For New Yorkers, the $16 one-way fare includes shuttle bus transportation in Manhattan to NY Waterway’s West 39th Street ferry terminal, a ferry ride and bus transportation from the Port Imperial ferry terminal to American Dream.

For New Jersey shoppers, they can take an NY Waterway shuttle bus from Port Imperial to and from American Dream for a $7 one-way fare.

I wonder what the price for the 355 is going to be.

NJ Transit’s new 355 express bus to American Dream retail and entertainment complex will cost adults a $9 fare in each direction or $18 round trip, said Jim Smith, a spokesman. Football fans who ride the 351 Coach USA bus between New York and MetLife Stadium pay a $14 round trip fare for the same 20-minute trip.

Good luck to coalition if they think NJ Transit would make the fare structure on flat fare. Ain't gonna happen since it's a state operated system and not a city or municipal transit agency. As far as tap and go, did NJT had that pilot program in Jersey City's Greenville Garage of Buses where they have that tap device next to the driver and farebox? I think it's a trans-hudson like tap and go..I could be wrong

They could make it flatter by making the zones larger.

Of course it makes sense that a bus going from NYC to Lakewood costs more than a bus from Metuchen to Edison.

But maybe a bus that only runs in Newark should only be one zone instead of two or three?

Combining zones 1 and 2 into a $2 flat fare would be an easy start.

    Something random I always wondered.

Does anybody remember back in 2005 when NJ Transit decided to extend the 1 service (with limited service) to start/end at the Hilton Garage via Ivy Hill? All trips would still end at either 20th street or Ivy Hill with most trips continuing after Ivy Hill to the Garage.

The thought always came to me from time to time wondering what was that all about because that extended service only lasted a few short months. Not sure if it was because of low ridership or something else instead.

Here's a schedule from the wayback machine from 2005 of the 1 showing the service - https://web.archive.org/web/20050512114732/http://www.njtransit.com/pdf/bus/T0001.pdf

    I love this schedule.

It shows Im not crazy! In 2005, the X service was indeed a good amount faster than local service.

    IE:

X departs Penn at 4:00 and arrives in Ivy Hill at 4:28

1 departs Penn at 4:02 and arrivs in Ivy Hill at 4:36

    Today it's the opposite!

The current schedule also shows shorter trip times, even thought traffic has gotten worse (and the buses can never meet the scheduled times)

IE, look at the last trip on Sunday am.

    2005:

Leave JC at 3:18am, arrive in Ivy Hill at 4:20am

    2019:

Leave JC at 3:18am arrive at Ivy Hill at 4:14am

They both don't have the exact same routes between Newark-Penn & Ivy Hill & quite honestly, dwell times at stops (and traffic) along Springfield (which the #361 spends more time on) can easily put a damper on the route...

I don't see a problem here.... Your overly simplistic view on the matter isn't proof of some inaccuracy.

Don't you think it's odd to offer an express service that takes longer than the local? You don't see anything wrong with this?

While the 361 does spend more time on Springfield, it does so without stopping - hence the express. It also take a single right turn instead of two left and two right turns on the regular route.

I have ridden both routes and the 361 is always faster. Do you have any experience on the route that says otherwise?

I'm not exactly understanding what outcome you're desiring by pointing this out (to NJT).....

Do you want #361's to be given less time to reach Ivy Hill, or do you want #1's to be given more time to reach Ivy Hill?

....or do you think what's posted on the schedule is some sort of typo or something?

I want the schedule to be accurate. That should be the purpose of the schedule, right?

I don't know if its a typo but I do know that the express is (obviously) faster than the local and should be listed as such.

  7. I recently found this forum, and thought I'd raise an issue I've observed.

Bus 361 is the express version of the 1. They are listed on the same timetable.

It is express because it skips all the stops on the first half of the route, and takes a more direct path towards Ivy Hill.

Having taken both buses, I can confirm that the 361 is faster than the 1.

And yet the schedule shows it being slower!

    https://www.njtransit.com/pdf/bus/T0001.pdf

    Example (Towards Ivy Hill, weekday)

361 leaves Penn at 3:40pm, arrives at Ivy Hill at 4:14pm

1 leaves Penn at 3:42pm, arrives at Ivy Hill at 4:08pm

According to this, the local takes 8 minutes longer!

361 leaves Penn at 4:00pm, arrives at Ivy Hill at 4:34pm

1 leaves Penn at 4:03pm, arrives at Ivy Hill at 4:29pm

Again the 361 is listed as 8 minutes longer.

This repeats throughout the schedule. I emailed NJT and they said they'd look into it. Nothing changed.
