  1. I agree 100%....a few years ago, thanks to the NY Transit Museum, I was on a tour of one of the IRT shops/yards in the Bronx. While in the break room, I saw a sign of approved footwear for the Conductors, Train Operators and Train Service Supervisors, in which I briefly recorded the information. After doing some research, the only product the company makes to this date is this type.

In addition, a family friend of ours got me a pair of approved TA boots over 10 years ago. Although the manufacturer, Lehigh Safey Shoes doesn't make them anymore, I did some research to find a pair or two which, in my opinion, are the most similar to these. After briefly looking through over 400 different kinds, the ones that I felt were most similar can be viewed at http://www.lehighsafetyshoes.com/mens-safety-shoes/dickies-challenger-steel-toe-waterproof-boot/DW7525.html?dwvar_DW7525_color=01 and http://www.lehighsafetyshoes.com/mens-safety-shoes/knapp-backhoe-steel-toe-work-boot/KN5025.html?dwvar_KN5025_color=01.

Now since I have received about 3 different pair of boots from the family friend, I just want to emphasize some of the things, which, in my opinion, that they will look for immediately (in addition to the other specifications):

    a) The boot has to be either 99% or 100% all black. The pair I got over 10 years ago is 100% all black with the exception of the yellow and white Lehigh Safety Shoes logo on the tongue, respectively.

    b) The boots have to be steel toe.

I did a brief search for "Red Wings Boots," and if you do purchase one of those, you'll just be wasting your money.

    Feedback? Thanks in advance...

If you find that you have difficulty wearing the NYCT issued boots then you must have the Alternate Boot form completed by a podiatrist. You are allowed two boots which Transit will reimburse you fo= the boots. (amount to be reimbursed is determined by brand you purchased). Boòts ordered must be on separate receipts for reimburse to occur anywhere from a few weeks to month). Boots don't have to be black. I ordered two of Timberland Pros with composite toe in brown and they were approved

  2. I got sworn in today for the Dec 28 class

    Congratulations!!!

I had my name restored to the list and never got called to go down for anything. I've been on the phone with someone at personnel who handles that and she told me the list was extended until July or August. Take that for what's it worth.

  3. Congrats guys! It's a great feeling.

KNYNE, Thank you. I'm so glad to be aboard, and a change in my career. I been working in healthcare for 18 years, and it feels good to say I did my time, and it's over with now. Change is good!

Trust me you'll be able breathe a sigh of relief. Not to mention, good $$$$ in your pocket.

  4. I'm officially in! I was sworn in today, and start on the 27th.

For those of you who went in for the pre-interview, and are waiting on the call, you will get one, don't worry. You ust have to wait out the 2-90 days like the rest of us.

There were people there today, who were there for the TO pre-interview as well. The call is coming!

Congratulations!!! I'm so happy for you. It's a beautiful thing to be sworn in. I remember that feeling. A few days ago, I turned down TO position since I took the same exam before I became employed as a Track Worker. Unfortunately, because it was Open Competitive and not Promotional that if I decided that I wanted to return to Track then it would be at Superintendent and Assistant Chief Track Officer discretion. I didn't want to take that risk so I'll just take the Promotional Exam when it comes out at end of the year.

    I just got a call. I report on Tuesday AM...Yippie !!

Congratulations JK!!! Welcome to NYC Transit. You're apart of the family now.

  5. a) Be late or not show up for work (since attendance is very important)

    b) Do any type of drugs (because if they do a random drug test, and they find something, you're fired)

    c) Spread yourself too thin between work and other activities

This is all I can think of so far for this position...

    Here are some additional DON'TS:

    1. Get arrested for any offense because you will be fired immediately.

    2. Become involved in workplace violence or sexual harassment incident. You will be fired immediately since NYC Transit has no tolerance.

    3. Failure to wear your Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

    4. Refusal to obey direct order of Supervisor if task is apart of Rules & Regulations.

    5. Become AWOL by failure to report your intended whereabouts while on duty or leave job site early.

  6. Im not sure if this was answered before, but does anyone know what hours the shifts are if you get hired? Also can you work part time or is it only full time? Im asking because I was thinking of going back to college but if I was called up before I finished I would want to do this job too in case I still can't get a good job after college.

You will work full time. More than likely during a mini pick when you come out of class you will be work nights (overnights) since days jobs are usually taken by folks with seniority.
