What's the deal with that set that was involved in an accident or something when it was doing the shuttle?
That would likely be some kind of physical evidence for legal proceedings. Short-hand, a lawsuit somewhere along the way.

As the days go on since the R179s resumed service it looks like there haven't been more than a single R-32 train on . Others maybe in reserve. Is anyone finding them?
saw one this morning
Thank you. It looks like to be a habit of one or zero each rush hour now. Definitely reduced in number since the R-179s returned.

And then Cuomo will try to force him out like he did with Byford?

R62 1591-1595 is back on the
The R-62s used on the are cycled back through LIV for certain inspection or overhaul requirements that 240 can or will not be able to perform.
LIV is still and always has been the "home" shop for all 305 Kawasaki R-62s.
When this the case, either there are no R-62s or if needed a random train from the is loaned as long as required.
Good point with 2466-75 now also back home the R-62s might not be anymore needed. At all?
Keep them eyes open!

4788-89 was allegedly reported as retired before but ran a skip stop trip in the AM rush.
That would have had some quickly refurbished 600vdc bussing inside, maybe a helped inverter? A waste or just respect for their history?
Whatever, nice to see of the final ride!

So you must assume therefore that all 870 R-160s based at Jamaica are now CBTC operational.
So now we may NOT from the horse's mouth. The Queens lines have mixed sets of CBTC enabled, some completed sets when so consisted and some have not have (Jamaica) installation even yet begun. CBTC installation is in its fourth year as it is. That means somebody has to figure out which exactly R160s can or can't be used during CBTC operationality.
Kind of a chore or a mess, isn't it? The drilling crews at JYD must be busy (ahem, thrilled?).

The "hot wire" tells us that all the R-42s went nappy nap this afternoon--again!
Er, that appears to mean the the R-179s have concurrently been returned to revenue at least 3050-3149 group on the .

Swap news #2:
As of January 17, 125 of the Coney Island R160s have been transferred to Jamaica, including the former CBTC Test Siemens train (8893-97 and 9013-17).
The only left 9100-series Alstom cars at Coney Island are 9103-07, 9113-17 and 9163-67. All other 9100, 9200 and 9400 series Alstoms have all gone over to...

Swap news #1:
As of January 17, 92 R46s have been reassigned to Coney Island, but NOT ALL HAVE ACTUALLY YET BEEN MOVED. Will be in effect on January 21.
Two of the former Jamaica R-46 links have been temporarily reassigned to Pitkin.
So to answer the questions as of this weekend (January 18-20) there are 300 R-46s left at Jamaica, but you still might see 16 of others that are already reassigned to Coney Island if still randomly wandered on or .
No additional moves can be expected for a few weeks.

Different subject:
44 of the 50 R-42s have been restored to passenger service as of January 17. Almost all have been running wheels off since January 8. Chances are poor that the other six will be restored for serious (various) problems. Bad luck, it appears.

So what happened to the 20 cars that were pulled out?
They were thrown back into service because of the 179 issue
Start with this:
10 of the 20 R-32s that were meant to be scrapped were restored to revenue service. Two of those pairs (4 cars) had other defects discovered immediately. One of those pair"SHOULD" be fixed quickly, the other unknown. Time will tell.
Unfortunately 10 of the 20 didn't get rescued at all and will still be retired and scapped.
As of today the R-32 fleet has settled at 212 of the "original" 222.
