we're on lunch till 10. so first part was classroom, common sense stuff but of course very important. then we took a train ride to 4th ave and 53rd st, got on live tracks and practiced clearing with trains passing us on both sides (one train at a time), walked 5 blocks or so to 59th st station through the tunnel.

wasnt as spooky as I thought it would be, was pretty fun actually.

going back to class to pick up our track qualification card and back to school tomorrow morning to 14th st.

Oh cool sounds like you guys had fun

not really sure, all I know is we started on Nov 8th. on Monday we're going for track qualification, then 9 days of flagging, also someone said we'll be done by Christmas.. so looks like it does run longer than 30 days.. they never outlined the steps.

Alright so it' going yo take longer then expected but what's track qualification is it like a 9ne day class like fore school or is it a program where a test is needed?

for orientation? just ID and maybe a marriage certificate for a spouse in order to add them to your medical etc. cant remember if they asked for anything else but doesn't hurt to bring all your docs just in case ... also get a bulky notepad to start taking notes from orientation and school soon after

    Alright thanks jake

kind of does. going to coney island yards tomorrow for fire safety, we'll be learning how to evacuate trains.. i wonder if there will be simulated smoke and all that

That would be aweome you should let us know how it goes and what did you bring first day lime do we need social security? Birth certificate of anything?

    orientation lasted till about 4pm

you'll report to school at 8am till 4pm on the first day and then from 7am to 3pm from then on

times are not guaranteed, on some days they might ask you to come in for a PM session to attend fire safety or similar at a different location etc.

    Fire safety sounds fun

I called HR and they told me they cancelled the signal maintainer class till further notice, good and bad for me, I really wanted to start asap but the good thing is that I can spend the holidays with the family

as for flagging, If I can remember..flagging the the most critical thing you can do especially for those working on the tracks, the purpose of flagging is to warn uncoming trains that there are workers on the track, in the past or maybe today they been so much accidents and deaths due to incorrect flagging, so you have to set your work area by placing lamps ahead of the track to let the train operator know to slow down ahead due to workers on the track, as a flagger you can set up TRIPS so incase the train is not stopping it will put the train in emergency etc, you will tell the train as a flagger when to proceed when safe to do so etc

So have you went to flaging school can you tell me how the 9 days are what you do and what if any exams you have to take are and are about? And for the 5 days your in the field being supervised what will you be doing?
