Hmm...that's right, MNRR takes credit cards....does the LIRR? I never tried to pay with one onboard.

Even though I'm on the LIRR way more often then MNRR, I trust the MNRR system a bit more.

I'll eventually go digital with paying for the LIRR, but only when virtually forced to do so.

I'm not sure to be honest. I have only bought e-tickets for LIRR rides of late, mainly City Ticket. Works beautifully. It has allowed me to catch trains that I wouldn't get otherwise as I have bought them right on the platform as the train was ready to depart,

LIRR 100% takes card. I've lost my monthly twice at the end of the month and have had to pay for the remaining one or two days with my debit card. I've never had a problem.

Today I was at 2 separate stations where the turnstile bank had at least one reader with a malfunctioning screen. Very unlikely due to vandalism. I purposely tried them to see what would happen

Fortunately the NFC and blue/green/red corner lights still worked properly and the taps worked the first time.

I wonder why a screen was chosen as opposed to a dot matrix like we have now, especially considering the screen only shows reader status and a go no go tap result. Its just another point of failure to account for

Full color screens are far easier to read than dot matrix screens.

It probably also has something to do with New York's insatiable desire to see something new (*cough* subwayfan1998). To a degree I can sympathize with that, considering having to look at the same decrepit stations day after day can get tiring. I feel that if OMNY was implemented with current-standard LCDs it would put a damper on the media hype. Remember, you also have to buy over New Yorkers and convince them that this project is actually worth it.

Glad they decided to stick with it. They don’t always. The R142s and R143s both ended up looking noticeably different from their respective mockups, especially the R142s

Are you referring to that mockup that was posted on here about 10/11 years ago? I'm not even sure that was official.

In general I think the (7) just has a smoother acceleration curve. The (L) has always been very janky, and I think they probably designed the (7)'s ATO with more comfort in mind, while balancing it with speed and efficiency

Is this purely because of the physical layout of the line, or the nature of the equipment on the line?

I'd imagine that even with CBTC and no AWS, the TA would probably still install CBTC on at least the TOMC and Holiday Train if possible... if they have to retrofit work trains with it they might as well do it for the main vintage trains...

It will be interesting to see in the future what sort of decision we make in regards to the Museum Fleet. At what point does modification of the historic fleet come to a point where they are no longer the same car? Is it worth the cost? These are issues that need a deeper look into as the signaling system of the subway modernizes as the years unfold.

It seems the MTA is still figuring out how to make more money. Lol!!!

    Enjoy the clip!!

I saw that all over the 7 this morning. Have to say, they are small enough not to be obtrusive but big enough to be noticed. Very Impressed!

Why would China instead of Japan Kawasaki manufactures R262?

We are in the lands of the lowest bid. If CRRC can outbid Kawasaki, Bombardier, Siemens, Alstom, etc, then chances are they will get the bid. With that being said, situations are open to change and considering the R262s are in the early stages of planning, there is still much time for the MTA to make a decision. Nothing is even close to being set in stone with the r262

What would have happened to R160s 40-50 years from now?

Presumably retired. If we call the lifespan of a subway car about 40 years, that would mean that the R160s (now about 10 years old, scary to think 😬)  would be 50-60 by then, and unless we end up with another R32 situation they will most likely be headed for the scrapyards.

    That is my Opinion

I have many personal and political opinions but they have no place on the forums. For the record I agree that the R62/As are ugly, but that does not contribute anything to the conversation. If you do give criticism, which is perfectly acceptable, please make it constructive. For example, instead of saying "CBTC doesn't make any sense," you could say "I personally do not think CBTC will be effective because it does not address the core operational issues of (insert thing here).

So this forum should be something what sounds like something that was said on Reading Rainbow or Mister Rogers Neighborhood ?

It was the theme song in a documentary about Ontario for the '67 Expo in Montreal, but close enough 😉. Both those shows were before my time but i'm sure it all fits!

You’re acting like one dude, chill out. You have rights to your opinion but your commenting on a PUBLIC forum. Some of the content you share may be offensive or downright banter. Here we hold a bit of a higher standard with relevant and coherent thoughts and sources, or suggestions. So please chill, read some threads, research MTA history and politics, understand that this here is also a community. Thanks.

I could not agree more. The forums should be "A Place to Stand, A Place to Grow" (If anyone get's the reference it'll make my day). Before I started posting on this forums a couple of moths ago I started by reading through many of the topics I found interesting to see what the environment is like and how I cant adapt my language to fit the mould. That way, when I started posting, I would know how to not clutter a topic and not to ask questions that were previously addressed earlier in the thread. I may be new to the forums, but that does not give me an excuse to disregard the SOPs that have been set down over the years.

Just my thoughts, disregard them at will.

What make those R62s crappy are their HVAC units

    Ah yes....

Yesterday I was on the 4, which had AC, the shuttle which had AC, but then when I got on the 1 it was actually more hot and humid inside the car than it was on the platform 😬. It was only one stop I was on for, but I feel for all those who had to ride that piece of absolute shite for any longer

Thank you for being the only person on these forum so far to back me up on this! As a person living in the rockaways, it is incredibly frustrating when an A shows up for the first time in 8 minutes and it is going to Ozone Park

Is there a minimum age to be a member on the forum? If not, we should set one

And what would that accomplish? When I was 5 I set up an email account with my birth year as 1973 instead of 1997. Anyone with half a brain could work around that, especially If I could pull it off as a 5 y/o. Unless y'all start asking for a copy of a drivers license at sign up, there's no way to check that (and then again, some people are masters at Photoshop and could whip up a license in under an hour).
