taking crap from people ie: co workers/supervisors and not being able to do anything about I would think twice. If you were in the military then you know the deal already. It's all what you make of it. Remember this is most likely what you will be doing for the rest of your life so its up to you.

VicEl: u have a great problem. without too much words (since Success7 already said it) join NYPD.1st take ur name off the the MTA list, i think you drop/reinstate ur list# up to 3xs w/ dcas, (mta exam 8098 should expire either 2016 or 2017). plus u got 2 year probation w/ NYPD, so if u like it stay, but if you don't realize it quick and reinstate your list # and try to transfer over ur time... my 2 cents...

  3. Sample Timeline:

    • dt/pre-employment letter dated: 4/11/13
    • dt/pre-employment letter received via usps: 4/15/13
    • dt/pre-employment appointment date: 4/18/13; start- 7:30 am; finished -11:30am

    Recommendations:

    • perform your due diligence before asking questions: research the threads
    • let your conscience guide you when answering/providing any information to mta-hr
    • its best to be over prepared than under-prepared

Thanks for all those who shared freely and willingly ... i hope this timeline & recommendations help others plan accordingly - Good Luck

  4. I went in for final medical procesing on thursday 25th, the lady asked me if I was ready to start on may 20th and I said yes, then she went outside and came back again, and said "theirs a spot for monday april 29th, do you want it", I said no, it was just to close I thought at that moment. What do you guys think? Should I've said yes, am I missing a lot of seniority by not taking it. Thanks

having worked in 2 different union environments, and in your particular situation, i think it would had a little effect on your seniority. as stated already, the May class should continue as tentatively scheduled by the MTA. Congrats on making the May class - mind sharing your list range - thx...

I went in for medical and final processing on 4/23. I passed everything and was surprised when the interviewer asked if i can start on Monday 4/29. I turned it down for now because I am aware I have a shaky background.I told them that I would prefer for my background check to be completed before I accept the job because I would hate to resign from my job now (which is a good job) without giving adequate notice and burning that bridge to accept the position without knowing if the MTA will accept my background as is. She said i was risking for the list to expire before the background check is complete. I think I would be taking a bigger risk if I take the job now and Good forbid get fired because of my background and quitting my last job and having a burnt bridge with them and staying unemployed. Does these background checks really take that long? Has anyone ever requested their background check completed before appointment?

I spoke with my wife about this and she thinks you did the right thing as per the situation you described. i hope it all works out for you when the time is right.

  5. Hi All, I have a question on the 21 page book. In the section for the traffic offenses i had 2 moving violations from 2008 and 2010. When i got a copy of my abstract from the DMV it only showed the the 2010 violation. I'm guessing the earlier one is gone from the record, Should i still list the 2008 ticket in the booklet or leave it out?

    Thanks

HI ChrisKocur - mind sharing your list# range ex. 85x or 86x - thanks & good luck!

Just came from Pre-employment screening & Drug test today. Original date was 4/18 but I didn't receive letter until 4/19. List # 945. Filling out 21-page booklet and awaiting callback ....

welcome to the board. thanks for sharing/updating the thread...

  6. I would say if I make it 1 year, then I could take it a bit easy. Right now, the medicals, fingerprints, and 21 pg booklet I have to be there at 7:30 thus Thursday, almost 2 weeks I took the urine test.

It seems that you have gotten your call for medical/final processing. Congrats! Wish you the best on navigating the hr process.

btw share your list # range - thx...

  7. Question @ the Medical/Final Interview: how much time was there between the actual call and the date/time for the medical/final interview? Was it like 24 hour notice, 1 week etc... Multiple replies encouraged since I'm sure everyone had a different experience - thanks!!!

    bc -#92x; dt 4/18

  8. HI mjddrvr: i wouldn't fret but maybe showing up or calling and explaining the situation would resolve it immediately. Be prepared MTA may have removed you from the list and you might need DCAS to reinstate you.

The appointment is basically presenting all the required and completed documents, as specified, plus a urine sample for a drug/alcohol test. When you show up, be prepared to arrive early and stay til 11am, since this is a large office handling other hr related tasks.

PS mind sharing your list # range ie 94x or 95x... good luck!

  9. thx for the encouraging msg - i appreciate it... got my dmv abstract, fbi prints, and received my ssi history. plus once i know my medical date will set -up my own physical in advance... if i missed anything pls advise - once again thx Etrain...

  10.  made it just barely, to the April 29th class.

Note: somebody ask about the eye chart, the electronic viewing machine basically replaces the simple paper eye chart.

Congrats and best wishes during training. Thx for sharing and please continue as your future, busy schedule will allow...

  11. spoke to the liaison today and she said there are 50 spots for April 29th class.

thx for sharing Gherigfan1... can anyone else share what the previous class sizes were? I thought i read b4 they were about 40 each, except for the 1st class (oct'12) which was a mix of promo & oc.

does this make it the biggest class for 8098 yet? r there now more TSS' available for school car too? if so i hope this trend continues...
