  1. Same thing, isn't it?

And what about you? Surely, things are golden on the other side of the island. You have a CDL as well, so surely you'd have something better to do than respond to literally every post about NICE here. You don't have to know jack shit more about my life than whatever I've posted here, how about that? Someone has an opinion different than yours! Welcome to the real world.

    keyword opinion not fact.
  2. NICE sucks!

Come on Ralph-I thought by now, even you realized that NICE sucks.

you suck too. Broken record. There is a reason why I avoid absurdly long routes like n22&4. But admittedly the crap with n6x & n27/23 fiasco did hurt ridership considerably.

You're trying this hard? That's even more laughable than the service NICE provides. It's okay, though, continue channeling your anguish through trying to volunteer for Veolia/Transdev when you know they're awful. I love how I can make a valid statement that can become, by your ever-infinite wisdom and knowledge, invalid because it contains one criticism about the bus service here. Everything is true - OTP is nonexistent at best, riders are even more dissatisfied (hard to achieve, and guess what: they did it! Maybe that's one thing you can chalk up to God's Chosen Transit Company!), even these 3-year-old buses are dirty and are in dire need of maintentance, and Mango literaly could not give two shits about anyone forced to use the system. What money is there to be saved by taxpayers if he's going to make everything else more pricey? If NICE was "quality," why has ridership dropped by almost half? Why are even more buses late or missing on a regular basis? Why haven't they shown PROOF that ridership has gone up? They sure had something going in 2012 and then there was nothing more - low employee morale/high turnover, lower ridership, and the dispatchers? I feel for them more - they know that it's gone downhill. Every time someone else brings this up, you (the parrot) just repeat the same shit after the same shit.

And I literally could never tire of this because laughing at your denial sure warms my heart.

OTP huh at least it's on-time every time I use it lol then again that happens to me a lot in general not just NICE.
  3. There is no subway in Battery Park City, what in the world are you talking about with this....

You've been on this bringing up of rail service bit in this section rather heavy lately.... It's not gonna get people to not talking about buses....

I was talking about distance riders plus they have a free shuttle bus in battery park.
  4. I didn't really mind that old M9 routing.... It compensated for the M20 not going to South Ferry back then.....

The one thing I will say is that BPC folks used the M9 up to/past the Financial District moreso than the M20 to South Ferry.....

I would much rather have [that M9 routing restored to BPC & have the M20 cut back to WFC] over [the current M9 to BPC & the current M20 to South Ferry]....

Then the question becomes, does the M9 from Bellevue to BPC via South Ferry become too much for the route (OTP-wise)....

yup the (1) & (R) go to south ferry no need to hurt OTP for a redundant segment. M9 as is is excellent.
  5. Q5 should not have any cuts on any part of it's route. It gets good use at green acres mall along with Q85.

Question is, is it worth it?

not outside rush hour. But at rush maybe it is worth it see if people bite and if they use this to get to other buses if it works add based on demand if not keep it at peak times and be done with it.
  6. Based upon road conditions and manpower availability, we hope to begin restoring LIMITED bus service on most fixed routes early afternoon today.  Currently we have reinstated LIMITED LOCAL service on the n1, n4, n6, n14, n15, n19, n20/21, n22, n24, n25, n31/32, n33, n35, n36, n40/41, n48/49, n54/55, n62, n71/72, n73/n74 routes   Only routes that are determined to be passable will be serviced. Given the widespread school, government and business closures, NICE anticipates lower ridership than normal.  While some service may be restored on a selective basis, customers should be prepared for the possibility of delays due to road conditions and traffic.  NICE reminds passengers to take extra caution disembarking buses and at bus stops.

I wonder how bad the North Shore got hit. I probably only got about barely a foot and a half.

    they got wrecked !!!
  7. At least it's better than trying to put the Bx16 on I-87 "B" Stop it with the brownie points

nope actually that is much worse cause it would carry air. As with bx16 it is only on I-87 for 1 exit and would eliminate duplication with bx34 while creating a complete crosstown for the northern Bronx area and unlike the duplicate it would benefit way more riders. Don't be butthurt cause you were wrong for once.
  8. I wouldn't be so quick to say that operating costs would be cheaper for this proposed AIRTrain service over the Q48 (and that isn't an attempt to defend that route either, because I want it gone).... I see both services as being inefficient for where the masses seeking LGA are coming from, and operating costs for rail travel generally trumps that of surface travel....

Anyway, the point is that this rendition of an LGA AIRTrain wouldn't save near as much time over the bus to the airport.... This idea that you're gonna get more airport seekers from the west to ride further east on the (7) to ride back west to get to the airport is a stupid concept in & of itself... LGA seekers that take public transportation from along the (7) will continue getting off at Woodside for the bus to the airport...

As to your point about not being against a rail link just to save the bus routes, and that bus service to/from LGA being a hot mess.... The idea of marring (including eliminating) bus service in general for more rail travel is one thing that's wrong with public transportation in this city now.... The Q48 can go, but the Q70? No..... I mean, Is it really to the point where indirect rail-to-rail travel is acceptable over direct subway-to-bus travel? Cuomo dropped the ball on this one, and it's not solely because riders have to get to the (7) to be able to access it either.....

    --------------

Connecting it to the (7) is nonsensical... Connecting it to the Astoria line would make far more sense, and would garner far more riders on that rendition of an AIRTrain service... If you're gonna prop up (build) rail service, you better make sure the masses are going to use it.... Rail travel should be much less expendable than surface travel.....

Aside for political reasons, Cuomo's proposal is being thrown onto the table simply because it's cheaper & less of a hassle than propping up an AIRTrain service that would connect to the Astoria line..... And you wouldn't need to touch a single bus route (M60) to have that rendition of an LGA AIRtrain be successful either.....

This is the most intriguing post I've read about this proposal so far.... on any forum.

How would Cuomo's proposal loom beneficial to bus service...

Exactly... The middle variable in that equation isn't necessary, and it's not just for those that live around that area.......

    ohh that proposal yikes.
  9. About those bolded parts:

A Riverdale-Washington Hts route via Broadway may take some pressure off those routes. I would probably extend it Yonkers if possible. A Bx24-type (old) revival could still work

Where would this new route start and end? Westchester Sq? Pelham Bay?

Yonkers nah b people will continue to use the (1) & W1/2. Bx9 refer to B35 church's post.
  10. I, however, prefer the service planners determine this based on hard evidence.

And if the service planners already have this evidence, they should release it to the public.

I think service planners are going to become obsolete due to advanced data collection by computers & eventually robots.
  11. The bridges on parkways were built low to intentionally ban trucks and buses. Moses didn't want people from the city being bused to "his" parks.

well he kinda failed because people can simply just take Long Island Railroad and then transfer to the nice bus. Even if parkways can take buses only the meadowbrook & maybe wantagh not sure would successfully carry a bus route on it that would carry. Maybe SSP but that is a toss up.
  12. Also, I would like the MTA to pay Bee-Line to expand Boston Road service, eliminate the Bx30, and extend the Bee-Line 52 to Co-Op City with full boarding/alighting privileges, expanded service within the NYC city limits, and daily service.

    HELL NO!!!

What are your opinions regarding a Bx7/Bx9 switch north of 225 Street?

Yes, local bus service would duplicate the subway between 215 and 231 Streets. But local buses have short-haul riders, and may reflect actual ridership patterns and trends.

It all depends on the amount of people who currently transfer between 225 St and 231 St. Would it increase or decrease?

Also, would such a change increase or decrease ridership? How would it affect ridership on the 1 and A Trains? Or would it simply shift riders around for better or worse?

These are things the service planners, at the lower levels of NYCT, must examine. But they have do it objectively. In other words, they have to ask as to what must be done in order to implement the best strategy that MAXIMIZES OPERATING EFFICIENCY. Not to fear their supervisors, and give lame excuses as to why the status quo should be maintained.

I would like to sleep thinking the same thing a few days ago but I didn't post it.
