  1. They probably don't have a class scheduled at the moment or there might have been one and it became full or was pushed back. Either way they are waiting for new classes to be scheduled and once that's a go then you will be called in to finish processing. Just give HR a call if you haven't already to see where they/ you are In the process

  2. Lol,I don't Know I'm sure there was an extremely large number of applicants maybe that's why they added an additional test day. However, A Sunday sounds pretty Suspect for a city exam it's a first for me anyhow and I've been taking city, state & fed test since I left H.S. what's making me question it is that everyone posting is scheduled for the 14th

  3. Hopefully NO one is trying / going to attempt to memorize the books or booklets they've purchased or will get from these classes as they are only Examples to familiarize you in regards to how the questions are structured on the actual exam.
The actual training is more intense than the exam. However I Know that doesn't apply to everyone some people are not at ease taking exams and sometimes score lower due to anxiety not from lack of Comprehension

Good luck to Everyone taking 4600 on 12-14- 13 As well as on 12-15-13

  4. If you're issued a map of Manhattan at the exam, does that mean it's an "open book" exam?  Or would for example, the Manhattan bridge be pictured, but with no label?

It will be a traditional map of the city with everything named: street's, waterways, park's, museums etc

  5. Is there a guide out there specifically covering the NYC landmarks that would be mentioned during this exam?

The questions are ALL multiple choice and you will be issued a map of Manhattan (which have landmarks and street's labeled) along with your bubble sheet at the exam. If you feel you want to become more familiar with the borough as well as where to locate landmarks on the map on your own just google the map itself or the nyc landmarks separately.

  6. Get you paid from day 1. You have 2 types of  training. The first one is to Learn how to drive for MTA 1-6 days and take a 19A road test on day 7 you must qualify if not then you must get more training on day 8 your next road test day 9. If you don't qualify You have one more shot day 10. You must qualify if you want to go on to the second part of the training. If you don't pass  by day 10 your done. You will have to wait 5 years to come back. If qualify then you move on to second part which is Line-training. Whatever depot you get you need to learn all the lines in that depot it's about  4 weeks of training. Once your done with line- training and have no problems then you will graduate you will get your wheelchair key and badge.

I forgot if you only have a CDL permit you need to take the dmv road test you only have 2 tries to pass it.If you don't pass it your done.

    uh huh

  7. So, hired, taken or whatever... Question is still unanswered... thanks to RTS4Life B-)

Unfortunately, you probably wont get a solid answer to that question on this forum however, contact HR @ 180 & DCAS and you should be able to get a firm response from either or both. I know your concern all too well. Because, when I failed training I applied 3x after when filings were made available. {I'm even considering taking the upcoming one just in case training does not work out this time but I'm trying to keep all negative thoughts & engery out.} Anyhow..I was nervous about that 5 yr deal since my time wouldnt be up until june and they called me to begin processing for 1 in april and then within 2 weeks offered me another operator position from a separate list. Fortunately the time it took between the BOSS & my drug test june is a memory and now I no longer have that issue. The same may or may not happen to you but I would take the exam just to give myself a shot.

  8. Your not hired til you pass the Training.

Not exactly.....  Once your sworn in you are actually appointed/hired as a Bus Operator TRAINEE it even says So on your Pay stubs. You can't be added to or removed from payroll or resign from a position you were nerver hired for so technically you are a hired MTA employee. However you are not considered a full fledged Bus Operator until you complete the entire training process, provided a badge and have earned enough trust to be cut loose on your own to service passengers without a sup ride-along you then move on to being the newbie/ rookie for a while.

  9.

my husband is 433x - he took the BOSS survey June 12th - he is just waiting for them to call him for the drug test and get the process rolling.  I hope they are going to exhaust exam 8094 and all those that took the survey to become B/o so he has a shot of getting in.

From the sound of things they are planning to. It just seems like as soon as they got a little closer to my number thing's aren't moving as fast that is probably due to fact that alost everyone is qualify During medical and filling the classes quickly which is a good thing for them but agonizing to those waiting behind them lol.  Has your hubby been checking with HR on his status and the movement of the list?

  10. OH, I WILL...i was one of the 5 who WANTED Staten Island lol

    hanks so much!

did you do drug test already? what exam are you coming off of and your list #?

Yes M'aam I took my drug test on the 2nd. The same exam as you 8094 #39XX from the last two conversations I had with the liaison in regards to which list # they are up to for medical and I was told 3548 and that was early last week. She is out this week so I'm waiting for her to return on monday because her replacement seemed as though he was totally confused.

  11. My most sincere congratulations to everyone who qualified this week. Best of luck to those of you beginning training on Monday stay focused and even though it will be challenging.....try your best to relax and execute. I hope to be joining you all on the road in the week's to come. Again Congrats!!!!

  12. And that is exactly the attitude you cannot have. Let me just throw out some advice. You can take it or not and I can honestly tell you I wouldn't be offended either way but this is a dog eat dog profession we're in. There are some senior guys and crew room lawyers that will eat your for breakfast. They get off on making you feel as small as possible mainly because they been there so long they got nothing else to get them interested. Mind you they are the minority and a majority of your peers will be lovely, nice and outgoing. That's the good part, but the negative attitudes can take their toll which is why:

When you walk in that crew room - YOU ARE A TRAIN OPERATOR!

When it's time for you to take your practicals, quizzes or any other tests pertaining to the profession you - YOU ARE A TRAIN OPERATOR!

When it comes time to go posting - YOU ARE A TRAIN OPERATOR!

When you make it through school car and hit the road - YOU ARE A TRAIN OPERATOR!

When someone else tries to instill doubts in you about you - YOU ARE A TRAIN OPERATOR!

You are only as good as your last move and if you make your last move better than the one before it you will be one of the best TRAIN OPERATORS!

All in all you have to put this in perspective. You get paid a lot of money for transit to train you for the profession meaning money is being paid by transit to make you a TRAIN OPERATOR. Months are spent getting you prepared and even though some debate whether the training is good or not it's definitely good because we have the best Train movers worldwide. You are given every opportunity to succeed before they take your tools from you so it's up to YOU to make the best of it, therefore: There can be no such thing as you might not have this job. It's that type of thinking that makes even the best too nervous during practicals that mistakes, they wouldn't make otherwise, are made causing failure. From this point forward remember who you are. The crew room vultures smell believers and doubters as soon as they step in the room!

I respect this post in it's ENTIRETY great words for this and any other position you get sworn into you have to hold your head high and own every minute of it. Definitely make each next move your best move.
  13. tomorrow is day 5 and I have to say I am a wreck about driving in manhattan tomorrow...just trying to get a grip.

anybody know where in manhattan they take us to drive? Also, Day 7, who does the qualifying, your instructor or someone else?

Your instructor does. Usually down 14th street towards cooper's square.  some instructors may may have other routes.

  14. I remember I had this issue when I was training with gryhound. How I over came the problem was by placing my spot mirrors on an angle that would show the position of the front wheels. Also I used the steering wheel to keep the the wheel straight while backing Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

I agree it's all about that mirror placement and using that to gauge if your tail end is drifting further away or closer to the curb if you see either happening you gently counter steer to adjust. Since your backing slowly it is easier to correct. Hope that helps.

  15. Well the el pillars tommorow, mounted a curb on day 3 today , still got satisfactory, so I'm hoping I have a shot on day 7. It's not as easy as I thought. Just when I think I'm getting comfortable BAM error.

Your right it isn't as easy as it seems reality kicks in quick when your behind the wheel. Don't get discouraged keep your head up and best wishes on that day 7 qualification  keep us posted.

Thank to Manwell I wish you the best also.

wish you the best im sure you will prevail
