Marble Hill and Fordham should become off peak express stations to increase service at little to no cost and to boost ridership by making service slightly more attractive.

They probably didn't do that on purpose, considering everyone would be gunning for the subway.

To be honest, the Enhanced Station Initiative was way overhyped; the renovations the MTA did on the Fourth Ave Line were something of a disappointment- the stations retained the hideous '60s refrigerator tiles and the original BMT platforms mosaics were never restored.  Huge letdown for those of us who spent years anticipating the restorations.

They were also never really maintained...

  3. It seems most of the people in this thread either drive or (of course) use public transportation, but does anyone actually bike? If so, then you'd know that biker culture, consisting of not stopping at red lights, is rampant. Some do it more carefully than others, treating the red light as a stop sign and looking both ways to see if they could actually keep going or not, but imo the only way that will stop is from enforcement. You can throw as many lights and cameras as you want, but w/o enforcing the rules, incidents and the skipping of red lights will keep happening. The other question is... by how much should these rules be enforced? I imagine that if police began ticketing every biker who skipped a red light even if it wasn't a danger to others on the road, the bikers would get pretty annoyed. Not saying that they should be skipping lights, but it wouldn't be that big of a problem if they would be a bit more careful about it. Also, this begs the question--should bikers have to go through the same training and license acquisition as car drivers so that they would learn how to actually follow the rules of the road? lol

Bikers, who lead to a fatality maybe once every six years, can be our focus with after we tackle car fatalities, which lead to a dozen dead bikers, 130 dead pedestrians, and 50 or so dead drivers each year. Proportionality – don't miss the forest for the trees.

OK, but of those dozen biker fatalities, how do you know that the problem was not caused by a lack of care from the bikers themselves?

A Fresh Pond Bus Driver was doing a push up on the 6th Ave Subway Bench

Speak to us again once you report all of the buses on a weekday rush hour failing to arrive within one minute of their scheduled arrival time at each stop.

Either that, or the governor may have foreseen COVID-19, which may have contributed to the premature retirement of the R42s and the current contingency of the R32s. Could this also be why the governor reduced the now-former (L) project to half-ass only?

Yes, Cuomo can see the future, which is why he said he wouldn't be running for President (spoiler alert: he will).

Then run the (B) on weekends.

The last thing we need to be doing is implementing more branches, especially when said branches would be day-specific.

I support this too, though mainly because I'm tired of very long train rides on R68 (Q)s from Midtown on the weekends.

Speaking of the 59 Street transfers, I just wish they'd fix it so it stops playing before 4 and 5 trains have already come to a complete stop. Conductors won't open the doors until it finishes so the destination/next stop announcement plays correctly, which I'm guessing is on orders from management since it happens on every train I'm on regardless of time of day.

I was on the (4) recently there. The conductor opened the door and let the transfer announcement play, and then cut off the "next stop" announcement to close the doors. But I agree, that announcement is way too long.

This is de Blasio's way of addressing the homeless crisis, but hey New Yorkers voted for "progressive policies", so now they're getting them

I know a lot of progressives, and all of them hate de Blasio because like you said, his administration is a failure. No one likes de Blasio, and it's not about their ideology either.

They managed to make a slight error with the routing. They have the M60 turning off of the RFK bridge to 21st street and then run down Astoria Blvd when that routing is impossible unless bus operators are driving GTA style off the bridge lol.

I don’t know why they couldn’t choose to make the M60 red that way it has its own unique color along with the rest of the routes in the LGA/ East Elmhurst area.

Lol. Trying to predict his actions? 😂

Considering his status as a lame-duck now, I don't think I can predict the man. Could be he throws his fists in his air and says "actually, I don't care about helping anyone anymore." But hopefully that's an exaggeration.

Whatever he does, he will likely make a point about how he should've been elected instead of Biden lmao

In terms of getting justice, perhaps if this guy is locked permanently in a psychiatric facility, and can be required to get significant treatment, with the consequence of never being allowed to leave, and gets to the point where he is clear-headed enough to feel remorse and apologize to the family--perhaps that will be true justice and bring closure to the family. Just my thoughts on this complicated, emotion-laden topic, for which there is no "right" answer.

I don't know, considering the possibility of severe mental conditions, I'm not sure if the family would accept such an apology even if he is level-headed... after all, what's done is done. But also, I don't necessarily think that the family wants justice by killing the guy, either, like some of the militant-minded on here do. If we're going to talk ethics, the only way justice could be served is if we had structural, governmental reform--a system designed to keep checks on the mentally insane, homeless, etc. I'm not saying that the government was responsible for causing the scenario, but you have to acknowledge that the situation would've been way different if the guy was in a psychiatric facility instead of at a subway station causing chaos. The "liberal-minded" narrative shouldn't be to excuse people of crimes, but rather to make sure that the crimes don't happen in the first place.

I do wonder how useful a single borough express route would do if for example you had a route going from Rosedale to maybe Long Island City for example. It would perform like a regular express route where it would only pick up people in Rosedale, Springfield Gardens and South Jamaica, then it would run nonstop and would allow drop offs & pick ups at let’s say the Rego Park, Woodhaven & Grand Ave and then run non stop till Long Island city where it would only drop off people. The ultimate goal of the routes would be to connect neighbors from far away to popular shopping districts and etc because not everyone goes to Manhattan. I’m not saying that a Rosedale to Long Island city express route would work but instead I was just presenting a general idea that the MTA should consider testing ideas out.

At that point, you might as well extend it to Manhattan... though I don't see why anyone would take that route over the LIRR.

They should have put a list of service reductions on the table so that our friends in DC can have additional pressure heaped on their heads.

Riders Alliance already tried to do that. I promise you that it won't make a difference at all--the regions in which these systems are run are mostly D, and if not, then it's likely that they have a R rep that just drives around and doesn't care about transit. It's (mostly) a partisan issue, whether there's lobbyists involved or not.

And what the hell does he know?

Exactly. Biden just wanted to give his good friend Pete some fancy seat cuz he endorsed him. And you're right... what does he know? Because the only experience that I know he has in transit is getting someone killed by removing a traffic stop. Granted, in that regard, you could argue Trottenberg from the DOT is way worse. I'm guessing he will just focus on investing in infrastructure or something, considering that was part of his platform, but as for understanding commuters and the country's various transit systems... I don't see it.

So what there's a pandemic? It's not the Spanish Flu. It's something we know can be kept at bay with proper distance, basic hygiene, mask wearing, and proper ventilation. Not something Kawasaki and it's suppliers shouldn't be able to easily handle. Remember, it only got so far because of ignorance on a macro scale.  Based off that, and other current events, one could infer that the delay wouldn't have been more than six to ten months.

Which is why I ask why one would think the delay would be years.

It was an initial reaction, but now I get how they would be able to do it sooner, dw.

Obviously we know a lot more about the pandemic now. But here on the forums, it's either you're not allowed to be eager for a delivery, or it seems like you're assuming the worst. Sigh...

    ......Why?

IDK, maybe because of the pandemic?

Depending on how young some of these whippersnappers are, the recent R179 delivery might've been one of the only orders that came out while they were paying attention.

It has been a decade since the last R160s entered service.

    What are you even saying?
