Are those class dates definite? I was called for the June 10 class and asked Michelle Vargas if I could defer to the July class. She said the class was probable but not official and told me to give her a call back around June 7th to talk about getting into a July class.

No one can tell you better than Ms. Vargas

  2. Thank you Conductor2015. This is getting pretty annoying now with all these so called educated guesses and wrong info. If you guys look at the top of the forum it states the highest called for P/E is 1800s and medical 800s. If people are being hired with a 600-700 list number still that has to be due to them being on hold for some reason or deferring previously. No one knows what list number they will get up to. A good number of people can be put on hold once again and the list will keep pushing as she stated before.

If you want terribly nitpicky and overcorrect definitions:

A suit with a tie is not business casual—it’s [full] business attire.

“Business casual” is much looser term that can include a wide variety of different outfits depending on the venue and circumstance.

The most it would include is a suit without a tie (with the top button of the shirt unbuttoned).

I’ve worked in corporate America for the better part of two decades and I’ve seen “business casual” mean many different things depending on the company’s corporate culture.

For the MTA and their pre-employment setup, my version of “the least you could get away with” would be a some kind of collared shirt (polo or button-down), either slacks or a nice pair of unripped jeans, and a pair of dress shoes or sneakers but only if the sneakers match whatever pants you’re wearing (no bright or flashy colors).  Also, no hats, extremely flashy jewelry, or other accessory your mom might cringe at if you wore it to dinner with your grandparents.

    Perfect!! Thanks

When I went to P/E back in Nov I saw a dude dressed like a pimp. I saw some over dressed, some dressed casual, some in jogging pants, some in buisness attire, and some in regular street clothes. I don't think it really matters what you wear as long as your paper work is correct. Lol! I wore a hoodie sweater, jeans, and rain boots because it was raining that day. I was the first one there on line and left by 2p.m.

Lol thanks guys I appreciate it. Definitely will go comfortable the next appointment. Good luck to all you guys.

List- 109x; patiently waiting. I know it’s right there so my patience is wearing on me lol.

  5. When I went for my first P/E late last year, folks were dressed in regular street clothes. I know the packet states Business Casual. Can anyone tell me what’s the “least acceptable” way to come dressed to Livingston? Last time I had on a full suit but if I can be a little more comfortable I prefer that lol.

  6. Hopefully that quota of the 225 vacancies is for this quarter they’re currently in. But the fact that they called only about 300 candidates for P/E is a little discouraging. Hopefully that’s only bcuz they have just this one class scheduled at the moment but hopefully more to be scheduled soon for July and the coming months.

    List 109x , 2nd PE scheduled on 5/24

School car tss confirmed to me that they need 180 people for June.  I'll harass him for the exact day sometime this week . That'll bring the number into the 1000s and that potentially puts me in there for the summer.

That’s hard to believe they will call that many people in June. Are you sure that’s for T/Os only or maybe T/Os and Conductors? We’ve been hearing about what these TTS been sayin since January and none of its been true so everything is hard to get excited for at the point but I’m hoping and praying for the best!!

According to a city data website, the city made a request for over 200 T/O's yesterday. I entered my name and saw that date next to it. I'm not sure if that means more classes are coming soon, but it could be a good sign. I'm following this info in the conductor thread, because someone said the city wants to hire 200 new conductors as well.

Hopefully that’s as of now and not an old request for the previous classes they called.

I haven’t heard anything. But I did want to ask about medical/dental benefits.  I haven’t seen any literature on it. Does anyone know if it’s good?  Is it like most private company insurance these days where they charge you an arm and a leg and you still have a huge deductible?

if I totally missed the benefits described somewhere easily accessible, sorry about that.

If that’s the one thing I’d think anyone would know, is how great the benefits are with transit. No you will not be paying an arm and leg for deductibles and other fees. You can’t compare transit to a private company and what they offer

I don’t think anyone has mentioned going in for medical and being sworn in lately. I go in for my final at 248 on April 29th, I will check the gym to see if there are any induction classes there and let everyone know. Last time I was there was the beginning of March and there was a conductors class only. Hopefully they started the train operators hiring back!

    Thanks for the feedback.

Ppl need to stop annoying this lady and wait until they start reaching out to us again. We'll be notified when/if they need us for PE. Everyone here will start posting that they got letters & ect.

Exactly. Wait for people to start posting about notifications they’re receiving. I’m list 109x and being patient because no one from the 900 list numbers haven’t even been called yet. All you guys list number 1300+, sorry to say, have to be the most patient because there’s 100s of people before you guys who still haven’t been called in for a 2nd PE.

Thanks for letting us know. Sad news.

Just because nothings scheduled at this point in time doesn’t mean it can’t be scheduled in a week. Let’s keep the positive energy and go off what someone recently stated about there possibly being a class in March

Exactly this. I was supposed to be in the Jan 28th class but it took just a little too long to get off of medical hold. Bad timing, bad luck, inefficient doctors: call it what you will. It’s aggravating to be so close and then have the rug pulled out from underneath you.

I’ve taken so much time off to jump through all their hoops that it’s become problematic at my current job.

Yes, we have to be patient. But there’s no getting around the fact that we don’t know for sure that there will be another class, or at least another class any time soon. It was easier being patient when they had a new class roughly every month. Now we don’t know.

You can argue that they wouldn’t have called so many people if they didn’t intend to hire us. But they called in all those people back when it seemed certain there would be more classes after January. I remember reports of there being a March and April class.

The decision makers at the MTA change their mind on a dime though, or so I was told by the woman at window 3. That is what happened here. They changed their mind. So who knows what is going to happen. You can be patient, but for what?

I understand your frustration. As to your question, being patient and for what? I believe that’s our only choice lol literally!!! If you want the job, that’s all we can do is wait and be patient.

My medical hold was finally cleared today. The woman at window 3 (180 Livingston) said they weren’t hiring train operators. I asked if they would be in the future and she said she didn’t know.

I also have to go to DCAS to be put back on the list but the woman said I needed to wait until the end of the month. I asked her why and she said that’s what DCAS told her to tell us. She didn’t have any further information about it when I pressed her.

Aftet all this, I’m greatly disappointed that they’re not hiring TOs. Let’s hope they change their mind soon.

Everyone seems to have forgot quickly what was previously discussed on this board. It was mentioned by my than one person recently that there will not be any classes in February and possibly this quarter for that matter. I don’t know why this is a surprise to anyone. MTA will hire according to their needs. The majority of the candidates who were hired in November-December went in for their first PE’s in early summer of summer 18’ and it took them around 6 months to get sworn in. Can’t express more than enough how much patience is required for all of us right now. They would not have called up to, or close to, 2000 on the list to only hire close to half. They have a plan in place and we just have to be patient; as simple as that. I’m just as antsy as any of you guys/gals to get in, but that more you stress, the longer the wait will feel. It’s been 2 months since my first PE and for me it felt like the time went by very fast because I’m trying not to think and stress over it. PATIENCE everyone, PATIENCE!!!
