I applied and was called immediately to interview for a role within MTA procurment that my nyc gov expierence fit almost perfectly for. It was a union role that was non titled.

I did 2 interviews and I believe they went well. Before the 2nd interview HR told me I was a finalist and they would be contacting my references.....that was 6 weeks ago and it's been radio silence since.

I followed up with the HR person who I've originally been communicating with to ask if they've made a final decision regarding the role and I never heard a response back. The role I interviewed for has a 2 month background check. I also followed up with my references to ask if anyone had reached out to them and they said no.

I feel like Ive been ghosted. It's really weird because the role was reposted on the MTA job board but my application still says in progress. I know for budget and hiring positions aren't taken down til bodies are warming chairs but this has just need a very odd process.

Does anyone have insight into the hiring process?

End to end it can take 6 to 8 months to complete the hiring process. From "conditional offer" to start date can take 3 months. Background & Investigations can take 2 months. HR is many times inclined to not be in contact with candidates if there's nothing to report to them about. If you are "in process" you are at the point of awaiting a "conditional offer", if it comes the process continues if it doesn't then you didn't land the gig. Nothing on the portal interms of "status" is relevant. What you are awaiting is a possibility of an offer. The hiring process is long, tedious, drawn out & at times without communication. So while you may think they have abandoned you, they may return back when you are next up for action. Stay patient & don't think it happens it any time efficiency.

Just to give people a heads up transit is closing down 180 Livingston before the end of the month and moving to 149 Pierrepont Street.

Just curious here, are all operational divisions moving out of 180?

This an end lease situation? Seems like a quick move(end of month) if it's their entire operation at 180 moving. Not knowledgeable about the history, but that's a major logistical point for TA.

I have that from TWU, but those are all Top pay charts from contract agreement raises. But it doesnt show how you will get from Starting pay to Top pay.

Since the raises took affect from the contract, the new hires get a new sheet showing their yearly increments from starting pay ($25.05) to Top pay ($35.79).

So for example... the sheet will show year one $25.05, Year two $26.72, year three $27.10, and so on until u reach Top pay.

They usually give that to you either when u swear in or at orientation. Alot of folks get alot of paper work given to them that they don't notice they have that paper.

Okay, you're infact looking for a wage progression chart. While postings for jobs will show the progression chart, if there's been no recent posting it might not be easily accessible to grab. I would suspect the progression will mirror the breakdowns of most twu repped positions. 70% $25.05 of $35.79. This will be just math if you know the time period to 100% and the percentage increase on the progression. But yeah, some job postings do offer the charts up front

Any new conductors have the newest yearly raise break down from starting pay to top pay? I see there's a couple ppl in school car now, did you guys get your paper they usually give at 180 or at orientation with the new break down? If so, can you write what the new break down is per year? What are the numbers in btwn $25.05(Starting pay) and $35.79(Top pay) per year?

This may assist you in getting what you are looking for.

Thank you again . I was bummed thinking I’ll probably have no chance in hearing back but I’ll use your tip of AI assistance

Yes, the AI assist will probably allow for ones resume to aquire a higher score against the stated position. Still, the wait times tend to be lengthy. So, apply in masse & forget. Only time you can count it is if they actually contact you back at anytime in the future.

Back again . I’ve been applying to office /admin positions since January , and declined from many / no update from others . (Analyst , customer service specialist , testing specialist, etc )

How crucial would you (those in admin positions /HR)  say a cover letter is? For the most part I’ve just been doing resume since I’ve applied to 100+ and very rarely have I uploaded a cover letter . Does this play a heavy Role?

No, cover letters are not going to tip any scales. The response rate on application is very low. There are hundreds of applicants for single positions. So just on odds  it is difficult to get advanced up to the next level. Some have mentioned tweaking resumes to match to postings though to increase odds. So using AI assistance for resume writing. And again, transit oftrn takes 6+ months past an application to contact those that get past initial screens. So patience is a key. But results are slim. Process in totality is long & often times messy. Good luck

    How do I reinstate?

    @Biggie

also I’m working full time right now at post office. If I trade it for traffic checker, is it worth the trade in the long run? I don’t wanna make dumb switches that will make me regret later on. Any advice is helpful

unless getting promoted to cleaners from traffic checker means I can get pulled from a civil service list…

Trading full time work (at post office) for part time work (traffic checker) likely is not in one's best interest. You are employed & can wait the duration for a full time entry at TA when the time comes & you're called for something that is full time.

If you're on a civil service list, you can reinstate by contacting dcas. Once you have been removed from outgoing certifications.

You can be on multiple lists, and seek the best/most desired for yourself if you can wait it out.

  9. 6 hours ago, 2ride said:

I was thinking I can go in even in 2 years from now since civil service list doesn’t expire until the 4th year timeframe is up.

While a competitive list lasts years, it only gets certified (pulled) for possible appointments ever so often. When they call you, you can appear & go through the process. Or not show up & get likely removed from the pull list of candidates. If you are removed, you have the right to reinstate your name on the list.

Biggie advised you well, if you contact them likely they can give you a near term date if you can't make the appointment. If you don't process, or no show likely you may get dropped off the eligible list until you reinstate.. However, you will have to wait for another certification (pull) from the list. And these can take a while.

His advice on Checkers/Station Agents is also very informative on the process. Good luck. How well you did on the SA Exam, when they score it, when they establish a list & when it gets certified will all determine how long it will take to get to you on that (potential) future list.

  10. I'm curious how this all ties into the State Sick Leave Law

    https://www.ny.gov/new-york-paid-sick-leave/new-york-paid-sick-leave#permitted_uses

There's a whole section on it about retaliation if sick time is used. But  it would seem TA limits the use on alloted sick time people accrue. They give you say 1 sick per month in accrued sick, but will penalize folks who utilize over a certain amount on an annual basic. Then at a terminal point pay sick out at 50%. I suppose once you have sick notes from docs the amount you can use is the amount you have in accrual.

What exactly is "sick consoliing & control" what triggers them to occur at transit?

You will be counseled to improve your sick leave record after your fifth unsubstantiated absence (no doctor's lines) for the year. On the 6th unsubstantiated absence, you will be placed on sick control and you will be required to provide doctor's line for every instance you book sick

    Thanks Jericho.

When you mention "for the year" are you speaking for a calendar year Jan-Dec or for an MTA annual Year of May-May?

So key is to keep it under 5 sick/callouts per year. Good info.

Do you know of a 70/30 rule as well, something to the effect of maintaining 70% of your accrued sick, or be placed into console/control? Thanks again!

Good Evening I have also accepted an conditional offer for Staff Analyst position. All paper work including Pre-employment was submitted; no correspondence from HR as of yet. I would like to inquire about the hiring process. Thank You

Have sent you a response on PM. Good luck on the process. Be patient

  13. Would not place much emphasis on the status changes inside the applications portal. Only time you take things seriously in there is if you're actually contacted by someone from HR in regards to your application. Other than that, apply. But don't have too much expectations. Get contacted, and that's your good sign. Everything else is a wash. Good luck with it.

    Hello everyone,

I am new to MTA and I was wondering if anyone knew the career path for staff analyst, or how to get promoted besides taking exams? I know there is an Associate Staff Analyst title. Would that be the highest point, or can you transition to another department like becoming a senior fiscal analyst?

Here's the list of titles that exist in the analyst series:

Associate Transit Management Analyst (OA – Represented by TWU) Min: $85,316 – Max: $110,468
Associate Transit Management Analyst (TA – Represented by DC-37) Min: $81,891 – Max: $106,027
    Associate Transit Management Analyst (TA - NON/REP C&S) Min: $81,994 – Max: $106,164
Assistant Transit Management Analyst 1 (OA – Represented by TWU) Min: $65,003 – Max: $76,955
Assistant Transit Management Analyst 2 (OA – Represented by TWU) Min: $75,475 – Max: $ 84,060
    Assistant Transit Management Analyst 1 (TA – NON/REP) Min: $62,471 – Max: $73,956
    Assistant Transit Management Analyst 2 (TA – NON/REP) Min: $72,534 – Max: $80,784
Associate Staff Analyst (MTA BC – Represented by TWU): Min: $84,901 – Max: $109,929
Staff Analyst II (MTA BC – Represented by TWU): Min: $75,107 – Max: $83,649
Staff Analyst I (MTA BC - Represented by TWU): Min: $64,686 – Max: $76,579
Associate Staff Analyst (OA – Represented by TWU): Min: - Max: $85,316 - $110,468
Associate Staff Analyst (TA – Represented by OSA): Min: - Max: $77,356 - $100,155
Staff Analyst II (OA – Represented by TWU): Min: $75,475 – Max: $84,060
Staff Analyst II (TA – Represented by OSA): Min: $68,430 - Max: $76,213
Staff Analyst I (OA – Represented by TWU): Min: $65,003 - Max: $76,955
Staff Analyst I (TA – Represented by OSA): Min: $58,934 - Max: $69,771

Key distinction, will be some are (union) represented and some are not & yes you can go outside the analyst title for other titles. Exams allow for promotion, you could promote with hire to new title as well (but likely provisional vs permanent) Good Luck.

  15. 9613, Assistant Transit Management Analyst, 101 ELIGIBLE, 75 Vacancies 03/09-04/11 Salary now: $61,246 $62,471

    9614, Associate Transit Management Analyst, 72 ELIGIBLE, 65 Vacancies 03/02-04/04. Salary now: $80,386 $81,994

Did any of you Analysts out there on these two exam lists get appointed off the hiring pools they conducted in March/April of 2022?

Seems these lists have been neglected by NYCT, and they've chosen at times to hire off list, unfortunate! These small lists should have been exhausted, but likely not many were appointed yet, there are MANY Analyst opening on the mta job boards [https://www.mymta.info/careers/index.html] if you are on these lists, apply if you're interested & state on your resume you are on the list/s. While DCAS has not certified a list since around March of 2022, all eligible test passers can apply to these open title positions on the site, just ensure you state at the end or in your resume you are on the "Eligible List for Exam xxxx, TMA" If you apply, you are given at least 2nd priority line, first likely internal candidates, then second, eligibles on the exam list. Apply to any of the analyst positions you see on the site if you are on these lists!!

I know that I am on pre screened status any time they call me for interview

again same question do you or any one know what book required to read ?

I'm afraid you really don't know how this process works. You being pre screened on the mta job site means little to nothing. You applied, they received your application, it was reviewed. You are likely one among hundreds. They show passed pre screen, likely many others as well. You have little to no guarantee that they will ever call you for an interview for either of the positions you applied for.

In the slight case that they do, you are going to be interviewing, there is nothing to study as they will be asking you about your experience, how you would handle behavioral situations. Your resume is what will allow you to even get an interview. You don't read books for interviews. This is not an exam!! If you are contacted by HR, just answer the questions they ask (most will be in relation to your background/experience) then likely you will have to be interviewed by the actual hiring managers. I hope you understand.

                         Job ID

    Timekeeping Analyst                 103040

    Assistant Conductor Trainee   101831

So what you have there is not an exam, it is a Job ID. I take it that you have applied to those two jobs. You applied on the site? Did you get contacted by HR for interview?

These are job postings, not exams! If you have been contacted for an interview, then you have to go through the interview process. Which can take months. Again, when apply online, you may or may not ever get contacted for that job. If you have been contacted, then you have to go through interviews (again no exam) Good Luck to you, please investigate the difference of the job application process versus an exam. Two entirely different things
