  1. 10 cars not 10 sets

Pooh! =\ Ah well can't wait for them to come in. I wonder which line that 10 car unit will enter service on after it's finished testing.

I'm glad they're going to use that propulsion, it's by far the best propulsion in the system.

What I do really hope is that they don't come out as bad as the R142's.... The R142's are plain ugly and horrible. If it would have more of an R143/R160 feel to it that would be nice, in my opinion.

R142's ugly? Man you're lucky we don't have beef! If Turbo or Erica would've even insinuated any dislike for the beast (R142/a) I would smack flames out of them!
  2. "A lot of railfans could learn from that. Wait and see before posting BS.

Third there is a difference between posting what you "heard" might happen and posting what you want to happen. There is too much of the latter here. You don't make decisions and neither does anyone else here. Opinions are unwanted in threads that are supposed to be about facts."- SubwayGuy. Pretty much applies to the last few comments in this thread...

  3. Heres a random thought:

    Just found this article

It looks like from this our R179s will be R143 clones(propulsion wise)....

Well those things (R142a's/ R143's) Fly so I wouldn't mind. 10 sets of cars delivered this year cha ching! I thought it was only 1 set for pilot testing I'm glad that I'm wrong, and can you link us the article?
  4. I actually love the Siemens propulsion on the 330/660 R160B cars (Kawasaki). I really do wish all of them had that propulsion instead.

I like the propulsion too but if the entire fleet had it I personally would get irritated.

I said their fast though in my post.

My bad lol, looks like I'm going blind farewell to my transit career.
  5. They brake and power up differently, I believe it has to with dynamic braking. But as for everything else they are the same, The Material the R142 has doesnt seem to get as easily dirty as the R142As, But then the R142As look alot shinier, with good care, the R142A can outshine the R142.

As for which train is better, It is PURELY based on opinion. No one train is better then the other.  I can say the R1 is better the R142A and believe that the R1 is in much better condition the R142A. Again, Its all opinion. There is no right answer.

I'm a beast whatever I say is factinion. I will agree on the cleanliness part you mentioned, I've noticed how bad the grease stains are from the tunnels on the 142a's & their couplers are much rustier than their counterparts it's a shame.

Those R142As are some dope trains...narrow...fast...that propulsion thoo..and the design.

You forgot to mention how fast they are.

Jamaica Van Wyck. I'll be right out here boy lol.

And the R142's are better. That alstom propulsion & the HVAC. Nuff said. R142As/R188s are awesome too.

If you wanna go deaf listen to that pos propulsion, n iight I'm omw to Barclay's since you wanna show out.
  6. That's because the R142's are better lol :D The (7) really should of been a canidate for them when the redbirds were retiring. But oh well! It's getting techs now.

I don't like you -__-, but I like the (7) so I'll somewhat agree ~_~. And the R142's AREN'T better than the beast 142a, stick to your buses scrub!
  7. Bad idea. That's actually too far off for making a connection between the two stations.

Well they the (MTA) could extend the (3) to Euclid by building underground and turning into Euclid, but I do agree with you on the bad idea part. A lot of money would have to be put into such project and the current ridership doesn't justify it. If anything they could use the money to reduce fair or upgrade the A div Ntt's.

Not too far, but won't get enough ridership. It might be a better idea to send the (3) down to Linden Boulevard and east to Laurelton. You'd still have a connection to the (A), plus another line to JFK.  Relatively few people will get off of an express (A) at Euclid Avenue to get on a local. If they're going to somewhere along Lex or 7th Avenues, they can (and would) transfer at Fulton Street in Manhattan because it would take half the time. If people REALLY want to get from the (A)(C) to the (3) in Brooklyn, build a transfer to the (L) at Junius Street (which should be done anyway as they're right next to each other.

Why must u post before I finish my postand steal my ideas? *Chases you with butter knife*

Nah if they wanted to transfer from the (3) from the (C) or vice versa in Brooklyn they can get off at Franklin avenue and take the (S)
  8. As I said in a later post, the (C) will certainly get NTTs when the R179 order comes in. With the (A), I'm going with history. The R68s are fine, but the (A) and (C) haven't gotten new cars since the R46s, which mostly went to CI and Jamaica. Historically, the trend has been to send new cars to CI and Jamaica with the old cars being transferred to Pitkin and 207th. Did I say it was logical? No. How long did the (7) go without getting new cars? When the R142/As came in, they displaced R62As which were sent to Corona. Instead of giving the (A) R160s to replace its R44s, it got Jamaica's discarded R46s. In a logical world, the (A) would have a full fleet of R211s at the end of the decade, as every car currently on that line is being retired at that point. But, (MTA) the  does not run logically.

Exactamoondo, I still don't see them purposefully putting R68's on the (B) and (D) just to keep the (A) using old equipment. The (7) had clearance and power issues when the R142/a's came in. We'll most definitely the R211's spread out between Jamaica, 207, Pitkin, and CI for the (A)(F) and (R) lines but as far as them going to Concourse, NO

  9. New cars on the (A)? Now you're talking crazy. The (A)(C) are where trains go to die. I don't know if the (C) is getting any of the 65 R179 4-car sets, but one would think so because there are enough short sets to replace every R32 and R42 still in service. I fully expect the R211s to go to Concourse, Jamaica, and CI with the displaced R68/As going to the (A).

Where are you getting your info from? Outside of the BMT eastern division the (C) is the only line that runs trains of 8 car units therefore that's where the majority of the 179's will go along with the (J) to bump of those r42's and the 5 car sets going on the (Q) and (T) . Why would the (MTA) go through the hassle of keeping Ntt's off the (A) to put them on the (B) and (D) when the (B) isn't even a full time route and the r68's are fine?

  10. Q67 gets canned for being outspoken and cussing at Qj, but you have users on here that make racist comments and generalizations about groups of people without any form of repercussion? Sure Q67 was being an ass and there's no defense for his actions but for Christ's sake if you're going to punish him for being the way he is then punish these racist douchebags for being the way they are.

  11. True, some of the fastest speed zones in the system exists along the IRT Seventh Ave Line. The (2) or (3) between Times Square and 72nd then 96th is a serious joyride in terms of speed. 50+ MPH easy.

The R160's are beast along the (E) and (F) on Queens Blvd. esp Jamaica bound on all greens but it cannot compare, for now... (45+ MPH vs 50+) Now imagine how that may improve with CBTC allowing for even spacing of trains and faster speeds.

Cbtc will be awesome when it hits the qbl, imagine cbtc on the (A) with those godly R211's that might be the R10 days 2.0
