I answer the questions honestly , I know  they wont believe I wasn't late for the last year and I think another question where I should have said co-worker but instead I say supervisor that's because where I work that's how we does it.

Lets see what happen because I'm not sure I want this job, quality life is more important to me than money , I know this is not for all but that's just me.

However I will wait and make that decision when that time comes.

When does the results comes out ?

    thanks.

    Raj.

    Raj,

I would not worry about what they may or may not be concerned about. I actually had "trouble" with the first 25 questions versus the rest of them. Those first 25 questions were just one sentence ones that asked us to answer on the scale. The rest of the questions were pretty much straight forward. I just skipped to the second section and started with that, then went back and did the first section of questions. I do recall that I never answered any of first 25 questions with either a 'strongly agree' or 'strongly disagree'.

I believe that it will be a couple of months to get our results back. It is right now that I am just realizing that I should have put in for MsBSTOA as well but I let the time lapse. :o

Trust as long as you got a 90 plus you’ll have a fighting chance. It may take up to damn near 4 years after the list is finally establish but at least your in. Just make sure to continue to apply to other MTA exam like T/W that’s out now. Always give yourself other options to get in the door. Cause once your in your in. Then you can move around!

    Drew,

So in your opinion, do you think that a score of a 90 will be good enough for some folks to get on, but my score of 86.6667 might not be? 😐😐

So I did the survey today and realize you couldn't have study for this , its a character / personal  survey.

I guess there is no same answer for everyone.

The guy say the results will be out in 2 months, I would want believe before since its computer score(ing).

I was there myself Raj, in the first classroom (I think there were 2)...

How do you think that you did? :) I hope I "told them what they wanted to hear"..

Good luck to everyone who's taking the boss survey Monday 23rd, I will see y'all there. I hope we could all get to know each other :)

I will be there Raj. Maybe I will run into you there as well. Lol although how will one of us know who to look for!? Lolol :lol:

I've been sent an appointment for an oral proficiency assessment for next week. What should I expect to happen on that visit?

You got sent an oral proficiency assessment for next week already?? The list has not even been established as of yet I thought! :o

  6. This probably belongs in the #7612 thread but good luck to all of you whom are going to be taking the exam this weekend. I am going to be declining the opportunity to take it, which might sound foolish but with my long drive down there and also being scheduled to take the BOSS exam on Monday the 23rd, I figure that #7300 will be my fastest way to go. Of course I might change my mind by Saturday night but between the cost of a hotel in New Jersey + the toll back into NYC + gas cost + trying to get nearby parking near FDR, I think that I will pass. I have my heart set on the T/O position from exam #7604 that I got an 87% on this past June anyways and so I will take my chances with the BOSS-only MTA #7300 as opposed to #7612 civil service.

Best of luck to all of you. Maybe I will run into some of you on the 23rd in Brooklyn.

Got my notice. 11/2 @ 11 AM. Downtown Brooklyn. Chance 1 of 4 with the BOSS exam.

Chance 1 of 4? Are you taking the BOSS for MSBSTOA as well? I forgot to sign up for that one back in June and now I am kicking myself for forgetting in case I fail this MTA BOSS that I am taking on the 23rd..

Me three! My list number for this exam is 24**.

Long story short, it's a personality exam. They're going to ask you questions, as if you're in an interview, and you have to respond with the answers they want to hear. Don't worry if you are not telling the truth, that's the purpose of the exam to begin with.

Some sample questions are as follows (answers are in bold):

    1) What do you do when you are not sure about the proper procedure to follow on a rush job?

    a) Check a manual

    b) Ask my co-worker

    c) Ask my supervisor

    d) Go ahead with what I think is right.

(Keep in mind that, just like in the past, you will be starting out as a "rookie" employee.)

    2) How comfortable are you speaking one-on-one with a co-worker?

    a) Very uncomfortable

    b) Somewhat uncomfortable

    c) Fairly comfortable

    d) Comfortable

    e) Very comfortable

(Looking for people who will get along with others.)

    3) The charge of a ticket is too high.

    a) Strongly agree

    b) Agree

    c) Neutral

    d) Disagree

    e) Strongly disagree

(You're telling them that you do not get any tickets whatsoever.)

    4) Stuck behind a slow-moving vehicle on a two-lane highway, you are driven by frustration to try to overtake in risky circumstances.

    a) Nearly all the time

    b) Frequently

    c) Occasionally

    d) Hardly never

    e) Never

(Safe driving habits, regardless of whether you're in a car, box truck, bus, etc.)

    5) Try to overtake without first checking your mirror, and then get honked at by the car behind which has already begun it's overtaking maneuver.

    a) All the time

    b) Frequently

    c) Occasionally

    d) Hardly Never

    e) Never

    (Safe driving habits...)

    6) When someone asks me for directions:

    a) I can easily direct them to their destination

    b) I often have difficulty explaining the directions

    c) I find someone else to do it

    d) I do not talk to strangers whatsoever

(Shows how well you can get along with the passengers in your bus...)

    +Young+,

No kidding. I am going to put these ones on flashcards and memorize them ... Here is what drives me personally crazy about the BOSS versus the civil's like T/O and B/O. Generally speaking, you can, sort of "study" some kind of material to prep for those kinds of tests, I.e., the NYPD study guide that you provided previously. But with these personality exams, there is really no studying. Example: I received some advice from a colleague  who stated to me "...you need to be true and honest. Think. If you were an employer, what would you want your workers to value?". So, you said up above in your post not to worry about being honest or telling the truth. But I totally understand what you mean by telling them what they want to hear.

One other note: Take one of the questions up above.

    2) How comfortable are you speaking one-on-one with a co-worker?

    a) Very uncomfortable

    b) Somewhat uncomfortable

    c) Fairly comfortable

    d) Comfortable

    e) Very comfortable

They are looking to see how well we would get along with others. What I have trouble grasping is if we were to select E as an answer, it would be wrong? But why would that be wrong? I suppose they could look at it that if a worker was 'very comfortable' talking to a co-worker, he could be a gossip or a talker, but I don't know - you REALLY need to watch these questions and like any test, watch and think about what you are about to bubble in for an answer. I swear, these are the worst! Lol :o

    Good luck .

Thanks, I will need it. I took one of these same types of test for Amtrak for a Passenger Engineer Trainee or Assistant Passenger Conductor position online and failed it. These tests IMO are actually HARDER, believe it or not, than the actual civil service exams themselves. To me, they are designed to trip you up.

Sorry to hear that my ninja. I know how difficult these surveys can be I personally have had bad luck with them. I would say continue to take them and try to figure them out. They have practice ones online as well just google them. Try some of those it helps train your mind to be able to see the trick questions. I’m sure you answer all of them correctly but you may have answer one question one way then turn around answer that same question just worded differently another way not noticing that it contradicts one of the previous question’s you answer. That’s how they get you it’s the trick questions you have to look out for.

    DrewMania,

I got the BOSS exam coming up on 10/23 for B/O #7300 myself. To hear that someone failed this exam sucks. You said that there are ones that you can Google. I was unable to find anything to practice on myself but could you point to one of the sites where you can take a "practice" test?

  11. Well, I just received my letter today for the BOSS exam scheduled for Monday October 23, 2017 at 11:00A on Livingston St. in Brooklyn.

Hopefully some of you will also get your letters shortly as well. Best of luck to all of you. Maybe I will see some of you there. :)

Personally (and this is personally), I wouldn't waste any $$ on those books. Depending on where you live, you might be successful borrowing some books from your local library, since they are going to be useless once the exam is over...

In addition to using some books from the library, I focused on the Notice of Examination, which contained what's going to be on the exam, in addition to this NYPD Test Preparation Kit, which includes a memory portion.

    Good luck!!

    +Young+,

Can you suggest some books from my local library that I can take a good look at in preparation? That NYPD Test Kit is a good start. Many thanks.

So in today's mail I got my admission notice to the exam - Sunday, October 15th @ 2:30 PM at Midwood High School in Brooklyn.

    Anybody else get their letter?

    Young,

I just got mine today (probably took longer to get to me in the mail since they are mailing it ALLLL the way back here to Southeastern MA and all, but at least I got it :D ). I am at 8:30AM on 10/15/2017 at FDR in Borough Park. Goal is to do better on this than on T/O #7604. :)

  14. So, if anyone has any information on this question, please feel free to answer:

If I am correct, the MTA Bus Company brand has 8 different depots which are: Yonkers, College Point, Eastchester, John F. Kennedy, Baisley Park, LaGuardia, Spring Creek, and Far Rockaway.

Would it be possible to choose your depot provided IF one gets past the BOSS exam, physical examination and gets a conditional offer of employment and getting through the extensive training period respectively? I would think that, for me, the Yonkers depot would be my "first choice", so to speak, but I realize that beggars cannot be choosers either, yes. I believe that there are 6 or 7 routes out of that Yonkers depot. :)

  15. Not that I'm aware of...since the first test date is the weekend of October 14th/15th, we'll probably get it in about three weeks, give/take a few days depending on where you live.

    +Young+

Do you know if there is any study material for this exam? Or anything to look at before?  :)

  16. I've done interview, attention test, and did the drug test/ physical/ "obstacle course" Unless something impossible occurs next time I contacted should be a job offer.

Did they contact you again to start in a class yet? Did you find the obstacle course difficult or would it be harder for the more 'rounder built'?  :D

  17. @jc620, what test books did you read for the T/O exam if you don't mind? Thanks

Follow this link for the thread and it is post #201 that will provide the information that I used to "study" for the T/O #7604 test. Like everyone else had stated before though, it was reading comprehension mostly. I did not use the green Passbook though. As someone else stated in the thread: "Not only that those books just have a series of questions with outdated terms, with the answers in the back of the book. But they don't explain to you why they're right or wrong. So that doesn't help you in the least bit. Because they don't explain any policies or procedures. Plus they questions they ask are far harder than any questions ions they'll ever ask on the exam itself".

    http://www.nyctransitforums.com/forums/topic/49384-to-exam-7604-open-competitive/page-21

There's no way this crap is random. It strikes me as odd that people with certain last names have list numbers that precede 1600 and yet there are people like me who pay the fee and sigb up early but dont have squat to show for it. What a joke.

Can you elaborate on why you do not think that it is random? If you think about it, it must be some sort of a random-number-assignment the way they hand them out.

Best of luck and hang in there  :)

  18. I also got a letter in the mail, and my random number, according to the letter, is 2,433.000. Therefore, if we take away the three zeros, my number is 2,433.

IMHO, with a random list number of 88 (if you take the zeros away, since a "point" and a "comma" are not the same), you are in a very good spot because you'll be called down to Livingston Street shortly to begin the process.

In addition, do you plan on taking on Exam 7612 this October? The reason why I'm asking is because NYC Transit is the best out of all 3 bus companies, and once you complete your probationary year with MTA Bus Company, you don't have to do it again when switching over...

Good luck & keep us posted!!

    +Young+

    Thanks for the encouraging words.

It appears, according to the letter that I got, that they are only going as high as 1,600 at this time. But don't worry, in 2018, they are going to schedule again. Again: according to the letter that I got. Hopefully, you are correct though in that my number is an 88. It is just strange with the 88.000  .

I also put in for TA #7612, yes. So, if I was to get on at MTA Bus Company, but then switch over to TA later on, I would not have to go through the rookie probationary period once again? The only one that I did not put in for (because I was more concerned about the T/O #7604 at the time that was coming up which I was studying for) was the MaBSOTA #7105.

So, it's either going to be from T/O #7604 when that list is established God knows when  -_- , or depending upon how I make out on the BOSS exam on this one for MTA Bus Company #7300 OR the upcoming T/A #7612. One of those 3 SHOULD hopefully get my toe in the door and edge it open  :D . Personally, while a little bit off topic, while I got a 86.666666667.... on the T/O #7604, that is the ONE that I really would like to pursue despite some of the horror stories I have read in the school car thread  :( ..

As far as being a B/O, I am now here in MA. I already have my CDL-B so I wonder if the training would be that much more expedited because of that - pending on the physical of course which should be fine as well.

Best of luck to everyone though!

  19. Yeah, mine says 88.000...Does that seriously mean that I am random list number 88,000? I hope not because the letter also says something about the first 1,600 being scheduled approximately at this time and if you list number is higher than that then you will be scheduled in 2018.

    I mean...Really? 88,000!!

  20. A little off topic exam-wise but If you Google search the list from Exam #8098, the list established something like 11K names on it for T/O. I wonder how far they got on names from that list. Just for kicks, I compared my score to the list number on that one. So if I was to use a reference from that list, based on my score, I would be around #5242-43. Insanity. I actually believe that MORE people probably took (and possibly passed) this test recently that we just had though as crazy as it sounds. Not sure if the link will work but if you want to check it out:

    https://bloximages.newyork1.vip.townnews.com/thechiefleader.com/content/tncms/assets/v3/editorial/f/e5/fe5b6146-0740-11e2-a3c5-001a4bcf6878/5061fbb6d0fef.pdf.pdf

  21. I realize that it is based on a few different factors that have been discussed above such as how fast they establish the list and etc, etc.. But, ballpark or best guess, with my "tentative" score of an 86.6666666, if it stays the same after the protest session: First, what are my chances? And I mean real chances of a call for pre-employment, and, as asked before by others, how long roughly? A few have higher scores than I, so...just venturing a guess here would be fine. Just wondering. 2 years? 3 solid years? 4 years? Good thing I am also taking the B/O exams coming up as well

Also, can anyone give a synopsis or a rundown of what happens when they do call/contact you for pre-employment?

    Thanks..
