0 -

This is the email i got back from them and the question i asked with the date, so highly unlikely they started it in 2 days after i emailed them ????
For Conductor, Exam # 6601: if you kept a record of answers, you will be able to calculate your score by checking the answer key, Click on the link and it will take you to the website for the proposed answer keys: http://web.mta.info/nyct/hr/proposed_answerkey.htm
Your official score will be mailed to you when the list is established in about a year to 18 months.

i dont think they can just change their mind, they will have a major law suit if they extended it and dont call from it. my opinion is that maybe the promos started bitching so they going to call from promo list and then once they are finished with that they will call again for 8094 until feb 18'. this is just assumptions.

im confused...
wasnt 8094 extended until feb 18', meaning even if they are done calling promo we will still have to wait until that date.
correct me if im wrong.

I understand your viewpoint totally, but I slightly disagree. There's no way all 45k applicants passed this exam. Maybe 35-41k give or take a thousand. With all of those who pass and scored very high how many of those people will have better paying jobs or simply lost interest in this position by the time their list # is reached? Out of all of civil service exams I've taken this is the exam that I've scored the highest on (1 wrong) but if I were to get called for another position before if or when the MTA reaches my # I certainly would take it, but I'd resign if or when the TA eventually contacts me because I love trains and being a Train Operator is something that I've always wanted to do since I was a kid so I'd happily take a pay cut just to do what I love. With that said, we're in tough economic times and I doubt the majority of the people on this list feel the same as I do and would take the paycut to follow their dream and I don't knock them for it.
If I had to guess I'd say you should be ok with no more than 2-3 wrong, *maybe* 4 but that may be pushing it. Then again, we didn't see them extending 8094 at the last minute, so who's to say they won't do the same for 6601?
I'm certainly just as frustrated as you, Niku, Matt, and everyone else about this news. It's ridiculous that people who could barely pass a simple reading comprehension exam keep getting a million chances when you have current employees and outsiders who scored higher waiting. Excuse the rant, it's not my intention to be condescending or judgmental towards anyone, just frustrated and apparently I'm not the only one who feels this way. I'm going to try and link this quote from someone much more knowledgeable than me who expresses the point I was trying to convey much better.
From SubwayGuy, spot on.
wow. well said subway guy.

yeah, and people who scored 85 are getting called from 8094. were screwed guys, we payed MTA a good change of money to hire of 8094.
45,000 x $65 (application fee) = $2,925,000
YOURE WELCOME MTA

hey everyone who took the 6601,
As per the exams unit i emailed yesterday, I received this reply;
"Yes, the old conductor exam was extended.
Your official results and list number for the Conductor, Exam # 6601 will be mailed to you when the list is established. Given the large number of participants (45,000), it may take a year or two."

just sent an email out, will update everyone with what they say once i get a reply.

My thinking is online with yours. I've read some posts in the 8094 thread and it seems like they're doing mixed classes.
I recently emailed the nyct exams unit and they told me they expect to establish 6601 in one
year. You guys should give a shot and see what they say, my email about 2 weeks ago.
If they tell you the same thing they told me then I'll start to have doubts about the validity of that chief article.
It just doesn't make sense to me that they'd continue to call from the bottom of the barrel of applicants from 8094 when they have two lists ready with potential new hires that scored higher, along with the fact that they're increasing the qualifications for the title and they're having issues with the applicants from the Train Operator exam.
when was it that you called and they said they will establish the list in a year?

That's total bullshit. I swear, transit doesn't fail to astonish.
yeah. i feel like all of the people who took 6601, just received a big L.

exactly from reading the 8094 thread, they are having mixed classes..hopeful thinking. i dont get why they keep extending the list, its ming boggling.

unless they extend the list again.

yeah....*sigh*

i dont necessarily think they will finish the complete list but they will call from 8094 until Feb of 2018 and then im assuming they will call from promo and then 6601. this is all my educated guess from what i been reading on past posts.
ill make a crazy assumption and this is just me hoping for the best, maybe they will call both promo and 8094 the same time and they will both expire feb of 2018 and then maybe call us after, just me trying to give myself some hope and the rest of us lol, but just thinking out loud.
if anyone else with more experience, please add your 2 cents.

hey everyone who took 6601, i hate being the bearer of bad news but if anyone here had any hopes that the list will come out shortly or that we were going to be called in a year or 2, dont hold your breath..
im so utterly disappointed ... but congrats to 8094 for their list being extended once again,
here is a original quote from the chief,
"Whereas a restriction against the filling of vacancies due to budgetary constraints has limited the number of Conductors the New York City Transit Authority has been able to appoint, on Feb. 1, 2017, the duration of the existing list for this title, based on Exam No. 8094, was extended to February 16, 2018. The test was given on Dec. 6, 2008 and the resulting list established in May 2011."

After trying to figure out what the document REDVIPER90 linked us, i was able to obtain the following information for conductors;
1) "The 2017 increase is mainly the result of additional coverage required to meet intensified track repair work at NYCT and training of locomotive engineers and conductors at MNR. In later Plan years, across the Agencies, year-over-year changes are modest and consistent with wage growth assumptions and changes in operational requirements. "2) Concrete Safety Enhancements that promote safe operations and safe work practices included:"Continuing Locomotive Engineer, Conductor, Rail Traffic Controller, and Yardmaster rightsizing initiatives to appropriately balance/limit fatigue risk, shift coverage, and overtime use."3) Proposed Additional Investments:"Train and Engine (T&E) Block Training Extension from 3 to 5 Days - block Training is the period of time during the year when the approximately 1,400 Metro-North Engineer and Conductor (T&E) crew members fulfill their periodic training requirements. It takes a full year to process these employees through their annual block training exercise. This two day extension, which is being instituted to more efficiently train the crews on new state and federally mandated topics as well as PTC, will enable Metro-North to more effectively cover the cost for coverage ofservice while employees are completing this additional training."4) "Human Resources continues its aggressive hiring efforts to fill vacancies, especially for critical, must-fill maintenance positions in all areas and crafts. Human Resources is also working closely with Transportation to right-size the Locomotive Engineer, Conductor, Yardmaster and Rail Traffic Controller ranks."
5) "Provide for a more efficient process for scheduling mandatory train engineer and
conductor training, enabling MNR to provide better service coverage utilizing straight-time rather than overtime."0 -
Ren, no offense but I think you're over analyzing everything. And this is coming from a person who has the same score as you.
Let's just wait until the official list is established and notices are sent out and take it from there. From now until then it's all speculation that you're trying to make sense of, stressing yourself out in the process.
I've told him this numerous times, guy never listens. let him live in this false reality in his head..

ren your assumptions never fail to surprise me . smh,

First of all, apology accepted. From this point forward, just stop it, okay?
Second, whether you talk to a Train Operator or Conductor in person, or whether an experienced Train Operator or Conductor posts something on this site, it is only from prior experience. Even the last sentence of this post clearly states: "Past results do not guarantee similar outcomes on future lists." Therefore, at this point, regardless of who says what, nothing is official until the list comes out, and then we will take it from there.
Third, do any of you want me, or the other moderators, to start giving out warning points over this nonsense? It will be done, if necessary...
moderator to the rescue!!!
thank you!!

I just spoke to a T/O at Rockaway Park today. He basically confirmed what another poster had posted earlier: there is HUGE turnover at the conductor position. They call up 2,000 or so a year but then only 450 want the job, and the rest are no longer interested or DQ'd for various reasons. The reason for the turnover, he told me, is that everybody wants to promote up from C/R. Turnovers for T/O are much fewer. It used to be that the Bus Operator and Conductor exam were combined. When you applied, you were applying for both. Today it is separate. If you're disciplined at a higher post, they bust you down to C/R. If you're already a C/R and you're disciplined, there's no lower post to go down to; they just dump you.
Anyway, I look to be in pretty good shape if the turnover is that swift. Even if my list number is in the 2,000-3,000 range, I can expect to get called up in about two years, and the list is good for four. Looks like 6 wrong ain't so bad after all
you need to stop giving out wrong information, you clearly are trying to make yourself feel better and give yourself false hopes into being called. let the list come out, for gods sake and then you will know better! STOP GIVING OUT FALSE INFORMATION
