  1. That will be a big problem. Life is short man, and we all need work/life balance. If I need to do brutal OT in order to make 100K then I must put everything on a scale. Yes, the pension is good, but with all the OT you barely have time to do nothing else than working and devoting your life to NYCT. What about time for you to invest in you and your family, how do you grow your money if all you got is time to work? How does it work? How long does it take for you to apply for promotions or department transfers? How hard would it be for anyone to go from C/R to IT? Is there an exam to go directly into IT? Would it be less convenient as far as transferring pay scale for C/R to IT? Maybe someone has some input.
  2. I work in IT for a bank and I understand why you would leave the job. Pay scales are different for you and I at this very moment and that's why I would need more insight before making such a move. Thank you for the input though. I do appreciate it.
  3. It has been a long road and finally they called today (left voicemail) and also received the "MTA NYCT Conductor Canvas Letter/Appointment Ticket" email. My list number is in the 33XX and I never thought the day would come. I want to ask for your advice as I really took matters into my own hands and made moves that have placed me in a position that has me considering my options (funny thing is that 5-6 years I basically had no options when I decided to take the exam). To make it short, I want to know what do you guys think based on the fact that I went to school and got my bachelor in computer science (2019 Grad). I am currently at 42 dollars an hour on a Mon-Fri (9-5) while still growing in my field. However, not sure if taking advantage of this opportunity would open a path for me to go into IT for NYCT and potentially finding a better salary there after paying my dues and stepping up the ladder in upcoming years. I humbly thank any good input as I am giving it serious thought and need to know how to tackle this important moment. Good luck to everyone out there and wish you all get the call.
  4. I know, but MTA also has IT and if the benefits and salary is a good mix I might as well enter the system as a train operator. I have not looked for potential exams for IT positions in MTA. Anyone?
  5. I have a question. I am in the 33xx and received a phone call last week letting me know I am in the outstanding certification list. The call provided info such as original eligibles: 3156, last eligible certified: 3153, and last eligible appointed: 1041. As you all may know it's been almost 3 years since we all took this exam and I put it aside (not think about it too much) and decided to go back to school and chase a degree. I graduate this May with a bachelor in computer science and have started to interview with different potential employers. My question is given I get a shot as an operator what would be the chances and potential opportunities to move within the system to a potential IT job? Would it make sense given the benefits? Going through the pain of being a rookie would not be an issue if salary, benefits, and pension make sense. I know it may take maybe 2 more years to get to my list number, but I would like to know my potential options. Thank you in advance for your input.
