Is it true that a flat tire goes down on a b/o's record as an accident???

Can't win for losing, I swear....

It CAN in fact go down as an accident.

IF, you struck an object such as the sidewalk causing the rim to bend and then in turn causing the air to leak out. So yeah depending on the circumstances, it can be considered an accident.

  2. Thats not how the back doors work. I'll explain it using the Novas:

When you turn the door handle to rear on the local buses, the back doors will unlock (green light comes on) and will stay unlocked until someone touches the tape/bar, in which the doors will open and stay open. When the operator turns the handle to close, the doors will start to close. If the sensor picks up something in the doorway, the doors will automatulically reopen and reclose as many times as it needs until they're closed and locked.

On SBS buses/buses set in SBS mode, the doors automatically unlock and open once the driver turns the handle to rear. As with the local buses, once the handle gets turned to close, the doors will close and recycle if the sensor catches something in the door area.

Agreed, also it's very hard to see someone running for the bus in those mirrors. If a person is out of view, we will assume that everyone has boarded and we will leave the stop.

(In this case, the operator may have assumed that there weren't many people waiting to board, being that a previous bus has just left the location)

We also have strict instructions to leave the stop if passengers are not ready to board with their SBS tickets.

Many operators are courteous enough to hold the bus. However, we actually have instructions to leave. To keep the SBS service as rapid as possible.

Just some insight i thought I'd share

  3. This move is gonna shake up a few things in the city.

MQ may have to send some Orions over to 100st.

Im not sure how many buses the 31 will require.. we all know the RTS will not be sent over there most likely.

MQ has trips that deadhead up to 92nd St. So im sure TU will have deadhead trips to 54th St.

Relief points will have to be changed up on both routes for convenience reasoning.

Lots of bus moves by year end I'm sure.

  4. Most likey if you boarded at the rear, the operator doesn't have control of the sensors. It will close, and re open if it senses someone there, and keeps trying to close...

Nonetheless, he could've been more polite.

Also he may switch over to Quill when the bid happens. Just to chase the route. (If he likes it that much)

  5. Hudson pier was on West side hwy and 15th st.

Quill is on West side and 40th St.

Hudson pier building is still standing, but seems like there is construction going on.

And I was the poster who was hearing whispers about the 86 being sent to MQ.

I'll tell ya this, lots of operator's are going to Flee TU this winter bid.

  6. Pending cancel due to the fact that we will have new diesel buses by then, and the fact that the XDE40's will be rolling in by then as well.

MTA is also reserving RTS and OG hybrids for the shuttle as well.

    New fleet plans:

9 Novas from TA to bus this year

8 Novas to bus next year

17 Artics to GA, required for the Bushwick Crosstown SBS next year.

So MQ isn't gonna be getting those artics after after the M shuttle is over after all?

  7. Not debunking the rumor, but how would that happen if the M31 isn't fully artic and no regular 40 fters were in operation since 2014?

The 31 not being artic has nothing to do with it. When the new year begins, they may send hybrids back over to TU

And take some of the sbs Novas from TU in exchange.

I've been hearing this the last few months and even from the superiors that it may happen.

    Again, don't hold any breath.

There are currently 32 runs on the sbs86 and 34 on the M31

As far as employees, it should be almost an even trade. Buses? That's a different scenario and might be more complicated with storage and placement of the Novas.

  8. I feel like MJQ will end up being the 1st +SBS+ Only route if things keep going at this pace...

Word in the depot is that the SBS 86 will be moved to quill in exchange for the M31. Let's see if it plays out

  9. It was a Brooklyn Division depot before it switched over to Queens Division. I guess Queens felt they didn't have enough depots and dragged Spring Creek. (I could be wrong with this)

    ????????

Queens greedy. They are the only borough with 2 divisions.

But seriously the only thing that goes through Queens is the BM5.

    Guess it's a numbers game

  10. If they see a passenger running for the bus and they close the door and pull away, which has happened, then I just file a complaint. I know a B/O would use the excuse of well it's not safe, and to that I'd say, well what about all of the B/O's that pick up in the street? I've almost been run over a few times now because of such carelessness. I had to jump back on the curb because some guy came flying around the bus, but in all honesty, it's the B/O's job to pull into the curb. The driver that came around the corner is assuming the bus isn't picking up anyone and is coming into a lane that appears to be open.

If an operator is observed opening the door after leaving the stop by an undercover rider, he can be disciplined.

It's not a joke. And it's an official rule.

As far as the operator not curbing the bus, there's many factors that are just reasoning for why the bus isn't all the way to the curb.

Obstructed stops, double parked vehicles , a lot of times, the BO HAS to double park so that the rear of the bus isn't in the intersection, if there's another vehicle in the stop taking up space.

People think BOs are jerks. But most of the time, they are covering their tails.

And some of the time, they are jerks.

    Hope this gives some insight.
