  1. The idea is, the (M) going to 96th/2nd would be NIGHTS and WEEKENDS ONLY when there is not as much subway traffic as a rule.  The main purpose would be to have it run to midtown at all times while in this case also supplementing the (Q) when the (Q) isn't running as much.  The UES's dense population, especially east of Lexington Avenue and even more east of 2nd Avenue warrants doing such.

And the connections are why the SAS should go all the way across 125th Street (stopping where it would connect to all of the other lines across 125), possibly with a connection to the 8th Avenue line there that would mainly be for G.O.'s (and also trains for events at Yankee Stadium) but also to allow for in the future a full-time Bronx SAS via the Concourse Line.

You would think that the UES is densely populated only because the ridership on the Lexington Avenue line is high. It is the only line serving that neighborhood. Imagine the 7th Avenue line only serving the Upper West Side, it would be the same story. I would say both the UES & UWS would have the same population. The (M) doesn't need to serve 2nd Avenue. I think the (Q) could handle it. It's only 3 stations, the is the Lex line 2 blocks away, and the a SBS route above it.

  2. I think the (C) and (J) should have their announcements updated to indicate that they connect to the B15

I remember when I first thought that. But then I realized the (C) and (J) don't have announcements because most using the B15 to JFK use it mostly on New Lots Avenue for connection to the (3) and (L)

Plus I think people would rather take the (A) or (J) to the airport rather than an hour bus ride through Brooklyn.

  3. Where the hell would you connect to the Montague tunnel? Build a new junction underneath the East River itself? How is that going to be cheaper than just building a new tunnel, if it's even possible?

If you connect to Fulton, you only really need to consult NIMBYs if you're opening stations (and if you build around the Transit Museum, that's irrelevant; Court St is too close to Hoyt-Schermerhorn to be of any use anyways).

It could be connected to the Nassau St line south of Broad St. Hanover Square isn't too far from there.

  4. I know that there are junctions north/south of the station, but all 10 cars clears the junction to the south if i'm not mistaken (correct me if I'm wrong) and the crossover is not immediately north of the station. It's an S curve than the crossover. Maybe it's just me but I think there is enough space.

  5. The MTA would be better off closing the loop. 5-car platforms are a dying breed. The only one left will be on 145 Street and for the (3).

Speaking of which, idk why the MTA doesn't extend the 145th St station. There is enough space north and south of the station to extend the station. Maybe it's just laziness or financial problems.

  6. We don't know that yet, I mean were still on Phase 1 for sake! I doubt that we're going to the Brooklyn or Bronx extension in our lifetimes (quoted that from Lance). Once the Second Ave subway is completely finished (at least by Phase 3), 2nd Ave will become more popular because people who live on 2nd Ave now have a direct access to the (Q) line, so the (4)(5)(6) don't get crowded as much. If, (and I mean IF) the Second Ave Subway gets extended down to Brooklyn, it would require a new tunnel (since the other tunnels are maxed out), digging through a lot of populated areas in Brooklyn, and so forth. I would have the abandoned South 4th Street station as a terminal for the Second Ave Subway in Brooklyn.

That would be a horrible terminal. My proposal would be after Hanover Square, a small tunnel could be built to connect to the Montague Tunnel and the SAS could use to Montague into Brooklyn. Than after Court St, another small tunnel connects Court St/Boro Hall to Hoyt Schermerhorn and run on the Fulton St Line. But this would never happen since the MTA is broke as hell.

  7. Oh lord not again...

    Keep us updated itmaybeokay.

    Question:

When New South Ferry will be reopened and the loop closes again, will (5) trains use both tracks at the loop or just the inner track?

I ask this because maybe the (MTA) can save money and open the Loop station for the (5) train for days when it terminates at Bowling Green while the (1) is rerouted to the new station. Think about it, if the (5) we're to have South Ferry as it's terminal the same way (2) trains go via Bowling Green, the money wouldn't be wasted on both the new station and the old station. The (1) wouldn't be interrupted, the (5) would be extended giving Lex riders direct access to South Ferry.

Bowling Green and South Ferry isn't far from each other It's just a 2 block walk. Once the new South Ferry opens there is no point in the South Ferry loop since the reason why the loop was discontinued in the first place was to have all 10 cars serve the station instead of the first 5 cars. The loop might be used for storage whenever the (5) terminates at Bowling Green.

  8. Funny you talked about Metro-North stations in the Bronx or in Yonkers getting local bus service.  The Yankees - East 153rd street station isn't that convenient to get to.  I used it last night to get back to Riverdale, as I have a student that I tutor nearby.  I didn't feel like walking so I took the Bx6 since I figured there wouldn't be many people so the ride would be tolerable as opposed to schlepping over to the station. I was under the impression that there was a bus stop closer to the Metro-North station but apparently it isn't, as I don't use the Bx6 bus since it is faster to walk anyway.  I asked the driver and he told me River Avenue where the (4) train stops is the closest stop, so I got off there.  It's actually quite a schlepp to reach the station, but there is no where that a bus could get any closer without any major reconstruction.  I would say with all of the stairs that the walk is a good 10 minutes from River Avenue. On the other hand the walk from the Spuyten Duyvil station or Riverdale station is far more tedious.  Last night was the first time ever that I've used the Hudson Rail Link bus when taking Metro-North home (I usually only use it really late at night after the Hudson Rail Link has stopped running, and then walk home from there), but my walk would be 20 minutes with some serious uphill and or steps involved.   With the Hudson Rail Link, you step off of the train, walk the short distance to the bus stop where the shuttle bus awaits, and as soon as everyone has boarded, we immediately take off, so it's maybe a 5 minute ride if that since those buses apparently drop-off only. No local bus could ever compete with that.

Actually the Bx13 stops closer to the Metro North station. There is a bus stop at River Avenue and 157th St. Than you just walk west for about 2 minutes.

  9.

    • (A) from Inwood–207th Street to Ozone Park–Lefferts Boulevard or Far Rockaway–Mott Avenue (Screw those whiners who didn't want a (C).)
    • (C) from 168 Street to World Trade Center via 8 Avenue local
    • (E) from Jamaica Center–Parsons/Archer to Howard Beach–JFK Airport via 8 Avenue express, Fulton Street express
    • (T) from 125 Street to Euclid Avenue via Fulton Street local

Benefits: The Rockaways and Ozone Park aren't overserved. The whiners can keep the crappy low frequency (A) express service that they wanted. The (E) becomes the train to the plane, and since it's all express, it shouldn't accumulate too many delays despite the length of the route. Fulton Street local stations get frequent service due to the high frequency of the (T), unless they build some facility to short-turn some trains from 125 Street before they can touch the Fulton Street line.

The purpose of the (A)(C) (T) proposal is to eliminate the confusion on the (A). If the (A) only runs towards the Rockaways and the (C) only uses Lefferts, it would be easier for people to know what train goes where. People along the Lefferts branch want the express into Manhattan, so they can have the (C) which runs express along Fulton while the (T) makes the local stops. Making the (E) run to Howard Beach would just make it unreliable even if it's only express.

  10. There has always been one or two R68As on the (N). Don't know about the (Q) though. The (N) did this for more than a year, or about a year, I think...

The (Q) gets R68s as well, just a bit less often than the (N).

I know that the (N) uses them (I rode one) but I just found out that the (Q) uses them too.

  11. I HAD ONE OF THE MOST ANNOYING SUBWAY RIDES EVERY LAST NIGHT.

I was with my twin brother and my dad. There were two roommates talking to each other. One of them was talking so loudly and kept blabbing for 30 minutes! It was crowded and I was forced to be near them. She kept blabbing about her stupid roommate Sharon. She was like ohh she doesn't pick up her slack and doesn't clean the dishes. She said that I cook the f'n dinner and also have to clean the f'n dishes. She was also blabbing about her expertise in paint brushes and

    WOULD NOT STOP TALKING!

    AHHHHHHHH!

Also, yesterday in the morning I saw an E train on the local track toward JC. I also saw a 4 train on the local track at 42 St.

    EVEN BETTER!

I GOT TO MEET WITH GENE RUSSIANOFF!

HE, MY DAD, AND I HAD A GREAT DISCUSSION.

IT WAS MOSTLY ABOUT HOW TO PURSUE MY DREAMS OF BECOMING, A TRANSIT ADVOCATE, A TRANSIT PLANNER OR SIMILAR JOBS!

    YESTERDAY WAS GREAT*.

    *Except for the blabbing!

Off topic, Wish I had a twin.. I think that would be cool.

  12. Track fire at West 4th St on the downtown 8th av tracks. Uptown tracks are unusable because of the fire. Signal problems at 42 St-Bryant Park delaying northbound local trains. Plus sick passenger at 59th St on the downtown express tracks. It's rush hour btw.

EDIT: Downtown switches south of W4 can't be used.. Uptown switches can be used.

    Reroute, (A)(B)(C)(D)(E)(F)(M)

  13. I'm pretty sure those handles are used by T/O's help get up to the cab from track level, so I don't think you can really get rid of them.

Having cameras on each end of train will be better. This way, the crew will be able to see if anyone is hanging onto the back.

Than they can install some sort of lever so that if somebody is hanging onto the back, a crew member could push a button and the lever would push them off....

  14. For Court Sq: how is the (N) and (Q) affected?

Court Sq isn't too far from the Astoria Line...

I think the 63rd St line is accessible.

    (7) Two Sections: Single Track between Times Sq & Vernon Blvd and Local service between 74th St and Flushing (Shuttle buses provided)

    (E) Two sections: Between WTC & Lexington Av and Roosevelt Av & Jamaica Center via Express

    (F) Local on QBL

    (G) Terminates at Nassau Av (Shuttle Buses provided)

    (M) via 63rd St Line

    (N) Terminates at Lex/59th St.

    (Q) Terminates at 57th St

    (R) Single Track between 59th St and 95th St

Basically use the F or M.

    (2) Two Sections: Local between 241st St & Wall St and Eastern Pkwy/Bklyn Museum & Flatbush Av

    (3) Two Sections: 148th St & 14th St and Eastern Pkwy/Bklyn Museum & New Lots Av

    (4) Woodlawn & Bowling Green

    (5) Dyre & E 180 St

(A)(C) bypass Hoyt St and Lafayette St

    (F) Normal Service.. it won't be affected since Bergen St is far from Barclays Center

    (G) bypass Fulton St and Hoyt St

    (B) Bedford Park/145th to 34th St

    (D) Two Sections: 205 St & 34 St and 36th St & Coney Island

    (N) Lex/59th & Jay St-Metro Tech and 36th St & Coney Island

    (Q) 57th St & Whitehall St and Prospect Park & Coney Island

    (R) Single Track 59th St to 95th St

  15. Nice ride on the Lex yesterday morning.

    Rode an R62A (6) (Finally!).

    Saw the R62A (4). I was like, wait, an R62A? Why is the (6) express? Oh! It's a (4)!

Saw an R62A (6) right behind the (4).

Was about to take the R62A (6) going home at Canal St, but didn't have connection to (7).

Took the R62A (7). I thought it was supposed to be mostly R188s...

I have yet to catch an R188. Anytime I take the (7)an R62 shows up.

  16. I propose a new subway line instead of an (A) or (C) extension. I'd name it the (X) and it'll run between 207th Street and Co-op City via Fordham Road and Pelham Parkway via the yard approaches to the 207th Street Yard. After passing the yard into Manhattan, a new lower level will be created at 207th Street for these trains and this level will be built as an infill station along the yard approaches.

    Manhattan:

    Inwood-207th Street (A)

    Bronx:

    University Avenue (4)

    Valentine Avenue (B)(D)

    Fordham Plaza (Metro-North)

    Southern Boulevard

    Pelham Parkway (2)(5)

    Williamsbridge Road (5)

    Eastchester Road

    Pelham Bay Park (6)

    Co-op City-Earhart Lane

    Bx12SBS?
