  1. Quick question. I am in my early 40's. And needles to say I have had quite a number of jobs between High School and now. Anybody in a similar situation. If yes, did you go all the way back to high school? I graduated in early 90's I have had about 20 "jobs" and about 4 periods of unemployment between then and now. I have my s.s. Employment history for the last 10 years. The booklet they send you b4 drug test requires only 10 yrs. the 20 page booklet they send you home with after drug test says all the way back to high school. Just wondering if I'm gonna have to go back to s.s. Office and get a history all the way back to high school. Thanks in advance
  2. Hey CeeRock. I got called to verify my status back in June of last year '13. The list was at around 1000's give or take a hundred I am 2100's. I say the list moves about a 80-100 a month. If you call dcas it will tell you the last hired is 1614 as of this morning but the automated line is usually behind. I think I just read that someone is starting this month and they are in the 1700's. That should give you an idea of how long it will be b4 u get a call. You have to get a letter first to take a drug test. But read up and keep coming back here. There is a lot of good info from people that have gone through the process and going through it. Peace
  3. Thx Yoshi. Happy New Years to everyone!! Question I have been filling out 21 page booklet and in the employment section I find have run out of space. In the instruction part of the booklet it states to ask for more pages. For those who are interested, each page is to be used for each job or period of unemployment/self employment that you have to account for beginning with the most recent job you have held going all the way back to high school. So my question is has any one else gone back down to 180 Livingston for these extra pages or have you just used extra pieces of paper and that was good enough. Thx in advance
  4. Oh yeah it's coming depmaze, just b patient. I'm 21xx. So as I stated b4 I just got my pre employment letter in the mail. It was dated on nov 12 for appt date nov 22. Somehow it got mixed up well any way. I spent this weekend filling out the paper work that asks 4 10 yrs employment history and 10 yrs history of where u have lived. So I am in my 40's and needles to say I hav had a lot of jobs within the last 10 yrs and lived a lot of places. At 9 this morning I called DCAS to explain that I didn't get my letter in time. Person I spoke to said that I had to speak to someone to see when they would be doing DT for my job title I was transferred to Ms Shivers VM. I left message. I figured it was best to go in person so I filled out what I could and this morning went to SS office to get a work history print out. Cost me $35. Used it to fill in gaps. Went to 180 Livingston at about 11am. I was told by a person behind a desk that I had to call Ms Shivers and find out when they would b processing for train operators. She gave me Ms Shivers business card and I left discouraged. I figured this was gonna set me back at least a month more on top of the month I already lost. So I felt like crap. B4 boarding bus I tried Ms Shivers again. She answered and she asked me to come back so I could take the DT. I guess there was a mix up or some one wanted to start the holidays early but Ms Shivers was great she asked me to come back. I went back filled out some more paperwork. Verified my veterans status. Took drug test and was out by 1pm. I feel great now. I know it probably won't reach me till bout June but it's good to have something happening. Good luck to all. Your time will come. List # 21xx
  5. Will do RTOPRO.thx. This is incredible news for me. I understand it's just the beginning of another long wait but when u c progress it really feels good. Good luck to all. I'll keep posting my progress in case anyone runs into similar situation list # 2100's
  6. HELP just received my pre employment letter. It seems that the change of address I made didn't get processed in time and my letter was sitting at a previous address for over a month. The letter was dated Nov 12 and my appointment was for Nov 22. I am planning on going down to 180 Livingston on Mon and just showing up and hoping I didn't miss my opportunity. I have gone back do previous posts to see if any one had a similar situation but I didn't find anything. If any body has any useful info or advice on how I should handle this I would greatly appreciate. My list # is 21xx
  7. Tommy John. Congrats! Question about eye test. I wear glasses and contacts. Have been wearing since I was 12 and now I'm 42. So vision is my concern. On a scale from 1-10 how would you have rated your vision B4 the exam. And would you rate it differently after the exam. Obviously this is your own assessment. Thanks for the detailed info. Glad to hear you got it. Good luck
  8. Check this link out. It's an article written from a t/o perspective. It's more for the new guys. I'm not sure if anybody else already posted it. http://www.themorningnews.org/post/train-operator JoeGrind06. Wish I had an answer for your question. Go back to some of the earlier pages and see if u find any answers. There is a lot of good info here. At least till someone answers your question specifically. That article I copied the link to in my last post gives a little idea of what the job is like and how you use your training everyday.
  9. Oh ok cool I misread. Congrats I know u must be siked. Peace
  10. Hey congrats. Keep us posted on ur progress. I know u been waiting for some time. Question How many DT's did u end up taking. I read that ur first was way back in May. #2100's
  11. No letter yet. But I'm anxiously checking the mail everyday. I realize a letter is just the beginning and from the look of thing I'll be taking multiple DTs seeing that they are only at 1600 and I'm in the low 2100's but it will feel good to get an opportunity at a position like this. Congrats to Tommy John. Keep us updated on what happens next week. If I read u right I'm some what worried about the job history. I'm over 40 and have had multiple jobs over the years. To many to list here but I have done everything from teaching high school to driving a tractor trailer. I'm gonna be filling that booklet up and then some with jobs and explanations of resignations and terminations. I am going with the mind set that I have to give them what they ask for and let them decide. I would rather know I didn't get the position as early as possible than get it and find out during school car or probation that a check comes back and they terminate me. I don't think there is anything in my history that would cause that but I rather err on the side of caution. I'm a pessimist. Well good luck to everyone out there and thanks to those guys that are in training and done with it that keep us people informed. All the info is greatly appreciated. Peace and happy turkey day to all
  12. Postal1, thanks for the info. Yeah from what I have read on here school car is no "walk in the park". What PopsicleXGirl said also gives a lot of hope to many of us still waiting to begin the process. I guess they put people on hold for various issues and if they have the luck to resolve them they get reinstated and that would tend to slow the process a bit. I went back into the archives and this time last year they were at 300-400 list range. Meaning that in one year the list has moved about 1300 names. Not bad. I hope the trend keeps up. We'll keep hope alive.good luck to all waiting and to those already in school car.
  13. Thanks Trainman. I was just asking for general info. I don't think I will have a problem with DT unless they are looking for protein shake in my system. I'm in the 2100's range. I haven't even gotten to the DT pre employment part yet. I didn't realize that DCAS wasn't in charge of the hiring process. I remember reading somewhere that the testing part of the process was taken over by the MTA after the last T/O exam. So I imagine then that this person ms. Shivers is the person to contact regarding the process huh.
  14. Finally some movement down the list. It was stuck on 1414 for a while. Anybody in training now hear anything about the need for T/O's. Tommy John asks a good question. Does DCAS just call you in for a DT and leave you waiting if they find something. How do they notify you if you fail. I can't imagine that all list numbers between 1414 -1614 have been hired. Anyone out there know anyone who unfortunately didn't make it.
  15. I'm not disagreeing with you I have the same question. I thought letter DT phone all medical.
  16. Just called automated help line. Still getting 1414 as the last number appointed as on NOV 10. Any body reading this that has gotten DT letter or call for medical please post your list number and status I.e. Thanks a bunch in advance
  17. I think I understand Trainman's question about letter. Everything I have read says that you receive a letter for the DT and a phone call for the medical. If they are up to 1900's that would be awesome for some. Like I have posted before, the list has been moving slow but this would be a big jump. Hope it is right.
  18. The list is moving soooooooooooooo slow. It's driving me nuts!!! List #2100's. On the way home last night on the G line heading to queens I saw what seemed to me like a school car class. People with uniforms standing in the first car about 6 of them and about 4 people in the front cab where the operator sits. Man they looked so happy. Come on DCAS get that list moving. It's been on 1414 going on 2 months now.
  19. Justin thx for info. How's it goin for u. I know ur goin in nov. How's the move goin. Good luck to all that hav gotten notices for d/t and medically. I'm list #2100s Hey Bklynpsd. Congrats. That is awesome. So ur 1650's is the highest list # I hav read on. That is good news. I keep calling the auto dcas line and it has been on 1414 for a month now. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. # 2100's
  20. I have been following the movement of the list ever since I got called in to verify my veterans status back in June of this year. It came out of the blue and believe me i needed that glimmer of hope. This economy has been tough. Barely making it now. So I understand the joy people have wen they get that call. It resonates through their writing. I hope I have the chance to do the same. I thought going down there and verifying my status and having my fingerprints done meant I was close but then I realized it was just a formality in my case. They were at 600 's then , but the list was moving nicely. Now it seems to be going at a snails pace. Don't know if it's just me or am I expecting to much. I mean the people down in DCAS can't be expected to interview hundreds of people a month, right.? Ever since they put out that call for retired operators to come back it seems like that the movement down the list between calls has slowed by half. Sorry to wine, just wanna know what you all think.
  21. Bkgentlrmen hey I have been reading this forum for a while now and if the things stay the same u will be called with the next group. Good luck keep us posted on ur progress. I'm gonna keep repeating my question only to give the people on the bottom of the list an idea of what we r looking at in the future. I don't mean to be annoying. Has anybody heard or have any information on how far down the list they will go? What r peoples opinions regarding the movement down the list? Is it slowing down? Moving the same? Is it possible that they will reach the 2500's. Anything to give us down in the bottom an idea. Again don't mean to sound like a broken record. Thx and good luck to all.
  22. Anybody have an idea what # they may be at on the list. I have gone back and checked and the highest I have seen is 1520's. I'm wondering if anybody is hearing anything on the list slowing down or anything like that. I'm in the 2100's and really desperate to just get a shot at this job. Any any info would be nice. Even if it's a rumor. Trying to keep hope alive.
  23. Thx for the quick reply. Still keeping fingers crossed. GL to you all
  24. Hey everyone! I have been following this for a good while now. Ever since I found out I was on the list for TO. I was wondering what the general feeling was about how far into the list they will go. It was really moving last spring and into the summer but I get the sense they are slowing down some. Even this forum isn't moving like it was. I would check it at least once a day and get great insight. Now it's 2 or 3 days before someone posts. The list It was stuck at 1322 for a good bit and now seems that 1414 is gonna be there a while. I've read that some people in the 1500 range have been called for the drug test. So that is good news. I'm in the 2100 range and believe me I am crossing my fingers that it reaches me. So if anybody wants to respond and give their opinion please do. GL to all of you that have made it.
  25. Hey everyone! Been following this forum sometime now. List #21xx. Fingers and toes crossed. Question, why are so many new TO ' s dropping out or getting booted. Not to be insensitive. But from what I have read it seems like the possibility of getting called off the list is becoming more real. Aside from the hectic work schedule and the constant supervision and scrutiny from your supervisors and peers, which I recognize as being stressful. What else involved that is washing out new TO's. I would like to get a better sense of the position. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
