Yeah, I felt it as well on 3012. Not sure what was the cause though.

I was on 3012 as well! I took a picture of a LED FIND system... if you felt that knee jerk then maybe I saw you today LOL 😄. Did you take a photo of the R68A layed up in Dyckman?

  2. Okay.... That was weird... after leaving 125th, it jerked back pretty violently after accelerating. Probably an electrical gap over the first set of switches. Did anyone else feel that before on this set?

Anyways at 145th at 5:54 pm. 207th street bound. I’m going all the way to the end.

  3. Is this near the GWB?

I didn't see it today at 207th, guess I'll go back and try again on my way home tomorrow.

Yes this is definitely GWB bound for NYC (assuming NYC bound because where else is it going to go?). This brings back memories when they delivered some of the R160s. I wish I saw this today since I drove on the GWB!

  4. Alot of the 7400s are at Kawasaki getting converted and Corona can't send anymore R62A's back to Westchester yard till more R188s go in service so The (1) is lending R62A's to the (6) , if your wondering why you may have seeing more broadway sets that is your reason why , and that is also why during the Pm rush hour Jerome lends an R142 or R142A to Westchester Yard for 2 rounds trips.

Makes sense. Also saw an R142 running on the (6) line last week. I am also seeing a set (or two) R62 (3) trains running as the (1). A lot of accommodations for the conversion it seems.

  5. Dont count on it. Theres three main reasons why they made it always red. The most important being visibility. Not for the passenger, who can just simply read the letter/number, but for other train crews. Its more of a quicker response to see a red light and respond by reflex that there is a train in front of you than to figure out another color. This was how this was explained to me by engineers when the 142's were being designed. We as railfans may want the return of colored bullets, but the focus is on operations. Then there's cost. A multicolored LED costs more than a red one. And not too long ago, certain colors on LEDs werent possible. They are now, but at a slightly higher cost. Especially when you take the cost of one single LED, mutiply that by the number of LEDs in each end route sign, then multiplying that by the number of "A" cars ordered. Then its spare bulb factor.

And in all honestly, its only difficult to tell what train it is if you cant read a single letter or number. Then theres the side signs that you can read.......

Also it would cost even more to put small LCD screens on every A car. That would definitely look better and become more possible to show other colors other than red but again red is the best color for visibility.

  6. Because the R188s will be exclusively used for the (7) line, no other lines. There won't be a need for strip maps. Earlier in this thread there was a discussion about this,

You totally right. Maybe it would have worked for the (2) and (5) but its only two lines. You are right strip maps are cheaper and are best for 1 line

  7. I haven't been on this thread in a while so what is new with the R188's?

I've seen YouTube videos on test runs on Gun Hill RD  (5) Dyre Ave Line. Sounds just like the R142A. I'm wondering why they are still using strip maps.

  8. 2141-2145 were originally from the (3) actually and i caught it on the (7) line last week so it can't be back on the (6) already since there have been no more R62As transfered to the (6) as of late.

R62A Car Numbers on the (6) as of late are :

    1741-1750

    1721-1725,1731-1735

    2191-2195 . 1791-1795

    19

Ok if you're going to provide a history lesson on how the 3 line used to run R62As then you should give out the full information. Otherwise if it's on the 7 then it's originally from the 7. If it's on the 1 then it's originally from the 1 since I'm certain that no one here is having a discussion about car movements from 10 years ago.

I am sorry I meant 2191-2195. I read the numbers wrong. 2141-2145 was actually originated for the (3) before they were permanently paired. Remember the R62A had randomized pairing before they made it permanent. Just before 9-11 they made the overhaul (not sure if that's the right word). If you can recall, before they were paired, for many weekends there were only 8 car sets on the (1) line to apply the fix. I'm not sure if the full cab was added when the R62A was delivered but I was a kid so I don't remember all that. I do remember seeing only 8 cars for many weekends in a row to apply the fix for A-B-B-B-A, A-B-B-B-A cab styles. I can vouch for that because every time the train ending up in the 242nd street terminal there were always two missing cars. It is possible the (3) had 2141-5.

  9. I think a few R62A's are going to stay on the (7)<7>. most of them will go to the (6)<6> (hopefully b/c the LEDs on those cars would be a big help). I thought that R62A (1) train using cars from the (7)<7> was staying there. I guess no R62A's from the (7) are going to the (1).

Dont know when it will be confirmed. well just have to wait and see what the (MTA) says.

    :tup:R142A's to the (7)<7> :tdown:no more RFW.

I rode on the R62A 2141-2145 (orginially with the  (1) train) set this morning on the   <6> so I guess it is staying there. I wonder if they found a way to change the Pelham Bay destination roll sign to Parkchester and vise-versa quickly. The LED lights help a lot but that's just half the job.
